I love my 2022 BMW X5 45e which is a plug-in electric hybrid. We can use all electric power or use hybrid mode. We installed a 40 amp charger in our garage so it's convenient for us. We can get a full charge in around 5 hours. I can go about 32 miles on complete electric power on the freeway. Around town we keep it on hybrid mode and it uses mostly electric power. I only have to put gas in it maybe once every 6 weeks or so. I am grateful that you posted about your BMW X5. I currently drive a 2015 BMW X3 and am planning to replace it in the next 6 months. I am seriously considering a plug in Hybrid. How does it work when the electric power runs out? Does it automatically switch over to hybrid mode when the electric power runs down? I mostly drive around town put will take a 100 mile drive about once a month. Does it have Apple Car Play? It is a must have for me. My 2015 model does not. I can pair my iphone to it and play the audio over the car speakers, but it has an old display so I can't control the iphone or see the iphone screen on the display. The GPS is outdated; they told me that it would cost several hundred dollars to do a software update in order to update the GPS. My garage was wired to be able to install a charger. Is there anything else I need to think about?

Is there anything else I need to think about? I ordered my X5 45e during the time of auto shortages so I ordered it with exactly what I wanted. It has Apple CarPlay which if not standard is on most BMWs now. My software updates are free but that may be because the vehicle is still under warranty. I usually use the GPS on my phone using Apple CarPlay so I'm not sure about the BMW navigation system. When driving, if the electric power runs down it automatically shifts to hybrid mode. The current version of the X5 plug in hybrid is the 50e. It is the highest rated luxury plug-in hybrid SUV on Consumer Reports with a score of 88. The RAV4 Prime scores an 89 on the non-luxury list and is the only SUV to score higher than the X5. Check with your local dealer to see if they have any X5 50e's in inventory or if they have to be special ordered. When I ordered mine it took about 4 months to get it so if you're looking to replace your X3 in about 6 months you might need to start thinking about what you want now.
