So not sure who here follows VM on Instagram but I was curious if any peas have done what she is going to do.
For those who do not follow her here is a breakdown:
Revamping her craft space for family use
Downsizing a lot (throwing away albums/layouts)
Planning to a T new albums for her daughter )she has it to where there will only be 6 or 7 albums total so like baby, toddler, elementary, etc)
Daughter wants 8.5x11 albums so she is going through and will either cut down if possible or remake a page so it is 8.5x11
Only doing core important stories
I find it interesting that she is going to redo albums to fit the 8.5x11 albums she has so planed out.
I have gone from 12x12 to 9x12 and will not be redoing layouts so they are all 9x12.
She is also redoing them to fit her new aesthetics and how she scrap looks now.
So have any peas done this? Does this appeal to you? Have you redone layouts because they don't your current style? Have you redone layouts to fit your current album size?
I kind of like flipping through my albums and seeing how my style has changed. It's also fun to see how products have changed. And to see what was in 15 years ago.
And while I have switched page size, no way do I want to redo layouts to fit that current style.

I'm super interested in what she's doing. It's not for me, but I don't have nearly the albums she does. I've got 10+ years of 6X8 december daily, 10+ travel albums 6X8 and smaller, and some 9X12 disney albums. I'm doing 9X12 project life now but never again. It's not for me. I get what she is doing but for me, I like looking back at my style 10 years ago. That's part of the charm. And in 10 years my style will be different again. joblackford did something similar by scanning in many of her albums and making digital books (I think). For me that makes a lot of sense. I'm good for space now. But imagine if you had as many albums as Ali but no place for them. Also, what is a core important story? I'm curious. I've done WITL 3-4 times and those are some of my favorite albums. Most of them don't document anything interesting but wow is it cool to look back. The first one I did was in 2014, a lifetime ago. That's a project I certainly would like to keep doing every other year.

It's not for me. I have a lot of albums and was running out of shelves for them, so I asked my husband to build more shelves for me. It brings me so much joy to look through them, even the ones from my CM days. When my 30-year-old daughter comes to visit, she looks through them and reads the journaling. Sometimes she'll make fun of what I've written, but she takes pictures of her favorite layouts.
I also have only scrapped for myself and my family. It's probably different for Victoria and others who have been on design teams.
I also wonder if some of the older albums, from when Victoria's spouse presented as male, feel in-authentic now. My daughter's former partner has transitioned to female, and I'm unsure about how to scrap older pages from when they were together. I'm not even sure which name to use in my journaling since there have been several name changes. (Of course this would be a non-issue if I kept up with current photos.)

Interesting. This is not for me. Once I am gone people can do whatever they want with my albums. I imagine that if I ever downsized I might make a decision to scan and make photobooks, but I love my layouts. I also would not re-do my layouts. I might re-scrap the same photos twice, and re-tell the same story differently, but I would probably leave things intact. Also, what is a core important story? I'm curious. I've done WITL 3-4 times and those are some of my favorite albums. Most of them don't document anything interesting but wow is it cool to look back. The first one I did was in 2014, a lifetime ago. I feel the same way about my monthly PL spreads. I love the look into daily life. I could not pick what is going to be a significant story. Besides, I scrap for a creative exercise and stress relief. Those aspects of my hobby are very important to me and I don't see myself limiting how many pages I can do. I feel like it would suck the joy out of it for me.

I wonder how much of it is that in the past, she has done so much brand specific layouts --- that maybe weren't her style, but she had obligations to create with as a designer. I know when I was actively on DT's, I had to use whatever they sent me even if it wasnt what *I* wanted to use. Looking back, I hate those layouts.

If that brings her happiness, go for it.
For me, I’m not going back and redoing a layout. And I LOVE scrapping the stuff that isn’t “core important”. I mean, who is to say what is important anyway?

