Until there is a massive majority on the left do not even suggest opening the discussion to change the Constitution. They have already started talk it gathering name for a convention to make drastic change which would not necessitate going to the states...

Give the president more and more power to screw the American people while finishing the job by cutting protections for the American people re: CDC, FDA, EPA.... They win, we're dead. But guess what? They won't have clean air, water, medical immunities and will die off too as they watch their children shrivel up and face the pain and suffering the result of their fathers' decisions.. I honestly think they think they can use their stolen gazillions to buy their way out of the worst of it. What an honest to goodness shit show. SCOTUS today, with the 6 traitors leading the way, is .... ... I honestly don't have words to adequately express how horrible, amoral and unethical the situation is. crying.

How about declaring 6 Supreme Court justices a threat to the country and taking care of them...with complete immunity. How about both? Otherwise, I fear this is the death knell of the great experiment. Even if Biden wins, I believe that TFG will again try to take over by force. Meal Team Six is standing back and standing by to try their coup again, of course.

I remember the 60s and the feeling when you woke up that the world was changing faster than we could keep up. I recall my parents being quite upset and the short skirts, the Beatles, protests, etc.
It's the flip now. It's changing and not in a progressive way. It's scary. This isn't just name calling. it is a fundamental sea change led by a completely evil person.

The blue hoards better get out and vote... The left is sadly not unified enough. Joe Biden’s too old I’m not voting for either What about Jill stein What about RFK jr This can’t be the best both sides have to offer… Look people, unite, or become a dictatorship. If saving our democracy is even possible anymore. Who knows what shit they have in place to steal the election. Sometimes, I think half the lawsuits from 2020 were just to learn where voting weak spots/hacks are. It’s not that I think Trump is actually that smart. But someone is strategizing towards this fascist regime.

I hate the conservatives on the Supreme Court with a passion. I despise Alito and Thomas in particular. But, I didn’t see this coming. Somehow, despite knowing they are deep in the pockets of Harlan Crow and others, I thought they would just delay and kick it back to the lower courts. Nope, they blew right past any reasonable decision. HCR has a great opinion today. She doesn’t mince words heathercoxrichardson.substack.com/p/july-1-2024Today the United States Supreme Court overthrew the central premise of American democracy: that no one is above the law.
It decided that the president of the United States, possibly the most powerful person on earth, has “absolute immunity” from criminal prosecution for crimes committed as part of the official acts at the core of presidential powers. The court also said it should be presumed that the president also has immunity for other official acts as well, unless that prosecution would not intrude on the authority of the executive branch.
This is a profound change to our fundamental law—an amendment to the Constitution, as historian David Blight noted

For those of you saying that as a result of the immunity decision, President Biden should now take action against SCOTUS and trump: Heather Cox Richardson, in her politics talk yesterday, explained that what the 6 MAGAt SCOTUS judges did was to effectively “booby trap” President Biden. She said that any action he might take to counter any of their recent decisions or to try to stop the runaway trump train would ultimately be handed back to the SCOTUS to rule on. Therefore, his hands are tied - but trump’s won’t be.

Trump world, on the other hand, is already talking about military tribunals and public executions for political opponents.

Therefore, his hands are tied - but trump’s won’t be. Here is what must be done IF Biden is elected he also gets a majority in the House and expand it in the Senate. Congress votes to add 4 more justices to the court making it 13 Justices. Congress also passes a mandatory retirement age of say 72. That would get rid of Thomas and Alito. I’m also thinking of RBG for the mandatory retirement age. She was 87 and sick when she died. She should have retired at the beginning of Obama’s 2nd term. I also think there should be mandatory retirement age for Congress. I supported Diane Feinstein from the time she was mayor of SF, but she should have retired way before she died in office. While we are at change the age requirement for President. You have to be at least 35 and add but not older than 72 to run for President. I support Biden 100% because at this point in time I think he is the right man for the job. But I also think we need age limits for all three branches of government. While I’m at it, there needs to be a strong Code of Ethics for members of the Supreme Court. The idea these rich dudes are handing out free expensive vacations to the Justices and expect nothing in return is ridiculous. The reality is if Thomas and Alito were not on the Supreme Court these rich dudes wouldn’t give them the time of day. Finally if you are convicted of a crime or have outstanding indictments you cannot run for the office of President. This idea of “let the voters decide” is ridiculous.

