Hi everyone! I'm meeting my mum for breakfast at Denny's in about an hour ... as usual! Now that my whirlwind time of showing my friends around Calgary and area is over I think I might be coming down with a cold ... grrrr!!! I thought I would steal cadoodlebug 's idea and post a few photos each day of all the places we went so that you are not bombarded all at once! Today will be the Yamnuska Wolfdog Sanctuary near Cochrane, Alberta ... the sanctuary provides a wonderful environment for surrendered and seized wolfdogs of all blood percentages ... some dogs have up to 80% wolf in them, others as low as 20% ... very few make good pets so they end up being euthanized or brought to facilities like this one. We came at the perfect time because they have a litter of low percentage puppies who are almost teenagers and these dogs LOVE people!!!! This visit was a definite "Bucket List" thing for me!!! I have a Hello Fresh delivery coming today so I might cook something from that for dinner ... How is everyone and their SO's feeling? What are your plans today? What is on your menu tonight? Have a great Saturday everybody!

I would love to see that wolf dog sanctuary. I love animals. I'm glad they have a home there. Enjoy your breakfast at Denny's leannec and enjoy a more relaxing day today. I just got out of the shower. I woke up and had coffee. A lot of coffee. But only 1/3 caffeinated. I'm weaning myself off caffeine. I'm also going to totally abstain from drinking for the next 7 weeks. I drank about 3 or 4 glasses of wine a week. So not a whole lot. But I want to see the difference. I have been really experiencing all manner of changes lately. I don't necessarily want to attribute everything to food choices. But I'll just say that I had some anxiety last weekend. I had a hard time with focus and sitting still which is to be expected. My therapist even validated the reason so it wasn't irrational anxiety and it wasn't bipolar fueled either as I did not have racing thoughts. But once that lifted, well I've been feeling markedly better. Mentally. It could be medicine. It could be food choices. It could be that my body feels better without cigarettes. I don't know but I'm not looking a gift horse in the mouth. So we will continue on. I plan to read today. I've already started this morning. I took Ellie for a walk. Ellie and I are going to walk twice a day. We both need a little exercise. We will walk again after dinner. I have like 4 different books going. I've got to finish something. I don't know yet what is for dinner. It depends on the ripeness of my produce. So I'll be back with better info later.

Wow leannec , those pictures are amazing! We're leaving to go on a walk soon ~ it's in the high 50's! Several days of cooler weather are a wonderful respite ~ yesterday I never had to turn on the A/C. We got our latest PG&E bill and were terrified it was going to be upwards of $1,000 ~ it was $471 so we were thrilled! Dinner is going to be grilled flank steak.

$471 would give me a heart attack cadoodlebug. My electric bill last month was nearly $200 and I was bitching. I keep my air set to 69 degrees too. Of course, my winter gas bill is around $200 too.

I just got back from my dog walk.....which is taking longer these days as my Gracie is really hurting, however she still gets excited when I ask her if she wants a "walkie" I just go at her pace, with lots of stops Anyway DH is out this morning at Todd's Farm...a giant flea market venue...He darn well better be selling some of that "stuff" he brought!! I am planning a bike ride, however I am currently enjoying the solitude of the quiet house.
I am working tonight so we will have pizza from our favorite place. DH will pick it up and I will reheat mine after my nap.

Very lazy day here. DH didn't sleep well at all and was feeling a bit dizzy when he got out of bed, and it was raining hard, so we decided to skip church for once. We had a family call because 'Sophia wanted to chat' and got several minutes of very silly Sophia, and a few Lucia cameos! The two bits of real information we got from Sophia were that they had all been to the nursing home to say thank you and goodbye to the staff there, and one of the nurses gave her some chocolate for 'being a good helper when she visited nonna' and that soccer had been so much fun, because it was muddy and she fell over and 'my pants got wet, even my undies!' I've been watching the Olympics - kayaking, archery, mountain bike riding today. Sadly missed the equestrian event I wanted to see, as got the channel and time wrong. As usual, I also got some knitting done while watching.
Dinner tonight is steak on the grill with coleslaw and maybe corn. It depends a bit how DH is feeling. He says he's much better for having a nap

