I get together once a week with some girlfriend and we make what we call garbage salad. One person brings the lettuce and everyone else brings 1 cup of something to add to it.
Here is where I need some new ideas of add ons, what would you bring to add?

Home made candied pecans are great in salads. Combined with Gorgonzola cheese - yum.

My favorite salad is romaine lettuce, beets, feta cheese, cucumber, kalamata olives, red onion. Basically, a greek salad with beets. Add grilled chicken and it's perfect.

If you want to take cheese, take something like goat cheese. I cannot digest milk from cows. Gorgonzola is horrific if you are lactose intolerant.
The best salad I make (and get tons of compliments on) is spinach, goat cheese, sliced almonds, mangoes, strawberries and blueberries. I also put diced rotisserie chicken in. The dressing is mango balsamic vinegar and blood orange evoo, salt and pepper.

Everything But the Bagel seasoning from Trader Joes.
I do a similar thing for salad lunches in the summer. I buy the Spring Mix from Costco or Kroger and then add a protein and whatever else I want. The proteins can be either rotisserie chicken from the deli, deli meat, smoked salmon, leftover protein from dinner.

You didn't ask for entire salad ideas but our favorite is mixed greens with sliced strawberries, mandarin orange segments, sugar snap peas, grilled chicken, sugar roasted pecans pieces, crumbled bleu cheese and a raspberry vinaigrette dressing.

I just made a Greek salad with feta, with lots of fresh dill and Italian parsley, with a fresh dressing of olive oil, full-fat plain Greek yogurt, lemon juice and champagne vinegar. SO flavorful! It called for capers which I didn’t have, and couldn’t add olives because DH thinks they’re instruments of the devil. I loved it so much I want to make it again but add either capers or olives and some kind of nuts. The fresh herbs make all the difference.

We’ve raised goats and the cheese just tastes like, well, smelly goats. But enjoy if ya like it!

juanita thanks for posting. I get in the habit of the same ole, same ole, so this thread is excellent for a reminder there are so many other goodies to put on your greens! I really like to add Crispy Red Bell Peppers to my salads rather than croutons. You and purchase them in the grocery store with other salad toppings and come in a bag/pouch. Chick-Fil-A includes a packet of them when you order a Cobb Salad. They are a bit better than the grocery store ones, but still yummy.

Roast quinoa.
Cook the quinoa. Then toast in over coated with chili oil. It’s so good and adds a crunch.

I was going to suggest grains of some sort. A great way to bulk up a salad. I use farro sometimes as well. As another suggestion I haven't seen yet, try torn up french baguette or a good sour dough loaf. Gives a nod to a good panzanella salad. (But NOT croutons - especially store-bought ones. Too big and too hard. I dislike them in a salad.)

A friend added a good quality sauerkraut to green salad once and I liked it. I love sun-dried tomatoes, the ones that come in a bag, not packed in oil. Also love arugula and thinly sliced red cabbage.
