Thanks so much, everyone. I'm really thinking about how I want things to be arranged as I get ready to put things back together. I realized at some point that I did not need to have things the way they currently are, and in fact that that is not really good for my workflow. I have quite a few storage folders, etc., so I am going to use those to reorganize some of the stuff I'm currently into. We've done a lot of traveling in the last 3 years, so I find myself doing a lot of that kind of scrapbooking. I have A LOT of travel themed/travel related stuff, so I thought about that and decided to put it all in an Iris case or two. I have quite a few empty ones. I'll separate it out by style within the case. I might even need two of them.
Then another thing I find myself reaching for quite often is either Vicki Boutin or 49 & Market stuff. I just really like both of those. I'll also reach for Pinkfresh Studio. So for now, I think I will corral those things, probably by collection-ish. I'll keep that stuff close by for now. Normally I am more color-driven than anything, so I'll keep the color trays I currently have. Those are in one of those photos--the horizontal trays in the black Kallax.
I'm going to rework my immediate work area so that the things I want to use/like to use are close by. For example, I use a lot of cardstock, though mostly just white/cream/kraft/black. That forms the base of a lot of my stuff, and it's been the case for a very long time.I want to just reach behind me on the cardstock paper trays that are in one of those Kallax cubes and grab what I want.
I am also a cardmaker/stamper/papercrafter, and I do other things sometimes. But those are usually defined projects, so I think I will move all of that type of thing so that it is not close by. I also think not being physically blocked by my desk to get to the other things in my studio will be helpful. I'm hoping not to have to buy much in the way of storage stuff, though I have been watching Lauren Hinds (Craft Some Joy) and I think her setup with the 16x16 Michaels cubes is great. I'm probably going to incorporate some of that collection when we redo the remaining closet area eventually. I didn't even know it existed until I saw her craft room tour this past week.
I'm still planning to destash some more stuff, but for now I think I'm at a reasonable place to put the room back together. It's been interesting to ponder the thought process, and learn how others approach it as well. I don't actually have very many regrets about things I have acquired, which is due in large part to the fact that I've literally been scrapbooking in the 'modern' way for 30 years now. That's a very long-term hobby, so it's okay to have a lot of stuff. But a little LESS stuff is also okay....

Yes! This is how I feel, too. I don't mind having a room full of supplies, but I want to be able to easily access my supplies. And really, there are some products, I'm just not going to use that need to go. I can't get to a clear out / reset until this summer, but you've inspired me, wordfish !

That’s a lot to leave your space! I think you’re going to be so glad you rethought how you have the room set-up and are working it for your current style of crafting/scrapbooking. Take your time and maybe consider setting up part of it, doing a project using those supplies to see if you need to make adjustments. Then go on to another area. Especially since it sounds like it will be a complete change in set-up for you. I’m having to do the same right now, and my space options are no where close to yours! Can’t wait to see it set-up.

I dropped it all off at the scrapbook store at lunchtime today. There was A TON of other stuff there already from other people. One lady looked at me carrying in one of the boxes (she had just done the same thing) and said something like "I CANNOT believe how much stuff we all have with this hobby."
I looked a little at some of the other stuff but the only thing that interested me was a wire paper rack. Honestly, I do not know why. I'm pretty sure I have at least one stored in the attic. There was one box full of what looked like 12x12 Tim Holtz pads. I do not have a 12x12 Tim Holtz pad and I do not want one, but a box full of them? That seemed sort of cool.
I think the sale is this weekend. Am I going? HELL NO I AM NOT. I think I have been to one of these, once or twice. Not my scene.
But if you are looking for stuff and are near the Knoxville area: Scrappin' in the City is where it's at! They will put all the stuff upstairs, and it will be a madhouse. The store is all downstairs. SITC is in an old house not far from downtown. It's a great store.

I'm thinking about putting it on the list. Sara is truly awesome, can't say enough good things about her as a business owner and a person.

I'm back on a Sunday morning. It's a crunch-time period currently at work, so I needed to work a bit yesterday morning and likely will check in a bit today. That leaves less time for these organizing shenanigans. This upcoming week is the crescendo and I am hoping after this, things will return to just normal bedlam I'm headed upstairs in a bit to get things to a state where I can move my desk. Not sure how much more mess that is going to make, but if I can clear out the rest of the "floor piles" and get the desk set up in its new orientation and cleared off (clearing off will be necessary to move it), I'm going to call that success. I definitely had no desire to visit the yard sale, which ends today, but I did place a large Ali Edwards order with my April "fun money" budget...and some of my May budget. Oops!

Thanks, dewryce!
The scrapbook store owner posted an update video yesterday. The sale was supposed to be over but they are extending it by one day. She said this is by far the most massive yard sale they have ever had, in terms of stuff and shoppers and sales, and that shoppers yesterday had to wait up to an hour to get up there to shop. That's awesome that it went so well.

I am back up in the Scrap Attic for the weekend, soaking up the magical light at the moment. The scrapbook yard sale is done and dusted, and whatever of mine that people didn't pick up at the sale has been donated by the store. I stopped by Wednesday afternoon to pick up my gift card--it was a few cents shy of $200! That was a lovely surprise. I bought just a few things (using the GC, of course), less than $20. I always feel rude if I don't buy something when I'm there. I saw the 49 & Market Kaleidoscope while I was there but I didn't get any of it--very, very pretty, though!
The Ali Edwards stuff I bought came in. I got the mystery boxes and people wanted to see what came in them, so I have to separate that out from the other stuff and then I will take photos for them (they just put it all together in one large box). The good news: I have a fairly clear desktop to do that on! Still thinking through my plan on how I am going to move stuff around to make it function best for me.

