I do hope that karma bites her in the derrière. She's hoping that if TFG wins in November, karma will pay her back by putting her up for SCOTUS.

So since this case is out, so is the case for trying to overturn the election. Right? Jack Smith is the special council on that case as well. I don't think so. The judge in that case would have to rule that it was an illegal appointment. The documents case will be appealed and will probably end up at the Supreme Court. eta - I'm not sure about the other case. It sounds like we will have to wait to find out. www.nytimes.com/live/2024/07/15/us/trump-documents-case-dismissedFor those wondering how Judge Cannon’s decision will affect Trump’s other federal case — the one in which he stands accused of plotting to overturn the 2020 election — the short answer is: Let’s wait and see. Trump’s lawyers in the election interference case will no doubt seek to use her ruling to kill that indictment, too. But Smith’s team will surely appeal the ruling, setting up a showdown in the 11th Circuit Court of Appeals in Atlanta. And the cases may run on separate tracks for a while until the Supreme Court renders its own decision on the issue.

I would hope this gets overturned on appeal, but who knows? The appeals court did overrule her twice and Canon rejected precedent from higher courts. www.nytimes.com/2024/07/15/us/politics/cannons-dismissal-of-trump-case-rejects-precedents-of-higher-courts.htmlJudge Aileen M. Cannon cut against decades of decisions by higher courts in declaring on Monday that the appointment of Jack Smith as a special counsel was illegitimate, throwing out the indictment against former President Donald J. Trump in the classified documents case.
Her decision contradicted what the Supreme Court said in a landmark ruling in 1974 in upholding a subpoena by Mr. Jaworski seeking President Richard M. Nixon’s Oval Office tapes during the Watergate scandal. While a former Justice Department official, Mr. Jaworski was in private practice when the acting attorney general, Robert H. Bork, appointed him to take over the case.
In a unanimous ruling, Chief Justice Warren E. Burger, a Nixon appointee, cited those statutes in broaching Mr. Jaworski’s appointment.
Congress had vested in the attorney general both the “power to conduct the criminal litigation of the United States government” and “the power to appoint subordinate officers to assist him in the discharge of his case the judge wrote.

Is there some say Biden can get Judge Cannon off the bench since he has these almighty powers granted by the Supreme Court?
It's not like she didn't know who appointed Jack Smith from the start of this case. This is just a delaying tactic perfectly timed to go with Trumps proclamation that since the assassination attempt, all of his cases against him should go away. There is no logic to that whatsoever but when has that stopped him or from people believing him?

I just can’t believe that anyone could get away with this. He could kill someone and his minions wouldn’t even blink at this point. Actually he might be responsible for deaths since so many of our assets were killed while he was in office and probably in some of those documents. I just can’t believe he isn’t even going to go to trial but I guess I shouldn’t be surprised at this point. If he wins in November he will walk and he will seek revenge as promised. It’s going to be very ugly. Not to mention all the other things he wants to do.

He could kill someone and his minions wouldn’t even blink at this point. Well, he actually said that in 2016. He said he "could stand on Fifth Avenue and shoot somebody" and he would get away with it. If he becomes President again, he really can do that as long as he makes it an 'official duty.'

This sounds good. And I want it appealed, or re-filed under the DOJ's signature. But, we know that it will almost certainly end up at the Supreme Court, and this court is doing everything it can to strip powers away from agencies and departments of government. It’s entirely possible they will rule that the attorney general CAN'T appoint a special counsel. Most legal experts didn’t seem to think they’d go as far as they did in upholding immunity for a President, but they did. I have no faith in the Supreme Court anymore.

With my limited knowledge, I see this to be a good thing. Now Jack Smith has something he can appeal to the 11th circuit where I would expect he would win and hopefully Eileen Cannon will be forced to recuse herself.

THis gave me great hope until someone said then Trump would appeal and it would go to the SC, and well, we know how they would rule there...

Is he secretly paying someone off? How does he get away with all this crap? I've long held the theory that he made a deal with the devil.

if he gets elected again, he will also have two more supreme court judges. and that's just the start of it. Being a judge, even SCOTUS, is likely to mean little anymore if he takes over (because I don't think he'll be elected, but I don't think that will matter to him). He has never cared for the rule of law, and seems likely to rule by proclamation.

Is he secretly paying someone off? How does he get away with all this crap? No, the Billionaires are paying *him* off. Trump is just like Justices Thomas and Alito in Billionaire world. He's so desperate for the money, he'll promote whatever they want him to. They probably assumed it would take a Machiavellian Dick Cheney type to get what they wanted. But it turns out, it was the useful idiot that delighted the mob. Others have learned if they play along, hopefully, some of that gravy train will come their way eventually. But the money is coming from the Billionaire club.

The appeal was almost a certainty, but still good news.

He once said he could shoot someone in the middle of Times Square and wouldn’t lose any voters & sadly he is right, in fact, they’d probably support him even more. How can so many people be under his mind control? I guess he also knows how to grease palms with either money or promises of power/position.

If TFG gets in the White House they, will never leave. They will claim fake results if they want to and by then all the judges will be in their pockets.
