Lot of people I follow on Instagram now use story instead of posting in their feed. And I hate that they use very small font or a color that blends in with the background. It might be my old eyes, but it is not easy to read the text. You can’t enlarge the image on a story like you can on your feed. I sometimes have to take a snapshot of the story and enlarge the photo I took to read what they wrote. And some people put a whole novel on their story. I try to make sure my text is easy to read when I post a story, and I keep the text short and to the point. Old people, old eyes vent.

I almost never look at the Instagram stories. I go through my feed every day. I prefer to go through at my own pace.
My biggest complaint about Facebook - and there are so many - is that you feed shows the most popular posts on top rather than the most recent. You can change that but as far as I know you still have to do it every time. It can't be the default.
I finally found a workaround. I ignore my feed and click in the search. It shows the most recent searches and who has a new post. That was perfect until they added not just who has a new post but who has reactions to their posts. I couldn't care less about other people's reactions.

I don't look at stories on Instagram or Facebook. I feel like if you really want me to see it, you'll put it on your wall. They go by too fast for me. So I just don't even bother anymore.

I don’t post a lot of stories, but when I do it is usually something silly or funny that just happened and it is not something I want on my permanent feed. And I like adding the silly graphics to go along with the photo. But some people will post like 20 stories a day! Ugh! That’s another vent!

Posting to stories instead of the feed doesn’t really bother me all that much, but it needs a pause button. And I don’t like the videos where the photos switch almost instantly.

Ugh, Stories! Why? I simply don't understand why you'd post something that's going to disappear in 24 hours. If it's important enough to post at all, why not just put it on your feed? I've never posted a story, and I doubt I ever will. But my kids do it all the time. I'm obviously just old.
I'm going to ask my daughter why she would choose a Story over a normal post, and report back.....

From an old lady’s perspective - it’s temporary, it is a snapshot of a moment in your life (nothing that needs to be permanent), it is easy to post stories, you can add cute graphics, you can add music, and you can see who looked at it. I don’t add a lot of stories, but it is usually for something silly and fleeting. ETA - Many people I follow will post political/humanitarian/news type stories. I wish there was a way to know what the type of story it is before I open it.

I don't view the stories.
Disclaimer: Everyone has their own time frames and frequency, in regards to how often they post.
I follow, several mixed media artist, influencers type people, scrapbookers, etc... in their beginning stages, they were all about "create a social media following" ad nauseam....tell everyone, follow me, create a following, etc.... they posted all the time, every day, etc... then once their following numbers were high....they rarely post anymore.
In general...not a vent, just annoying.....they lure you(a general you) in....then nothing for weeks or months. Especially if it's someone with good advice or good ideas.

When I asked someone. They said they post to stories the things they don't want saved on their feed. It only stays in stories for 24 hours.

I talk live on it in the mornings some days... get a lot of back and forth from viewers/friends. I post clips of my daughters lacrosse games, funny reels that make me laugh, what I am eating, my daily mileage calendar... things I do NOT want to save on my feed. My main feed is mostly for nice pics of my kids I want saved, my selfies and my workout reels.

So as somebody who mostly uses it for my business - I get more engagement on a story than on a post. And the clients I’m trying to target are mostly looking at stories and not the feed.
And any training/coaching I’ve done has all said I need to do more video and more stories….
It’s a work in progress lol!

You're not wrong. I have several influencers I follow and one specifically has such small text. I have to take screenshots sometimes to read it.

It’s almost all she ever posts. She doesn’t want her entire feed to be nothing but daily workouts, but she does put them in stories so those that care can see them. Competition videos get posted to he feed, though.

Ugg, I thought it was just me. That tiny white font on a light background. Pausing it doesn't help, I already wear glasses. I enjoy stories but if you think words are wrecking your astheic (that's an annoying buzz word) then do a post with words in the description or a voice over.

Lately, influencers are hinting at interesting content like tips for organizing, where to shop, how to start xyz but instead of including the tips in the reel or caption, they ask you to post a trigger word in the comments and get sent a link to your DMs. I don't mind when they say shopping links are on LikeToKnow since they can't share links in the caption but this comment LINK thing annoys me.

I don’t like Stories (or Reels because of music suddenly blasting out of my phone). I don’t think to check on Stories, and don’t check Instagram constantly so I miss stuff…

I like sending out little pics of soccer games and lunch and so forth, but I don’t need them to live on my grid, and I don’t want to make an actual post three or for times in a day. My only peeve is “watch to the end” videos. If it isn’t interesting at the beginning, I am scrolling. You’re not the boss of me!

Annoys the heck out of me, but it isn't going away anytime soon. An influencer I have followed for a few years has started a weekly newsletter and had a good explanation of why we are seeing all those annoying "Link", "Comment", "Message Me" posts or run contests/giveaways. I've actually begun to unfollow accounts that post that way. Anyway, here are her comments: Posting to stories instead of the feed doesn’t really bother me all that much, but it needs a pause button. If you look at Instagram on your desktop in a browser, there actually is a pause button! Since I do 90+% of my viewing on my Mac it is very helpful. Look in the upper right hand of this screen shot.

I like stories. As others have said, they’re for posting little things that happen that don’t necessarily warrant a permanent place on your feed. Or reposting someone else’s post or story. Younger generations are often very careful about curating what’s on their IG feed to present a certain image. Stories are for the minutia of the day. They’re often the only way I see what my kids are up to. I don’t make any money off of social media so that’s not the issue.