Great photos, leannec. I'm curious about the mixed breeding and if people are deliberately crossbreeding? I was looking for the Canada-Greece mens basketball game yesterday and it wasn't included with the US Olympic coverage. DS watched some of the surfing and I'm sure we will have gymnastics on later. It is a lovely, cool morning here and I will go for a beach walk, think about dinner and stop at the farm store on the way home. Hopefully something will inspire me because so far I have no idea.

ntsf , prep day is no fun. Wishing you a normal, healthy result tmw. leannec , those are great photos. That looks like a wonderful way to spend the day. I miss your kitty shelter photos. jeremysgirl , you're making such healthy changes. You're a strong, amazing woman. Decaff doesn't taste any different than coffee, imho. cadoodlebug , can I have that doggie? He's so cute. Thank goodness your power bill wasn't $1k. $471 is bad enough. karenlou , did you ever watch Barbara Woodhouse on PBS? "WALKIES"! For those who've never heard of her she was the dog whisperer. Whenever I go for a walk I always announce in my high pitched Barbara Woodhouse voice that it's time for WALKIES. KelleeM , it's great that your ds is driving. Freedom is coming. sueg , little Sophia is such a happy and sweet child. She is very verbal, too. You have a bright little dgs. How are you doing? How is your ddil? I'm still really sleepy. Though dh feels fine. So, he put my office back together. I won't be able to put things away until I wake up. The bad thing is that I haven't practiced and my voice lesson is tmw. I'll make it a Zoom lesson, so that I'm not face to face w/my teacher.
Enjoy your beach walk bc2ca. It's so nice to have you back. **GypsyGirl** , how are things going over there? How is your husband doing? Enjoy today, my tribe. Bottoms Up, ntsf .

Our electricity rates are high because we're paying for all the lawsuits against PG&E because of fires they've started. Our bills have never been over $390 and we keep our A/C on 81-82 and hardly ever overnight. Most people are saying their bills have doubled so that's why we were happy relieved.

**GypsyGirl** , how are things going over there? How is your husband doing? Things are finally going very well! His doctor told him yesterday on rounds that he had finally turned the corner! Currently weening him off the steroids and insulin IV drip. Once that is done he will most likely be moved out of ICU to the regular floor where he can have more intensive PT. From there he will go to a rehab facility for a few weeks, which he is actually looking forward to because he knows from experience it means improved mobility. I spent most of yesterday catching him up on the news of the past month. Even when he seemed aware he just doesn't have much memory. Had no clue Biden had dropped out of the race! A huge thank you to all of you for your support, thoughts, prayers, messages over the past month. They have meant the world to me. There is still a ways to go until he is home again, but we are headed in the right direction now!

Good morning. I was going to make some stuffed French toast this morning and then realized I don’t have any fresh fruit to go on top so I am going to run to the store and grab some - I’m just going to wait a bit to head out and time it with a local vicarage flea market opening and swing by there and grab a small item I debated yesterday and didn’t get and if it’s still there I will grab it. If the sun comes out I’ll go for my 4 miles loop along the sound. Other that that, I am planning on crafting most of the day. Dinner will be cioppino and garlic bread.

It’s a hot humid day today. DH and I went for a bike ride before it got too hot. Home now and probably will do some stuff in the house to avoid the heat.
My mom and I have been taking care of DS’s dog and cats while they are away for the weekend. I’ve done it before so I showed my mom where all the food is, etc. I really noticed how her memory is going when she didn’t remember where the cat food was and that she needed to feed the barn cat. I went over last night after she had been there in the afternoon and the inside cat was outside!!
Supper will be grilled chicken breasts and thighs.

