Help me figure out what part of my ear to pierce. I just turned 50, my DD is turning 13 in August. She wants to get her cartilage pierced on both ears. She’s already got single in both that she had done when she was 2.5. I have 3 in each lobe and a helix in the left ear that I got done when DH got this right ear pierced (his left was done when we met) 25 years ago. I’m always up for going along with people getting pierced and think it would be kinda cool to get pierced with DD. So??? Location? Pro/con if you have one that’s listed. Other ear location you have/love? eta: pic of piercing locations
all done!

I will have to google what part of the ear is the daith, helix, rook, and tragus, before I can comment!

I think it's highly individual and based on your own particular ear configuration. I started cartilage piercing to celebrate turning 60. I got 3 sequential sort of lower helix piercings in my right ear. Keep in mind that cartilage piercings take up to a year (my later ones took longer than this, but I was older) to completely heal. I did have skin overgrow on one of my piercings and went back to the piercer and switched out for longer posts. I had another piercing done in the right ear at the top of the helix area. As soon as the lockdown ended, I went back and had three more piercings done: a forward helix, another high helix and a mid-helix. I now have nine total piercings, including one in each lobe. If I were younger, I might choose to get more, because I love the look of flat piercings, but I don't want to spend any more time healing piercings. I would think the daith, the tragus and the conch probably are the most painful. I see a lot of industrial piercings, but that's not my vibe.

None because they would never heal on me. I have my ears double pierced, so two in each lobe. I had to leave the piercing studs in for over two years on the second piercings before my body finally quit trying to reject them. With all the care even, it wasn't like I neglected them or went overboard cleaning them either.
My daughter has had many things pierced all over and about half of them were eventually ejected by her body, wouldn't heal, fell out, no matter how much care she took with them. Same for my cousin. So, I just enjoy other people's cool ears or whatever!
I don't know what they're all called and I already forgot the chart, but if I had to choose, I'd get diamond studs in the top inner half. And a small hoop on the upper outside edge.

I voted no extra piercings. I have standard pierced ear lobes that my mom took me to the mall to have done when I was about 12. Because I’m pain averse, I wouldn’t get any more piercings because I think all those other places would hurt like hell.

In 10th grade, 1980, a bunch of my friends and I got together and we were piercing each others ears for double piercings using ice, a potato and a sewing machine needle. When my turn came, I had my right ear done first and it hurt so badly I refused to do my other ear. I had to listen to my friends tell me people were going to think I was gay. 😂 I still just have the 3 piercings. In the 3rd hole is a very small gold hoop that I got when ds23 was born. Before that it was a ying yang stud. In the other two holes I have gold oblong hoops that my best friend gave me when I was 17. Every once in awhile I change them out because of a fancy dress occasion.
There have been times when I thought about additional piercings, but I always chicken out because I remember the pain of hole #3. I would have put any additional in my right ear because I'm a left side sleeper and I think extra things in that ear would drive me crazy.

Sorry, as someone who has had 3 piercing per earlobe and nothing else (And who hasn't actually worn any earrings in 20 years, now), I had to vote Oprah on this one. I don't have any advice, nor do I have any preference. But I hope the two of you are happy with whatever piercings you decide to get.

I haven't worn earrings since the pandemicc started. I used to wear hoops and they would get tangled in the mask ear loops. I tried wearing earrings for a fancy event and my holes got infected. :/
Oh, and I voted no more.

I’m probably not the person to ask. I have a single piercing in each lobe that I’ve had since junior high. I’ve never been tempted to get any others. I personally don’t like the look of multiple piercings.
But it’s your body, your choice.

I am new to cartilage piercings. I think I'm addicted. Up until this winter I had 3 lobe piercings in each ear. I have no idea why but I got a bug to get "one" tragus piercing. Which is my fave and what I voted for.
I have 15 now. On my right I have 5 on the lobe 2 on the helix same plus the tragus on the left ear. Most are some type of studs except for small hoops with a ball in my very first holes. Can't wait to get this cute gold dangle on my flat. The last 2 helix are taking forever to even start to heal it seems tho.

I don't remember my other one taking that long but maybe it did?

I know she knows best. I don't remember my left taking as long either, but I could be misremembering.

I said daith bc I want to do it to help with migraines. I have several friends who have done it and say it's been super helpful.

I voted other because I like the outer conch. Out of the ones you specifically called out in the poll, I’d say daith. Both on the side you have the helix.

One in each ear lobe, traditional style and location.
I got my ears pierced when I was about 40 years old (I think that was the age), because I wanted pretty earrings and the clips were no longer in style. I was very surprised because when I said I was going to do it, DH was happy. "Now I can buy you some jewelry. All the sets have earrings for pierced ears."
Over the years he has gifted me with some pretty earrings.

I have a tragus. Both my daughter and I did it together about 3 years ago. My only thing with it is it makes ear buds fit funny.
If you do do it be sure to get a flat back earring. So much better than a traditional backing.
Not sure if I would do it. I wish I did the rook or daith instead.

Very nice! Your DD looks very pleased. She didn't even flinch! Only did the left side to see how it heals. We go back for a 3 week check and if all things are healing up well, she will get the other ear. She wants to do a moon to go with her star.

I am a horrible person to ask. I had my ears double pierced in college and even that was too much for me. (I am clearly a rebel verbally and not through my piercings. ) Love the idea of star and moon though.

I have two in one ear and three in the other. Just regular pierced ears. Not sure I could get an earring in them anymore. I haven't really worn many earrings since Covid because I was afraid I would lose them taking the mask off and on.
I got my first holes when I was probably about 12 and the others in my early 20s. I'm 62 now and done with that. I don't like pain. lol
What a fun thing to do with your daughter! They look good!

So cute. I want one exactly like the star piercing. This was a brand new flat back that she just got in. My DD got the first one. The piercer has a moon that she wants to do in the other one.
