but it's getting on my nerves. My friend won't call my cat by his name, she refers to him as 'little man' all the time. I feel ridiculous being bothered by it but what's wrong with his name and what should I start calling her cat?! Please add your tiny little problems (especially if they're pettier than mine )

Dh never calls the cats by their real names. Dh used to do that to get a rise out of me. He thinks he's being funny. After all of these years I'm used to it. He's very gentle and playful w/the cats and that's what counts.
Perhaps you could let your friend know that it's confusing to cats when they're called by another name. It is a gentle way to tell her to stop w/o causing a stir. BTW-I doubt it's true.

Is it possible you friend forgot your cat's name? I can see why it would slightly annoy you. My tiny little problem today is that my co-worker has terrible breath - I mean BAD!

I call every cat "Cutie" ... it's just because I think that's what they are! My small thing is dudes on online dating who do not know how to take a decent selfie or post no photo at all! Ugh! How do you expect a woman to have interest if you don't even try?

Another vote for she forgot her name. Sometimes I get a name block for certain people and I cannot remember if I am remembering their name correctly so I avoid calling them by name. (I don’t know if that makes any sense at all!) Or maybe she thinks giving your cat her own nickname shows she loves her.
My petty problem is that everything is so sticky right now do to humidity. Floors, countertops, door handles - it skeeves me out. I have gone through a whole container of disinfectant wipes in 3 days.

As someone who gives nicknames to their own pets maybe it is her term of affection for your cat. My animals all have names, but they have lots of nicknames too. I use a variety of them when talking about or to them.
I like the way you respond to her though. That is cute she checks in on him.

Can you tell her that it bothers you and you would really like her to stop and to call him sushi???
I say this because my bff has a yorkie... her name is princess... but the dog yaps at every single thing.. so i started calling her yappy... mainly because i think princess is sorta dumb... but also because she is yappy!!!
Bff told me 1 day how much she hates me calling her dog yappy... and so i stopped... because i love my friend and i didn't realize i was upsetting her..
It was not like a long full of tears drama thing.. she just said hey i really hate when you call her that...

I adopted an older cat recently. He was either abandoned or ran away from home. I'm thinking abandoned. A rescuer found him in her neighborhood and brought him to the vets as he had been mauled by something. He got patched up and neutered. She posted on FB looking for a forever home for him, and I answered. It took a couple of months before I could bring him home. I changed his name, and kept calling him by his new name. I didn't think he liked it so I also gave a couple of nicknames. One day he was lying on the floor near my bed and I called him by the name I gave him. He lifted his head and looked at me and got up and walked over. I was so happy! He liked his new name and answered to it!
Names are important. Even for animals. Next time she asks how Sushi is by saying "your little man", tell her that he does have a name and his name is Sushi. It's a lot easier to spell out than "little man".

Sounds like she is using a term of endearment for him. Make up one for her cat!
My minor problem is why do I get an unsolicited email from a company after I browse their website once saying "We see you have been checking us out" Please STOP!!

Hey at least she's acknowledging him. My cats all have nicknames and one of them gets called MY LITTLE MAN all the time 🤣🤣
Along with a ton of other names such as Fuzzman, G-Man, G Unit, Tufty, Fuzz, Fuzzlet, and Fuzzy Wuzzy. I'm sure he finds them all equally distasteful! My friend calls him TingTing. He is, indeed, very fuzzy. He has a "government" name for when he goes to the vet, which was his original name, but we changed it because he responded better to the second choice. So he is officially Ali (as in, Muhammad) and at home he's Geralt (as in, the Witcher).
They all know their proper names, and the nicknames, they vaguely know because of the voice I'm using.

LOL my mom has a name she uses for my dog, and it drives me nuts.
Not nearly as nuts as it drive me hearing her refer to my 10 year old niece as "The Baby."
I guess I should be thankful those are the only things I struggle with with her these days!

Yeah that would bother me too.
My sister calls my dog Scouty, MY SCOUTY every time she calls. How's My Scouty doing? If she is claiming ownership, then he has a vet bill coming up because he needs his shots. Send some money. Otherwise, call him Scouty or Scout - I don't care - but leave the MY out of it.

I call my dog little man all the time in addition to variations on his name, Gizmo. He's Gizzy, Gizzymo, Gizzymodo and little man.

My son, John, has a really nice girlfriend. She's A very, very nice girl. But when she's annoyed with him, or he does something stupid (in her eyes), she'll playfully say "Oh, Jonathan". It makes my blood run cold. And I know, believe me, I know in the grand scheme of things this is no big deal. Its not even any of my business. And she's a super nice person. And I'm being petty. But I can't stand it!

my neighbor had a little chubby dog that dog that looked like a potato. i couldn't remember the dog's name for the life of me so i always referred to her as "the potato". neighbor wasn't offended. after that, my neighbor and i always jokingly called her "the potato" every time we talked about her. i still can't remember her name.

That would annoy me also. Totally a small thing, but yeah... My small thing today is where THE HECK did I put the pillow case to the body pillow on dd's bed? omg. I KNOW I took it off to wash it. I'm positive of that because when I first looked at it I thought it didn't have a cover on at all. So I went to Amazon to order another one and that's how I discovered that most body pillow covers have a hidden zipper. Went back to dd's and sure enough it did. So I am positive I took it off, and almost positive I took it down to the laundry along with the sheets. I say "almost" because I suppose I can't swear to that, but it sure isn't in dd's room. There's not that much stuff left in there anyway, and I've looked under the bed and in the black hole between the bed and the wall. So I just ordered a new one from Amazon. I guess that should ensure that I find the first one.

I absolutely detest when people call their young sons, "little man" or variations. I have a relative who calls her grown sons her "man boys" or something like that. Love her and I can't think of anything else about her that isn't great, just that one thing. So yeah, I probably wouldn't care for it much in a cat either, but I could probably deal. But if the OP doesn't care for it, just say the cat likes to be called by it's proper name.

I think her cat is now officially "big momma."
Anyhow, my petty thing for today is that I have to spend my free parking days at work to be at work all day a few days this week and there is no one else in the garage, really. I get the congestion pricing during the school year when the garages are packed, but it's empty! No one is using it! If I come in to work too many days this month (I'm teaching a night class) I'm going to end up having to pay for parking.

I think that's why I started saying it. Also when my nieces were young they described coming to my house as "the land of 1000 cereals and giant man cats" lololol. They had health store organic cereal and petite female cats. We started referring to all our boys as "man cats" and then the baby was "little man cat" and it progressed from there.

I call my daughters cat Big Boy. Why? Because he is a big boy!! I don't think it annoys her. You know what bugs me? One of my nearest and dearest girlfriends who is a grown, mature woman say SANKS instead of THANKS. Every time she does in person I want to slap her. If she says it in a text, I don't text her back.

We bought a cabin a few years back. There is no way it's a "home" by my standards. It is about 1,000 square feet and has a tiny shed. There is no mailbox and no driveway. My MIL refers to it as our "lake home". It grates my nerves. Then she always likes to tell me how she could never keep up with two houses. Um thanks, but this is your son's dream so quit crushing it!

I absolutely detest when people call their young sons, "little man" or variations. it could be worse. SIL has daughters and when they were young, BIL would call them "lover". DH and I would cringe at the way he would say it when he called either one of them--- " hey looooooovvver......". so glad he stopped doing that.