I think that if that is what she wants to do with her scrapbooks/layouts, then more power to her. It's not something I'm looking to do - although looking at my wall of albums...maybe I should, lol. I like looking back at my style 10 years ago. That's part of the charm. And in 10 years my style will be different again. While I do cringe a little at some of my earliest layouts, as my DS32 told me- they are part of my progression as a scrapper and HE likes them. So no, no plans to redo previous layouts. I have MORE than enough photos still to scrap without rescrapping any. I have a lot of albums and was running out of shelves for them, so I asked my husband to build more shelves for me Love this! I've already put another Kallax on DH's IKEA list (that's what my albums are stored on) I also wonder if some of the older albums, from when Victoria's spouse presented as male, feel in-authentic now. And I think if that's the case, that's a very valid concern. And she might well want to show her spouse's story differently than in the past. I wonder how much of it is that in the past, she has done some much brand specific layouts --- that maybe weren't her style, but she had obligations to create with as a designer. I know when I was actively on DT's, I had to use whatever they sent me even if it wasnt what *I* wanted to use. Looking back, I hate those layouts. I've heard that from other DT members also - and in a tiny way, I can relate...sometimes I've tried too hard to fit a challenge and made a layout that wasn't really me and I can always pinpoint those when I'm looking through an album. I've gotten better, over time, at making the challenges fit my style rather than forcing my style to fit a challenge but I still sometimes end up with a layout that just doesn't feel right.

I understand feeling overwhelmed with products/pages/albums/tools, but my solution will not be to throw out completed layouts or albums. I like seeing the evolution of my style and the different products used on each page.
I have thrown away a handful of layouts that I didn't love after I finished them, but I remake the layouts with the photos. I also have no plans to remake 12x12 layouts into a smaller size.

I think Victoria Marie is in a different place than most of us are -- she created most of her LOs for her channel or for design teams or for her business. She did not create them out of love for what she was doing in the same way that we did. Not that she didn't create them out of love, she definitely loves scrapbooking and her family. But her reasons for doing what she did on a page or an album size, etc., had more to do with fulfilling a specific task, not so much keeping a memory. So she is getting rid of her old "job" so to speak. She at one time was creating at such a frenetic pace that I was never sure how she lasted so long until she finally took a break, so she probably has a lot she could get rid of that wouldn't make a difference to her actual retained memories as it would to ours.
With that said, I would not re-do an album because a child wanted a different size. I would not get rid of stuff and/or re-do stuff because my aesthetic might have changed. And I do not re-do pages. When I do different sized albums, they just get added to the mix.
My former scrapbook room is now a craft room. I have too many grandkids using it for it to be a singular space. Funnily enough, even the littlest ones call it the scrapbook room because their older siblings/cousins still call it that.
I think it will be fun to watch Victoria Marie as she deals with downsizing. There are so many applications we could all probably make to our hobbies/lives.

I think Victoria Marie is in a different place than most of us are -- she created most of her LOs for her channel or for design teams or for her business. This is exactly why she's doing it, from what I gathered from her instagram stories and her facebook group. She has a lot of layouts that she had to create for contract commitments and she doesn't need to keep all those. As for me, I've been scrapping longer than her but don't have nearly as many layouts/albums, so I'm keeping all mine for now. If I get to a point where I don't have as much to scrapbook, I may go back and redo some of the earlier layouts I did that were more Creative Memories (in the early days) style than I like now but until that time comes, I'm keeping all mine.

I'm not familiar with the person referenced, but have zero interest or need for this approach, especially since my scrapbooking style & size has not substantially changed.

I've never heard of her, but what's she's doing is not for me. It's very interesting, but I simply am not interested in doing the same. I make my albums for myself. My kids can do with them as they wish later, and I make that very clear to them now. (I don't want there to be any feeling bad on anyone's part about just trashing them if that's what they wish to do.) If they want to digitalize all, some, none, that's fine. If they want to alter them in any way, again, fine. If they want to pull a few favorite layouts and that's it, that's fine, too. But I don't currently have any plans to redo any albums to their current preferences.

