I can see the difference between the two in the text below, but not in the other examples in this thread.
The lowercase version can be written in two forms: the double-storey ⟨a⟩ and single-storey ⟨ɑ⟩. The latter is commonly used in handwriting and fonts based on it, especially fonts intended to be read by children, and is also found in italic type.

If you are still confused, here is a font with a single story "a": fonts.adobe.com/fonts/futura-ptLook at the sample sentence to see it - The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog. Thank you! I was going crazy trying to figure out what I was missing! (On my phone….) I actually mix and mingle them in the same sentence in my handwriting. Even add in A shaped (pointy top and dash across the center) little A’s for extra fun. I think it varies based on the word. I also slant the wrong way. So definitely an Oprah here.
