The former president has been banking on a rematch with President Joe Biden, who dropped his own re-election campaign Sunday over widespread concerns about his age. And the political analyst told "Morning Joe" that Trump might already regret doubling down on MAGA extremism as Vice President Kamala Harris emerges as the likely Democratic nominee.

"Your core conviction is this race is going to be close," Heilemann said. "Donald Trump and his team's core conviction is it is not going to be close. They came into the convention, and for a long time, Donald Trump was thinking a much safer caretaker kind of pick [for running mate]. That's why Doug Burgum was in the race, Marco Rubio, people who were very safe.

"By the time they got – he made his decision at the last minute, from all the reporting we can tell, started to shift toward the notion of a legacy pick in the last month or so before the Republican convention, but he finally made his decision after the assassination attempt. By that time, within the Trump campaign, there is a view they're headed for a landslide. They thought that before the debate, they thought Donald Trump was on his way to winning 320 electoral votes. In regards to the timing, part of it may have been calculated but part of it was a combination of things out of the Democrats’ control- the poor debate performance, the shooting and the bump Trump got from that, the documents case being dismissed and the Republican convention. Momentum was definitely in the Republicans’ favor. I love that Biden announced after the convention and now the Republicans are stuck with both Trump and Vance. Trump was arrogant when he picked Vance. Rubio or Haley would have been a better choice strategically.  But I guess neither of them kissed Trump's a&s enough or didn't agree to violate the constitution or didn't give the right answer to certifying the election.  (Vance said that in Pence's place, he would not have certified the election.)

Don't worry, Manchin won't be Harris' VP and said he wasn't running.  So you won't be forced to choose between the orange cheeto and him.

Harris Raised $81 Million in First 24 Hours as Candidate

Vice President Kamala Harris raised $81 million in the first 24 hours since announcing her bid for president, her campaign said, a record-breaking showing as Democrats welcomed her candidacy with one of the greatest gushers of cash of all time.

Her campaign said that 888,000 donors had contributed in her first day, 60 percent of whom were making their first contribution of the 2024 contest. The campaign signed up 43,000 of those donors to make recurring donations, it said.

The Harris campaign did not break down what share of the $81 million was raised online by small-dollar donations versus from major donors.

But ActBlue, the digital donation portal for Democrats up and down the ballot, had processed more than $90 million in the same 24-hour period, according to a New York Times analysis of the platform’s online ticker of contributions.

His Instagram is very thoughtfully done. Some people attribute it to his staff but it’s often just him on video so while I assume his staff does help he’s obviously there filming the videos. If it’s his staff then he’s had them for decades as he’s always been that thoughtful with what he puts out.

Cory Booker has always been very image conscious, both with what he says and his photo ops. And I’ve joked for years about him being a photo op politician. And when he was Mayor of Newark his administration lacked what his image seemed to promise, the media labeled him image without substance.

But, as my Senator, he’s voted the way I’ve wanted over 90% of the time. He has sponsored or co-sponsored multiple bills that I agree with. I’m very very happy with my ‘photo op’ Senator and I happily voted for him when he was running after being appointed. I hope I can have 2 senators to be proud of after November 🤞🏻