Great photos, leannec. I'm curious about the mixed breeding and if people are deliberately crossbreeding? That's exactly what has occurred ... losers who think it would be cool to have a wolf as a pet like a character does in Game of Thrones. Backyard breeders continue the operation and sell the puppies to other losers ... These dogs, even the ones with low wolf blood percentages, do not make good pets ... they are predators! They love getting treats like any other dog though! I miss your kitty shelter photos. Awwww! That was a fun time!

scrapmaven - DH is feeling better, but has decided against going on his planned 2 day work trip to Budapest tomorrow, which I think is sensible. I’m fine, still no symptoms of any kind. I am getting a bit nervous as we get closer to hospital admission, but I know it has to be done. Sophia is very advanced verbally. DS said her mid-year school report had a lot of positive comments on her verbal skills - contributes to class discussions, shares her ideas, shows leadership in groups etc. Lucia seems to have blossomed in this area on the past month or so as well. I think she just needs to be able to get a chance, with a big sister who is so advanced.

So you have it in you to practice a little today scrapmaven? cadoodlebug are you saying your electric company is starting fires? I'm not understanding. Maybe I have a fundamental misunderstanding about the fires. Yes, a lot of their equipment was old and would spark and cause fires in certain conditions. They have been working on the lines more recently and now use drones to try and identify problem area. Then they turn off power to those areas. Recently homes in our area have experienced outings (some because of faulty equipment). There have been some on our area who have lost power 3,4,5 times in the last month alone. We have been lucky. Knock on wood. One recent fire which is awful was caused by a guy who set his car on fire and pushed it into a very dry area. I believe that's the fire in Butte county which is so far the 4th worse in CA history. They should lock him up for the rest of his life.

and (I have the same utility as cadoodlebug--120 miles away).. they have to pay for causing the fires, then we are paying to upgrade the system, and we are paying to replace all the infrastructure that gets burned up.. lines to 100 plus homes and businesses are not cheap.. though at this point I don't know if the areas will ever be rebuilt. and the effects on drought.. cause a lot of our electricity comes from hydropower.. which is tough if you can't fill the reservoirs.

Ugh those electric bills are rough (and the fires are so sad). This might not be the time to mention last month we just had to pay the minimum billing for electric which is $20.00 We have solar now so it paying all our useage plus extra- even the AC (which we rarely have to use here in WA). We are getting credits for later use in the year when we won’t have as much sun so it should still be relatively low (I hope!).

Ducks head ... I pay almost $600 per month in condo fees but that covers my heat, water and electricity! It also takes care of the costs of maintaining lawns and trees and flowers outside and snow shoveling in the winter ... I consider it to be a great deal because I use a lot lot of electricity ... just bought a portable air conditioner! Yay!

InLive in an area that’s very close to the biggest electricity producer in the world yes that would be Niagara Falls. So our electricity cost is not high at all. This summer has been the hottest in a long time and my electric bill runs me about $90-$95 a month and That’s with my air conditioning set at 74 and a couple of fans running that move air around the house.
Another hot day here today spent a couple hours in the pool now I’m home trying to find something for dinner

So glad to hear the update on your DH, **GypsyGirl**. jeremysgirl, just a little more information on the reasons utilities are being held responsible for wildfires, is they often are triggered here during Santa Ana wind events when we have super low humidity and fast, hot winds coming from the desert. In rural areas the lines are overhead and fires get started when the wind knocks them to the ground and into the tinder dry brush. Fires can get out of control very quickly. The utilities will now turn off power (with notice) in these areas as a preventative measure. FWIW, we have solar and the last bill was -$78. We replaced our roof last winter and discovered one of our panels wasn't working. In calling around for a replacement, DH quickly figured out it made more sense to replace them all with upgraded, more efficient panels so we ended up without solar for a few months while he decided what to do. Our bill is trued-up in September and last year we paid less than $200 for the year. Dinner tonight is going to be fully loaded nachos with seasoned ground turkey, peppers, refried beans, cheeses, guac, salsa, crema, etc.
