Who’s watched?
Spoilers in thread
I literally watched the entire thing in one sitting. I couldn’t look away.
The typing “sent from my iphone” on each email absolutely sent me.
I did *not* expect the dark turn.
How do we feel about all the things -
Gadd saying he changed Martha, but then it turns out show Martha is almost identical to real life and she was immediately doxxed?
People harassing her IRL?
Gadd playing himself?

I haven't watched yet but will do very soon. Yes he does play himself and that was his real life experience but I don't know much more than that. Glad it grabbed you - looking forward to seeing even more now.

I had never heard of Gadd before, but the acting in the series is phenomenal.

I have no idea what this is about. Except, "Gadd" (but maybe it was spelled "Gad") and "Martha" were characters in the TV series "The Americans". lol

I've just watched the last episode and I have such mixed feelings. I found RG such a complicated, unlikeable person who I struggled to empathise with even though he was a victim of awful things.
It's such an uncomfortable watch but it was brilliantly done.

It really, really brought up some uncomfortable questions about how we think about who is a victim. ***SPOILERS*** I am still trying to work out my feelings about him going to the writer’s house when he knew what was happening and he kept going back. Or how he sort of wanted Martha to stalk him and then the fact that he slept with her. How do you reconcile that?

Yes! I was talking to my friend about it and we both agreed that he was hard to see as a victim because a lot of the time he was such a willing participant in what was happening. I hate that I think that though 🤔

Supposeldy, I heard he did not reveal her identity, but I KNEW the internet sleuths would dox her immediately.

He didn't, he was fantasising about her while having sex with his girlfriend.

I loved this show and binged it yesterday. He's a phenomenal actor and the story was just devastating. I hope he wins an award.

He didn't, he was fantasising about her while having sex with his girlfriend. Ok, I didn’t read it that way. I read it as he did it. I took it as he actually had sex with Martha and then he fantasized about it while subsequently having sex with his girlfriend.

I think the issue isn’t just a straight doxxing issue, though.
Like everything else with this show, it’s more complicated than that.
Gadd said he changed so many details about Martha that she wouldn’t be able to recognize herself, but that’s not true. He used her real middle name as the character’s name, cast someone who is a dead ringer for the real person, used real details about her, etc. to the point that it didn’t take any internet sleuthing to figure out who she was and then people didn’t dox her, she doxxed herself and seems to be I don’t know enjoying? encouraging? participating? in the ongoing doxxing.
It’s like watching season 2 happen live on the internet.

I'm not reading what is posted. I just found out about this from ABC's morning show. I don't want to read any spoilers.

He's a fabulous actor, I was floored to find out that he plays himself. Until I thought about why he's playing himself and why is he so good.
All in all I was left to wonder how much of this is actually true with unwilling participants, vs a great story where everyone knows exactly what they're doing.
I do really like shows and movies that have unlikable characters.
ETA I do want to add that the story is quite powerful and I didn't expect it to go there. I don't care if it's not true other than I don't like the idea of putting something out there and saying it's true when it's not. Like that book A Million Little Pieces by that lying liar that Oprah believed and had on her show. That book was full of holes that any skeptic should have seen through immediately.
This isn't on that level and it's so well done, I'm not equating the two--but I do have questions.

He has given the numbers of texts, emails, and phone calls in interviews. He has said that the biggest difference is that IRL she wasn’t charged with anything legally like she was in the show.

I wonder why they made that change in the show if she wasn't charged. That seems like a pretty important detail to change.

I never heard of it so I looked it up. The brief synopsis reminds me of the old movie "Fatal Attraction"

My husband spent an evening watching this show and thought it was great. When he resumed the next night he quit because he couldn’t take it. He has pretty high tolerance for uncomfortable tv. He probably should have binged the whole thing in an evening.

I wouldn't compare it to Fatal Attraction or Misery although it has elements of both in an unhinged woman. It's very unique and probably one of the best shows I've seen in a long time.

How do we feel about all the things - Gadd saying he changed Martha, but then it turns out show Martha is almost identical to real life and she was immediately doxxed? People harassing her IRL? Gadd playing himself? I watched. Then I went on Reddit and apparently the real Martha (her name is Fiona Harvey) will be interviewed by Piers Morgan... www.reddit.com/r/BabyReindeerTVSeries/comments/1cn5ow3/so_this_should_be_interesting/but some of the responses made me LOL like these: I've just watched the last episode and I have such mixed feelings. I found RG such a complicated, unlikeable person who I struggled to empathise with even though he was a victim of awful things.

I also didn't care for Gadd - I do feel like he was trying to be kind and nice to Martha when she first arrived at the bar, but there were so many times he could have/should have put an end to it, esp when she ripped out Terri's hair or smashed his face with the glass (assuming those things really happened). I also wondered if he wrote BR knowing it was going to kick a hornet's nest and bring all that attention to her - I wonder if he missed that kind of attention (which he kind of admitted at the end when he was obsessed and cataloging all her phone calls). Also, his "comedy." Now, I think this took place in like 2014/2015? but holy hell, was that considered funny even back then? bc he was lucky as hell that his ex's mom gave him a place to live or he'd be out on the streets if he had to support himself with his routine....