I changed the journaling on a layout earlier this year because DD found it insulting and I asked on this board about it, but I would not change the size of my albums.
I am considering getting a 12 by 12 scanner someday so the kids don’t have to fight over layouts and I can have a digital back up but that’s a huge project…

I don't think I could be that drastic, but I have been thinking a lot lately about my albums esp as I deal with aging and how heavy they are and cumbersome. I would like to transition away from 12x12 D rings as the bulk is just crazy huge, but then what? I have done some smaller albums and they are okay, but not for everyday scrapping.
It was actually Victoria Marie who I first found doing a more traditional Citrus Twist album-it was like a 12x12 only shrunk down. I loved her flip through and her approach, as well as her perspective. Not only did she bring some much needed diversity to the table, but her matter of fact-ness about her spouse's coming out and gender felt good to me as the parent in law of a transgender person. So I like her for lots of reasons-I hope she stays with scrapbooking in some form.

I have been following along with this and I’m looking forward to her sharing more about the process! She’s going to be making content about what she’s doing and why, and taking us all along on the journey.
Some of it is the contract/DT projects and for sure most of that is going into the bin. That stuff was probably never intended to be kept long term.
But I think some of us just have a part of our brains that push us to re-work things, and some people do not. I follow a few people who have converted their PL albums into digital photo books. And there’s also that minimalist lady Susie Fish who rips apart her pages and reuses them over and over. She is extremely process focused. Shimelle has also talked about one day getting to a point where the container concept is going to kick in and she’ll remove less loved pages to make space for more loved ones.
I have reworked multiple albums over the years. The original albums went in the bin, or got disassembled. I’ve kept photos in some cases, trashed them in other cases. I’ve rearranged 2 volume PL albums and tossed out the stuff that makes me cringe or that’s meaningless to make them fit in one volume. (Don’t worry, my family doesn’t really care about what happened on NCIS or New Girl in 2013, and not all traces of my interest in TV shows has been erased 😆 nothing important has been lost).
I think of it as first drafts, no harm in refining them and creating something better from them if that’s going to make you happier. I also have major space issues, and no one was/is looking at the old albums. Not even me! So what’s the point in keeping them as they are? I’d rather rework them to be easier to store, and in the process I can adjust some things, add some perspective, tell better stories, and toss out the stuff that doesn’t speak to me any more.
I totally understand why this approach is not for everyone. Sometimes I ask myself why I’m wasting time reworking old stuff instead of doing something new. But in the end it feels right to me, for me and my family.

I wouldn't get rid of or re-do any of my layouts.
I have replaced yellowed epoxy embellishment, with something else (sticker, die cut, etc...) on a few layouts I also tossed all my yellowed epoxy, some of it was brand new. Creative Imaginations yellowed the most (in my opinion). Wasted so much money, on that worthless junk.
I have replaced some of my "scrapbook furniture", that was no longer serving me well. I had rolling hanging file carts, which I loved....they held a lot of product, which made them HEAVY to push, pull, move around. I switched to bins on top of 2 x 3 cube units. The bins hold much less, so they are not as heavy. The four cube units are longer and take up more floor space, than the four file carts. I was sad to let the carts go....but I am happy to not have my back and neck hurt, from pulling the carts out of the scrapbook closet every time I scrapbooked.

Agreed- the scrapping only “core” stories lost me. I can look back with my dds at old pages and it’s funny the ones they love and for what reason or that fill my heart. Little things. To me, scrapbooks would not be meaningful without that little stuff of life. And redoing old work? Oh hell to the no. lol

This is very much my intention- one day. I don’t have the time or energy for it at present, but will eventually digitise all my scrapbooks to take away any potential burden on those who will have to deal with them at some (hopefully very distant) point.

