No I know they would look nicer but I keep most things in the original containers. I do put sugars, flour and rice into tuperware type containers. Oh I also put cereal in tuperware containers.

Now I am curious about decanters for mouth wash. Its just not something I ever thought about doing.

I like to be able to easily identify things so most stuff is in its original packaging.
But I have those vintage aluminum canisters for flour, sugar, etc and those get used. I also have jars for qtips and cotton balls, and soap dispensers.
Those fancy pantries I've seen with matching containers look nice but for me it's totally unnecessary.

I only transfer out for two reasons. First, freshness or avoid tiny little ants in the flour. Second, I bought Costco size, and that doesn’t work for storage in our tiny kitchen. So I have containers for flour, white and brown sugar, rice, baking soda, vinegar, olive oil, popcorn and probably something else I’ve forgotten.

Almost nothing stays in its original packaging at our house. I have Tupperware modular & spice mates for every type of dry food possible, e.g., baking supplies, pastas, cereals, spices, etc. I like my cabinets very organized! I also decant shampoo, lotion, etc., because I like the larger bottles with a pump top on it in the shower rather than a squeeze bottle.

Now I am curious about decanters for mouth wash. Its just not something I ever thought about doing. Yeah, that caught my eye because that is not something I ever thought of doing. The one I saw was just a clear pear shaped bottle with a lid on top that can double as a cup. Reminded me a liquor decanter. I like to be able to easily identify things so most stuff is in its original packaging. Yup, me too. Even at friend's house, I like to know what kind of soap I am using.

Flours, sugars, rice, oatmeal, and saltine crackers (still in the sleeve, but not the box) are all that I can think of. I used to do cereal when the kids were small, but I rarely buy cereal now. Everything else stays in its original packaging.

Only things that are bought in bulk packaging or have flimsy packaging are decanted into OXO pop containers - rice, hand soap, flour, sugar, baking soda, coffee beans, etc.
I tend to only buy spices/seasonings from one vendor so those all match, but they aren't on display so that wouldn't bother me if they didn't match.
I can't think of any repackaging I do solely for the way it looks.

I put things that could get weevils or other bugs into sealed containers, like various flour, pancake mix, cereal, pasta, rice, sugars, etc. I put things like various chocolate chips, Reese’s Pieces, M&M’s etc. into big containers that are easier to measure out of since I buy those in huge bags for baking. Things that already come in containers that seal tightly can stay in their own containers, such as dog biscuits, soap and shampoo, molasses, honey, corn syrup.
If something has a bag or inner bag that can be reclosed with a clip or a ziplock like crackers, chips, cookies I leave that stuff in the original package because it usually will be consumed fast enough to not warrant changing it into another container.

Spices are all in matching bottles because I buy them from ethnic food stores (WAYYYY cheaper) and they come in bags. I store the bags in the pantry and fill the jars to use.

"Original packaging - yes or no" does "yes" mean "Yes, original packaging," or does it mean, "Yes, I take items out of their original packaging and put them into different containers."?

Do you take items out of their original packaging and put them into different containers. For instance, I saw a video where the gal put mouthwash, lotion, and soap into matching containers. Or, how they make spice racks where all the spice bottles match. For the most part, I don’t. The only time I do is for certain items where I think a different container would keep the item from going bad. Like I put my sugar into a Tupperware-like container. My spices stay in their original packaging. Most things in my house stay in their original packaging. I have thought about it, and it does look nice, but I am just too lazy to transfer things. Im confused- the poll says "Original Packaging yes or no?" The post says "Do you take things out of the original packaging?" Which question am I answering in the poll?

My spices stay in their original packaging. My first thought was, "What about all those cinnamon recalls, where there was lead and arsenic tainted product. How do you know if your stuff is recalled if you don't have the packaging? I keep all my food in original packaging. The only item I put in my own container is handsoap, because I buy big refill bottles. But I keep the refill bottle under the sink, so I know what i have anyway.

I can't think of any repackaging I do solely for the way it looks. This is exactly what I do. I use and label the OXO containers for pantry items like rice, flour, sugar to keep them organized and easy to find. I like that they stack easily and I can see what I have and what might need to be replenished. I have 8-10 spices/seasonings in larger containers because I use them often, in large amounts and/or buy in bulk so it just makes more practical sense for us. Everything else stays in original packaging.
