Despite thoughts by some, my son is definitely aware of what card he is using. I'm going to call the credit card company today to see if I can get a print out of what was purchased. The store name was Janette's Design. I don't see an actual physical store location which makes me question the purchase (when I Google it). They claim its a clothing store/general merchandise. Like I previously stated, the town is well over an hour away.
He pays his balance twice a month so no worries about not paying it. He paid it twice actually. The first time and the time it was reposted!

I had this happen once and I still don't understand how it happened.
It was for 4 Red Sox / Yankees tix, in NY. I think it came to $1,200.00
I got an e-mail from TicketMaster but I don't have a TM account and couldn't log in. Then the charge hit my CC. I called IMMEDIATELY. I explained that I didn't order these tickets then I explained about the e-mail. They went thru their fraud investigation and came back and it was determined not to be fraud. I appealed, spoke to the manager, etc and had it taken off the card and had the card cancelled. To this day, I still don't understand how it happened and half believed Sox tickets were going to show up in the mail.

I have had a few fraudulent charges taken off my credit card with no issues. I'm so sorry this happened to you. I know there are machines that criminals will insert fake card swipe devices and this is a common way they rip off card numbers. But how would this happen with a chip card? I don't understand how this could have happened. You have a right to be frustrated with this.

The first time and the time it was reposted! I’ve thought about this way more than I’d like to admit lol I’m not in any way to say that your son is oblivious. Is it possible he bought a shirt at a game? Or something at a craft fair or something where a vendor “janette’s design” travels and sets up food truck or booth at a place away from the listed city and your son bought something. I often buy veggies/fruit/flowers at a farm stand, and I know the name and city isn’t at all something I’d associate with buying from that place. Another pea mentioned Etsy. Anyway, good luck?

On the bench of there’s likely something you don’t know. Maybe your son knows or not, but if the chip was used and he didn’t lose the card, the physical card was in someone else’s possession and then usage generally falls under the cardholder’s responsibility unless they can prove they didn’t give permission (which usually means filing a police report). If the chip was used it had to be in the purchasers possession. Either he used it and forgot or someone he knows did. Our van got broken into on Vancouver Island last fall. ALL of the credit card charges were reversed but, we reported them all immediately (like less than one hour after the cards were used fraudulently).
