Yes, there was one through school that I remember nothing about and then there was an elderly lady I met while flying alone when I was 9. I think they sat me next to her because I was alone and she was the grandmotherly type. Her name was Mae. There was another old lady on her other side named May. Mae was a beautiful old lady with soft white hair and a smile. May was a sourpuss with stiff steely curls and bristly chin hairs.
I might have asked to be pen pals because we had one in school, I can't remember. Or it was her idea, IDK, but we exchanged addresses and I kept her up to date after I got home. But she suddenly stopped writing and I didn't know what ever happened to her, besides maybe she died. I forgot both their last names. She and the other May were both in their 80s, I remember that.
May kept trying to talk to Mae and ignore/dismiss me and I didn't like her, that much I definitely remember!

My 5th grade teacher had an identical twin sister who taught 5th grade in Ohio - that's how I got my penpal. Her name was Isabel. I loved having a penpal but was disappointed in our correspondence. Her letters always said, "Dear Cindy, How are you? I am fine. Write back soon."

Yes, I had penfriends when I was at school. They were mostly people I had met on holiday and kept up correspondence with, or school friends who had moved away. I was the communicator and they got dragged along! I think with each, the time between letters got longer and longer then finally fizzled out as our lives changed.

I had two pen pals when I was in school. One in Finland and one in America. We exchanged letters and small gifts for several years. I’m not sure why we stopped writing, but I often think about Marita in Finland, her and I got along really well.

I had several pen pals when I was a kid. The girl I wrote to longest (5th grade to adulthood) lived in Maui and after I was married and sent to Oahu by the Navy, we flew to Maui and I got to meet her and her family. Her boyfriend at the time happened to be a tour guide, so we got a great personal tour of the island, too! When I was a freshman in college, my mom gave me the address of her friend's son, because she found out we had the same birthday, he was a lonely sailor stationed in Guam, and I liked to write letters. We've been married for 42 years, now!

I had a pen pal for about three years. We faithfully wrote to each other until we were in jr high. I am pretty sure it was through Big Blue Marble. She lived in Tampa, Florida. I wonder how hard it would be to find her?
