Thanks! I have the closet half unloaded but my husband brought back a fancy coffee from the coffee shop AND a tape measure, so he is now off to get the stuff for the desktop and the shelves. I'm drinking the coffee and then I'm going to finish unloading and vacuum. I think this may really get completed this weekend! We also need a mini paint roller and some spackle so he is getting that too, but I'm hoping to at least get the walls painted today and maybe the shelves if we have to get wood ones that are not premade.

I'm so excited. Closet is empty and my husband is currently pulling out old nails and stuff that were still there and spackling. This is happening!! (Also, please note how brilliant the previous homeowner was by having an outlet installed in the closet.) IMG_3979 by Seanna., on Flickr

We are in the process of turning an empty closet off the kitchen into a wine closet that has a wine fridge in it. DH was so pleasantly surprised that the previous owners already added an outlet. All we had to do is put the fridge in and plug it in. We are finishing up the wood shelves and wallpaper for it this coming week and I am so excited!

Dun dun dun...no turning back now! Holes patched and sanded, walls washed and dried. . First coat. It will probably only need two coats total. I need to clean up the drips on the plastic before I get up close and personal to paint the bottom with my angled brush. IMG_3989 by Seanna., on Flickr My husband is out trying to acquire the boards for the desktop and two shelves we'll be installing. I will probably want at least one more small shelf on the inside left wall of the closet, but we can add that later.

I forgot to mention, there was a mishap where my husband tripped on the stairs and fell down most of them. Poor guy! He is sore today but okay. He seems to have ridden down on his backside mainly. OUCH. I wanted to take him to the ED last night but he refused. He is definitely feeling it today and apparently hit his ribs and the back of his leg.

Well, we need to touch up the paint and the desktop is still being stained and finished, but it's just about ready to be loaded with stuff! I have an Ikea pegboard to hang right above the desktop and I think I want one or two shelves on the left inside wall of the closet (or maybe the right, or both), but I'm feeling pretty good about the progress. I may move the cubes on the right to face inward to mirror the other side but I think functionally this is the best arrangement. IMG_3993 by Seanna., on Flickr

Congratulations on your new space. The rich color, the wooden desk top, the lamp - it all works beautifully.

Hi, scrappy people!
I have thought so many times of this thread and also about those of you who have been kind enough to read and/or comment on it--thank you for all of that support.
I'm back after what was apparently my "summer hiatus" to try to finish up the last parts of this project. Do I need the accountability of this thread? Yes, apparently I do. Even if I am the only one who posts and reads (my own posts heh), that is probably enough to get me kickstarted. If you are here and reading, along for the ride--hi! I hope you don't struggle as much as I do with this stuff, but if you do, we are kindred spirits.
I've posted elsewhere about my big distraction, which is that my daughter was expecting triplets. My husband and I were both so freaked out about that because my daughter is an identical twin and there was a lot of medical stuff that went awry when she and her sister were born. I'm extremely happy and relieved to report that the babies are here and doing GREAT. My husband and I got back last week from helping out--my husband was there over a month and I was there about 2.5 weeks. Everybody is doing great, though there were some scary moments. All good now. Whew.
Anyway, when things started getting intense with my daughter's health, I really couldn't concentrate/focus on this project, plus there were a lot of preparations and other plans/activities I needed to focus on to try to help out and ultimately get to San Diego to be there for my family (I'm in Knoxville). I realized pretty quickly in early June that I needed to set this project aside until after things resolved, so my plan has been to jump back in toward the end of summer/maybe after Labor Day, and here I am.
So the photos above with the converted closet: I have used that sucker extensively and it is working GREAT. I used the Cricut that I set up on the work surface and created all sorts of banners and other things for baby showers (not just my daughter's). The pegboard has stuff on it now, and I'm really pleased with this area's looks and functionality. Two enthusiastic thumbs up--works just as I hoped it would.
My to-do list:
1. Set up a new station by the windows. This station is going to be for paper crafting activities that are more cardmaking oriented. I think I have a piece of wood to use as a desktop, and I have a bunch of cubes left over from making the closet conversion above, so I don't need to buy anything to make it happen--it's just a matter of hauling stuff out and moving stuff around now. So that is one step.
2. Then after that, I need to get into the bedroom that is up there and finish sorting all the crap I threw in there while I was waiting for things to hold what I am keeping. I do have all that in place now, lots of empty spots, so it's time to finish that up. Have I been procrastinating on that? Oh, hell yes.
3. Then I want to refine my stations that are not really set up well yet, one of those being the sewing machine station. I have been watching Mercy Tiara's videos and was super inspired by one she did yesterday, which was a livestream vid where she created a few layouts with her latest kit (might be just a patreon thing for now but I think she makes them public on YT after a while so go check them out if you're interested--they may be on the livestream tab). She has a kit club now in case you are looking for a new kit club. I'm absolutely loving everything associated with that, though I have been a Mercy Tiara fan for many, many years. This current vibe reminds me of the best of the "Scraptastic" days. Good stuff. Anyway, she used her sewing machine on something yesterday and I was like I AM DOING THIS. But I have to set up the sewing machine I bought years ago but have yet to use. So far its only use has been to sew scout patches when my daughter's boyfriend borrowed it for his son's scout uniforms.
4. After that, I will be looking to upgrade my oversized old brown chair, probably for a loveseat that can convert into a sleeper.
Then I think I will call it done for a while.

Congratulations wordfish on the triplet grandbabies! How exciting (and nerve wracking). I'm glad all went well. Good luck finishing up that to-do list - I hope you'll continue to share photos of your progress

Congratulations on the triplet grandchildren, wordfish! I love reading about your room updates. Mine is still a work in progress. Nothing as dramatic as triplets, but I've had distractions, too. Next weekend is a 3 day weekend for me, and I hope to at least build the two bookcases and put them in place. Your space looks great!

Congratulations wordfish! That is 100% a valid reason to leave any project behind - your daughter and those babies need you way more than a room. But also kudos to you for getting back to it! I've been enjoying watching your headway. My DH is an identical twin. It runs thru the girls back through many generations. For example, DH's grandfather was a triplet, and he only had singletons, a boy and a girl. The boy had 3 singletons, the girl had the twins (and was afraid to have any more, so adopted ). Now those boy twins had 5 singletons between them, but we wonder if the girls we've produced will have twins.

You probably already know this but it's fraternal twins/multiples that run in families and yes- it'll run through the girls because what is inherited is the tendency to ovulate more than one egg in a cycle (which if they both get fertilised will equal fraternal twins). Identicals are random chance.