Just a weekend accountability update. I made some great headway this weekend. Still more to do, but I'm finally at the point where I can actually see progress, and the piles of things I need to sort through seem to be finite, which really feels great. My plan is to get things to a point I can live with before the final touches for what has turned into a complete reorganization. I'm moving things in nearly every area in order to get what I use most often within reach of my main desk area. It's required a lot of thought.
Then, I think I might be a few months from redoing the last closet in the space--once that's done, the room will be at a finished state, probably for a long time. Redoing the closet will add a large work surface plus two or three six-foot shelves. I'm also going to get some of those Michael's 16x16 cubes, probably 8, and that will finish things up and give me tons more functionality.
My AC is getting replaced in a few weeks, so I should not have a lapse in using the space up here. Very excited about that. I'm also going to work up here next weekend for that scrappy organizing weekend thing that is going on, and then I will get set up for WITL week after this week. I'm really feeling so excited and motivated to scrapbook in a way I haven't for at least 3 years. YAY!

Hi! I'm not remotely done yet but I'm finishing up this first phase. If you remember last month when I first posted, I mentioned how horrified I was at the state of the studio. I took photos that day and even a video. I'm going to post one before photo and then some after photos. The before photo is straight out of a Hoarders episode, yikes. But anyway, look! BEFORE: I took this the day I first posted. It was so so bad IMG_2490 by Seanna., on Flickr PHOTOS FROM TODAY: I still have a way to go but things are basically under control in this room. I did move a bunch of stuff to the guest room to finish sorting, but I have a plan for that and I also have to wait for the HVAC guys to get in and replace the HVAC unit up here, which is hard to get to and I need to make sure everything they need is all set. They are coming May 1st. This is basically the same view IMG_2690 by Seanna., on Flickr IMG_2691 by Seanna., on Flickr BONUS SHOT: This is the cloffice that we built at the beginning of the pandemic. Prior to doing that, it was a true Monica Closet (Friends reference) with double doors that STAYED CLOSED. (You can see the closed closet doors in the photos on my original post!) We took care of that in 2020. To the left of this cloffice is an identical closet space. We'll do the same basic thing to that space and it will give me another work surface and will be a cutting/die cutting area, most likely. It's going to be awesome but we may not start until fall because I have a situation this summer (I started another thread about that particular thing...things). IMG_2687 by Seanna., on Flickr

I'm working through some of my own reorganizing and this is very inspiring! I'm glad to hear that; thanks for letting me know it inspired you. I do feel a pretty big sense of relief. Other than moving/preparing to move/setting up after a move, I don't think my studio space has ever been that awful. So much of the stuff in the before photo was not even stuff that belongs up there and it was pretty daunting to go through it. Thanks for all the kind words, everyone. I'll probably spend some of my upcoming weekends for a while finishing things up in anticipation of the cloffice conversion and new storage we'll be bringing in (shelves and probably about a dozen Michaels Simply Tidy cubes), but I can definitely get back to work scrapbooking and paper crafting as well. My desk area and all the surfaces are back in shape, though I didn't get a photo of that. The AC guys are coming next Wednesday to replace the upstairs HVAC, so I should have uninterrupted use of the space. I remembered over the weekend that we shampooed the carpet up there less than a year ago, and obviously everything was in much better shape then to be able to do that and actually GET to the carpet to shampoo it, so I should be good for a while there. Big relief!

Hi! I pulled the trigger on new Michaels cubes and completely redid my desk. In the background of the first photo, you can see my old Ikea sawhorses. I used those for almost 20 years, with either a painted plain door, or a painted piece of wood, as my work surface. IMG_3847 by Seanna., on Flickr Don't mind the red boxes. I need to reconfigure my cord situation and I threw them over there to hold the outlet thing. I'll redo that closet to make it look more like the one in the previous photos but for now, there it is. IMG_3852 by Seanna., on Flickr View from the back, still have a bit of a cord situation but it's much better than when I started. I have this storage all planned out--most of what is there is temporary. IMG_3851 by Seanna., on Flickr

Thanks! We still need to adjust it as it's a little wonky, and I need another extension cord or something to better manage the cord situation, but I think I'm just about at the "micro organization" stage! I'm very excited to have that white/cream/kraft cardstock right there. I use one or more of those almost every time I make a layout. The bottom slot is for black, just haven't added it yet.

Your desk looks really nice. Amazon has a cord organizer that might work for you. It has slots in the sides to feed the cords through and keeps cords looking neater.
I'd link but I'd have to sign out of my account and that's a pain 😆

I know a few people are following this thread as it morphed into an apparently full studio reorg, so I thought I would update. I'll send through some photos a little later, but I've moved my Kallax unit, gotten some new organization products in, more-or-less figured out the cord mess, and now I'm ready to tear everything out of the closet pictured a few posts above. I ordered paint this week--I had to look it up because it's been so long since we did the other "cloffice," but it's Benjamin Moore Gentleman's Gray. We picked it up yesterday afternoon, so I'm going to check to see if I have a mini roller and an angled paintbrush and get started soon. I'm sure the walls will need spackle, as everything is coming down from them--all the usual paint prep. I figured out a way to keep my old Ikea sawhorses in the room. I'm going to create another work surface under the windows at the far end of the room. If I can get some forward movement on the clearing and painting, I think it will inspire my husband to figure out how to get a desktop made for the new cloffice, as well as two shelves. That's all I really need at the moment to finish reloading and get moving on the micro-organizing: One desktop, two long shelves (like the photo above of my studio office space).
