I'm more of a reader than a TV/movie watcher, however - the worst was being in the same room as my daughter watching Lone Star 911. There are a TON of issues with the setting alone. The most egregious was when a volcano just suddenly started spewing lava that basically covered Austin. (I wasn't watching the show prior to this, so I may have missed a couple of details, but that's the gist of it.) Austin is on an ancient fault line and there are a couple of hills that were ancient volcanoes, but none of it has ANY sign of seismic activity nor has it in forever. None. Besides which, volcanoes don't just spontaneously erupt! If I've casually observed correctly, they also show things sometimes like people just riding around places on horses for regular transportation here and things like that, as if we weren't the 10th or 11th biggest city in the US. That show is a pretty ridiculous representation of Texas. Like when they are "out in the country" and there are mountains in the distance. But I'll watch Rob Lowe in pretty much anything

We watched 1/2 of the first episode of the TV show Dallas. We ditched the show because the characters were wearing coats as they prepared for a hurricane to hit Dallas (boarding the windows etc) 1. Hurricanes don't happen when it is cold weather. 2. In the rare case that a hurricane came this far inland the winds have become low enough to be a storm, not hurricane strength.

It’s not exactly the same thing, but when I read The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society the main character (who is from the UK) used the American spelling of words in the letters she wrote. So minor, but it bugged me every time I saw a misspelled word. 🤪😄 ETA…for example, color for colour. I wonder whether there was an American editor for an American release of the book? I've always wondered about that after Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone was retitled for the American market - I never found out why. And did they also change all the spelling to American spelling? Did they change any of the text as well?

I don’t remember as it’s been a very long time since I read the book but the authors are American so I presume it was an American editor as well.

It's why I couldn't watch "Shrinking" past one episode - the things depicted in the series would never happen between therapist and client. I just couldn't.

Doesn't bother me whatsoever, I read for fun, not for actual facts. So most likely I wouldn't even notice to begin with.

I got mad at the recent Ann Hood novel because she was wrong about which museum David is in. So small but so easy to check!
Anyhow people get stuff about Seattle wrong all the time, but while I loved the TV show The Killing, it drove me nuts that the rain was wrong.

It bothers me too. I have a hard time watching shows set in the south. The accents are generally terrible. It’s like fingernails on a blackboard!

I grew up in seattle.. and was so disgusted with the lack of attention to reality with the tv show "here come the brides". supposedly about the Mercer girls.

Yes, David being placed in the wrong museum is exactly the kind of thing that's most annoying to me. lol. Like my town Tenkodogo being in the wrong place. Both would be so easy to fact-check.

I like to learn a little something when I read historical fiction. Therefore, I am trusting the authors and editors to fact check these books.

I believe publications for sale in the US use American spelling. I think it's stupid. It's obviously either written by a Brit or set in Britain.