Democracy Docket…. ” Between Yachts and Flags, It’s Time for Supreme Court Accountability”By Rakim Brooks, Keith Thirion June 6, 2024 “Maya Angelou warned us: “When someone shows you who they are, believe them the first time.” Just how many times do the conservative Supreme Court justices have to show us who they are before we respond accordingly? It’s one thing to accuse a political official of having a covert agenda or a bias that compromises their ability to do the job. It’s quite another when officials openly admit it and then quite obviously gaslight the public in response. Consider the recent revelations that Justice Samuel Alito’s homes (plural) have flown flags (plural) associated with the 2020 election “Stop the Steal” campaign and supporting Christian nationalism. Alito was quick to pin all of the responsibility on his wife Martha-Ann (and triple down on that excuse), and his conservative surrogates jumped to his defense, claiming this was a plausible and reasonable explanation. But the truth is most evident in what he did not say. Alito did not acknowledge that these flags were not only offensive to his neighbors, but also to the U.S. Constitution he is sworn to uphold. He did not acknowledge that flying these flags fell short of the ethical obligations of his position to avoid even the appearance of bias. While he claims to have “asked” his wife to take down the upside-down flag, he apparently made no other effort to remove this anti-democratic symbol from his own home — insisting, in fact, that he was powerless to do so. (If only his respect for women extended to those from whom he’s stripped bodily autonomy in reproductive decisions!) And not once has he apologized, even on behalf of his wife, for the offensiveness of expressing support for overturning an election or imposing Christian theology on the nation. The only takeaway is he was fine with the flag flying, but he somehow thinks he shouldn’t be held accountable for it. Justices’ words can carry the weight of the law of the land and are therefore not mere acts of “free speech” or “opposing views.” They speak to the jurist’s ability — and willingness — to be impartial in the cases that come before them. Alito is literally flying his biases in front of his own home while arguing that only the beliefs he and his wife hold are under threat. Like his colleagues who’ve been scrutinized for their political biases, he is painting himself as the victim while openly daring us to hold him accountable for his own actions. It’s time that we rise to the occasion. The Supreme Court has been weaponized as a political tool as much as the other two branches, and we are overdue to treat it as such. After all, these recent Alito revelations follow a year-long cavalcade of reporting on Justice Clarence Thomas’s unethical behavior — to say nothing of his own spouse Ginni’s participation in trying to overturn the 2020 election. While public trust in the Court has spiraled downward, Chief Justice John Roberts’s silence has been deafening. This Court’s conservatives feel absolutely no threat to their power, and if we don’t act, we are only encouraging them to continue their bad behavior. Congress has the power and obligation to respond. At the minimum, that should include hearings and investigations into the justices’ unethical and compromising behavior. But whether these lead to new findings or not, there needs to be actual accountability. That includes legislation to create an enforceable code of conduct for the Supreme Court; the toothless document the Court produced last fall is clearly insufficient. But the Court’s growing legitimacy issue speaks to a more endemic problem of its structure. So long as justices are welcome to serve for the rest of their lives and are totally free to govern themselves, we can only expect this reckless and unethical behavior to continue. This is why it’s essential to advance reforms to the Court such as term limits that will curtail the unbridled power that justices continue to abuse. Enough is enough. These justices have repeatedly shown us who they are — Alito and Thomas have demonstrably aligned themselves with movements dedicated to gutting the progress we’ve made on civil rights, environmental protections, reproductive rights, LGBTQ+ equality and so much more. It’s time we believe them — and finally do something about it.” x.com/democracydocket/status/1808199520187994155?s=61&t=j45uMgNk1i8O0YllKF58nw

Maybe one of our legal peas would be so kind as to answer this question for me: presidents are impeached for "high crimes and misdemeanors." Under this new SCOTUS ruling, for what, if anything, could a president be impeached, if nothing he/she does in an official capacity can be prosecuted?

Under this new SCOTUS ruling, for what, if anything, could a president be impeached, if nothing he/she does in an official capacity can be prosecuted? Not a lawyer, but given that it is an enumerated Constitutional power, Congress decides what qualifies as a high crime and misdemeanor. The SC has implied several times that the only course for dealing with a rogue President is Impeachment, and if Congress doesn't do it, too bad, so sad. The effective outcome is that there is no dealing with a rogue president because so far no Senate wants to be the first one to find a President guilty and remove him from office. ETA: What the Supreme Court ruled affects normal criminal justice processes. The ability to treat the President like any citizen. It has to go through the Constitutional path, if it concerns official acts (which they can say is just about anything).

I don’t understand why none of the evidence can refer to “official duties” even if the crime was not considered an official duty (like in the hush money case).
