I'm delighted. I 'm worried. I'm freaking out. I'm sort of having PTSD a little bit, as is my husband. It's still a secret on social media but since it is going to be announced this week and I figure nobody here knows the players, it's probably okay to talk about it.
My daughter, who is a twin, is a Lieutenant Commander in the Navy. She has been married for 10 years. She is stationed in California. She and her husband decided to start a family late last year. My husband and I were told that she is pregnant back in late January in the cutest way: She had her two sisters go to the scrapbook store near my house and buy a bunch of baby stuff, then bring it over while she and her husband were on FaceTime watching my reaction. So that is awesome news, what a delight and blessing.
She went for her first OB appointment week before last. Her husband came with her, which was a good thing because:
MY DAUGHTER IS HAVING TRIPLETS.
T-R-I-P-L-E-T-S.
Not that it really matters, but this was completely spontaneous, no fertility treatments of any kind.
So she is at 12 weeks tomorrow, everything going well so far.
But her dad and I, while delighted and kind of cackling about the whole thing, are SO SO worried. When I was pregnant with her and her sister, there were so many complications, and it was so high-risk and honestly traumatic. Everything turned out reasonably okay and here we all are, but it's hard not to be just so worried.
She is doing very well and trying to do what she can now, while it's still possible. They have told her that she will be fortunate to make it to 32 weeks, so they are looking at mid-late July if that's the case.
Anyway, triplets. TRIPLETS. I thought twins were a lot. I am very careful what I tell her, as it's already overwhelming for her, but there's a lot she honestly doesn't know/realize. Example: Last week she had a headache that wasn't going away with Tylenol, so she called me to ask what to do. I suggested increasing her caffeine a little but also calling her docs before she did anything. I was pretty sure they would have her come in. YUP. Labor and Delivery for monitoring. This shocked her. (And they did say to increase caffeine but also called in some meds for her.) I told her that she is not going to have the traditional 2024 Instagram pregnancy experience, though she can certainly have elements of it.

Congratulations! How exciting! And yes, also terrifying. She’ll have a unique experience for sure but she’ll be getting the best medical care. I hope it’s smooth and easy and she gets to enjoy it all without fear.

This is exciting and a bit scary all at the same time. Preemie mom here to remind you that medicine has come so far and the triplets have a very good chance at being just fine. They might be early, as many multiples are, but they will thrive and you're going to be a rockin' grandma.
I'm so happy for you. Woohoo!

Congratulations. I hope she has a smooth and healthy pregnancy. How fun for you all! I am sure you are worried, understandably, but know that medical science has come a long way since you had her. Tell her to keep in contact with her doctor and not to be afraid to call them if she has any questions or concerns.

If your baby is having babies, there's been a lot of medical advancements, That doesn't mean you won't or shouldn't worry. but medicine just gains in leaps and bounds and I am sure her dr. will give her great advice. I hope all goes well with your daughter. Triplets would be so exciting! Congrats!

Well, sounds similar to me as you know--my mom is an identical twin, miscarried her multiples, my sister has twins, and we have many more in the family. Then I spontaneously got pregnant with identical triplets. I didn't find out until 15 weeks though. I got pregnant in January also, full-term due date was October but delivered Sept. 1st at 33 1/2 weeks. I was put on complete bedrest at 20 weeks, could only get out of bed to potty and shower every other day. Hubby packed snacks for me to keep by the bed while he was at work. I am now 4' 11" but was 5' even and 110 lbs. when I got pregnant with them.
Congrats to them. Can't believe my girls will be 30 this year. It goes by fast so enjoy EVERY moment with them. Lots of fun ahead!

What an exciting surprise! Congratulations to your daughter and family! I am wishing her a safe and healthy pregnancy and 3 healthy babies.
And yes, the board here is a good place for you to post your hopes, fears, frustrations, joys, etc. without burdening your DD or inundating her with too much info. I think you will be an awesome grandma - congrats to you too!

Congratulations--how exciting.
I have no first hand experience, but I think it would be a good idea to line up a couple of people to help in the first 2-3 months. Feeding multiple babies as well as changing multiple babies will require lots of juggling of the time...or so it seems to me....all the while running a household.

I worked with a gal who had triplets. She was on bedrest for about half of her pregnancy and she carried them to term. They were all over 8 lbs. None of them required a NICU stay.
Congratulations to your daughter and the whole family. Very excited and scary all at the same time!
