What did you want to be

Not an attorney but my brother is. He and Steve Young (former NFL quarterback) graduated law school the same year (and same school). My brother passed the bar the first time, it took Steve Young a few times to pass. My brother will tell it it's easy but I'm sure Steve Young will tell you differently. I think it really depends on the person and how they study and how they take tests. 

At 10 years old I took my first acting class. That was all I needed to know that I wanted to be on stage. I started professional voice training when I was 16 and after high school graduation and one year of college, I dropped out and went to an at-the-time prestigious acting school. I was just about to make my break as a character actress when I realized that I hated the Hollywood lifestyle. The drugs, the dysfunction and the shallow people were scary to me. So, I went back to college. I was studying to become a psychotherapist.

Bills and life got in the way, since I was older and I had to leave school. I had worked retail management to support myself and did that until I became a recruiter and hr. manager. I hated every second of those jobs and when I had the opportunity to become a SAHM I ran to it. I had planned to finish my degrees and internships to become a therapist when the kids started kindergarten, but I became ill.

Alas, I was a stay-at-home mom and very fulfilled. Now  I'm in my 60's and I'm taking voice lessons and I'm reminded that singing is joyous for me. Though I'll always wonder what would have happened if I'd taken that next step as an actress, I know that I wouldn't have my family and nothing beats that, not even being on stage.

Did you take drama classes when you were young? Performing was great, because when I was on stage I could control the room. I could cry or scream or laugh and show extreme emotion. It was like therapy for control freaks.

No, I'm drama enough on my own 🤣

I have no idea if I'd just fold on the set. I feel like I'm very good at acting but it's not like I have any judges besides people who know me. I used to have fun writing "scripts" as a kid and then acting them out while cleaning the house, a one-man show. Making up additional scenes for movies or TV. I always had an active imagination! And I still do it.

I have never had a desire to be anything, on career days in elementary school I had no clue what I wanted to be. Even now I don’t have a passion for any type of work, I enjoy my simple life with my family and if I could make money being a mother and caregiver I would but that doesn’t carry much worth in this world.

Currently I assist architects, designers, draftspeople and contractors get building permits approved at my local building department.

I wanted to go into politics 😱. My degree is in Political Science not just because it was the old don’t know what I want to be degree.

Yeah, that’s no longer a dream with my shitty temperament and inability to hold my tongue with stupidity

I always wanted to be a musician. I am one, but it turns out I enjoy doing music with kids much more than I would have enjoyed all the rejection and uncertainty of a performer’s life.

Radio disc jockey. I was obsessed with the radio since I was little. I'd even done a few things in high school to further that along. Then when it was time to look for colleges, my parents said they had nothing. So I graduated high school and worked full time. This was the late 80's. I worked in pharmacy until I had my children.

Marine Biologist -  or anything that didn't require me to sit at a desk all day.  My Dad  insisted I take business classes in high school.

I am an accountant, I have hated it for over 40 years.  I will be retiring at the end of this year.

I wanted to work in the travel industry.  Which I did for a few years.  Probably my favorite job but pay was low and everything based on seniority.  So after about six months of almost getting laid off, I gave it up.  I wish I would have tried another avenue but it is what it is. 

I thought I would like to be a psychiatrist or therapist. I ended up working in Banking for 30 years and loved it!

I wanted to be a librarian and a school bus driver! Could be because I had a crush on the school librarian who was also my bus driver. She was so sweet and pretty. I probably thought that was what all women should do. Or a teacher but I didn't want to do that.

I am neither, although I was a librarian assistant when I was 14. My first summer job that wasn't as a babysitter.
