I tend to start with other people's LOs as my "sketch." It gives me a better idea of where I want to go with it than just some shapes in a square box. It generally is not a legitimate scraplift, because rarely does my LO turn out exactly like the original. This is me -- I usually start with someone else's layout that I have saved to one of my Pinterest boards as it gives me a plan as to what I think I want my creation to look like. And I frequently use ideas from more than one layout to complete a single layout -- I call it hybrid scraplifting. The layout I'm working on now I have 3 different layouts and a sketch that I'm referencing.

The digital equivalent of sketches is templates, and yes, I love & use them regularly. Deciding where the papers go is my least favorite part of scrapping so being able to digitally clip all my papers into pre-designed spaces is perfect for my ADHD brain and keeps my pages from looking all the same. I'm working through our Spain album right now & while I'm not scrapping all 632 photos (obviously!), using templates helps me get more photos on more pages. Of the 29 pages I've done thus far, 26 use multi-photo templates including some Project Life-esque pocket pages.
I do sometimes scrap a page without a template if it's more a single photo/moment vibe.