I haven't followed her closely since she largely stepped back from her youtube channel so thanks for sharing some of the detail here. I can understand why she might be doing it, I've gone through my own albums and pulled out pages that no longer felt important, and reduced and consolidated albums. I occasionally worry about how many albums I'm going to end up with. I've re-done older pages, mostly because they didn't have any story, and would not hesitate to remake other pages if I thought I could do a better job with it now. I wouldn't take the time to remake everything just because it's not in my current style. Also, what is a core important story? I'm curious. I've done WITL 3-4 times and those are some of my favorite albums. Most of them don't document anything interesting but wow is it cool to look back. This is a really interesting part for me. When we cleaned out my grandmother's house after she moved into aged care we found an old diary that was full of random notes that offers such a window into what life was like for her at this time, including the cost of tinned peaches (69 cents!), and the cost of new tyres for my Dad's car and how many kms he got out of the old set. Those would never make my list of core stories, but they are so interesting now.

She has inspired me. I feel freed by all she's said so far on this topic. I have some layouts I didn't even really like at the time, and I feel like now I can redo them. I won't redo every layout I consider 'imperfect,' or 'not my current style' Just ones that are really not what I want in my album. Two examples: A museum late I hate because the paper is not at all reflective of the mood & feel I want for the photos. I want it to be more vintage and more in line with the intent of my journaling.. I'll post a before & after & hopefully it'll make sense.
The other thing layout that comes to mind is the photos I took of my former church's music director's last day at the church. I hated the guy. I have NO idea why I did a full layout to honour the guy. The journalling is disingenuous. I will either use one photo as part of a month in review layout from that month, or if I do an actual layout, I'll choose papers I prefer, and do more honest journalling.
The other reason I'm doing this is because I want the stories I leave behind to be relevant. My family doesn't need dozens of layouts with photos of me with people they don't know. I still want those folks represented, but they're not in my life anymore and I don't feel the need to have so many layouts about them.
I also have base pages I'm not going to keep.

I follow Victoria Marie on Instagram, and I love her pages. I hadn't seen her posts about this, as I really only look at posts showing layouts. So have any peas done this? Does this appeal to you? Have you redone layouts because they don't your current style? Absolutely I have done this! I cannot stand to even look at my early layouts, and I sure as hell wouldn't want anyone else to see them. They're awful. I have re-scrapped some of them, and when I eventually find the negatives for my daughter's baby/toddler photos (pre-digital), I will re-scrap every single layout. The only reason that I haven't already re-scrapped all of my early layouts is because I cut all the photos into stupid shapes, and I can't find the negatives to get the photos reprinted.

I've been following along on Instagram as well and I'm intrigued. I don't have plans on re-doing any layouts because I like to see the changes in my scrapbooking and really I have tons of new stuff I want to scrap without having to keep going back and re-doing old pages.
What has resonated with me is the idea of my scrapbooking can change to suit my life now. Not that permission was needed but hearing people say things like that out loud provides an "a ha!" moment for me at least. I have no plans on changing sizes of scrapbooking but I've also come to realization that I don't want to do some projects anymore, and I don't have to just because I've done them for 10 years before. Take for example WITL. I've done and completed 10 or 12 albums. This year felt like a real burden to get completed and I wasn't even excited to show it off to family. This tells me I can let that project go and change things up. I think with what VM is doing is just that and how she does it will work for her. For me it will be smaller changes moving forward, rather than going back to fix things that in my world don't need fixing.

It just sounds like so much wasted time when new pages can be made. I understand the need to downsize but cutting all of them down? I have no idea how that would work- it would ruin the whole balance of the design so you'd have to rip it apart and start over. Too much work and stuff is bound to get ruined in the process. Just reprint the photos you want and rescrap them.
I have gone back into old layouts and removed epoxy and flair and yellowed vellum tape. I also didn't use a huge amount of patterned paper when I started so I went back into some of my layouts and added patterned paper and extra, more up to date embellishments. I've greatly improved some of them. But I never went through the "sticker sneeze and cut photos into shapes" phase of scrapping, and I started in that era. I've always been happy with my pages, some of them just needed tweaked.
My scrapbooks are probably all going in the bin when I die. I'm okay with that- if my nephews want some layouts, that would be nice, but I don't expect it.

I don't follow her but I wouldn't redo books to fit another size. I have done a few layouts that I was never happy with even from the beginning, but mostly no I would not redo them. All my albums are 12x12 except for some random projects I have done.
