I had read that Michael’s and Hobby Lobby were closing out their scrapbook sections.
A Michael’s manager just posted on the Scrapbook Addicts Facebook Group that they are doing a reset, but they are definitely NOT getting rid of their scrapbook section. Hopefully, the same is true of Hobby Lobby.

I think people panic every February and August when a lot of stores do resets. People get on FB and post that they are employees and know XY and Z and are still wrong. I have become skeptical. My Michaels had a designer section this year and it is the only stuff I bought from them this year. Mine just clearanced out all of the Thickers from those lines a few weeks ago.

I don’t get anything scrappy from either place anymore, but that would surprise me. I have not been to our best Michael’s in a while, so not sure if they got the designer stuff. From what I can tell, they never (or hardly ever) put stickers on sale (which I don’t buy there anyway.), which is one reason I don’t shop there. I also don’t like buy one get one half off sales.

My closest HL is pretty much down to 3 aisles, and now that thet have mostly gone to their brand, it is nothing I am interested in anyway. I think I been there once in the last year. Maybe two years. Getting rid of their coupon hasn't helped.
I went my Michaels the other day but it was only to get some metallic gold paper. I did not see any designer stuff and the clearance section was nothing papercraft related. I mean when I have gone to both stores there always seems to be someone with their kid looking at stickers or some of the paper. like for a school project. They must sell some stuff.

I do love going to HL when they put their seasonal glass framed artwork on 75-90% off. I got these three 14 x 14 frames for under $10 total. Just covered up the artwork with my photos.

I think people panic every February and August when a lot of stores do resets. I think this is true - and probably not helped by the shrinking space scrapbooking is taking up in the stores

I went to Michael’s a week or so ago and they had reset their scrapbooking section. What stood out to me was a much larger than previously We R area. They had cutting mats (glass and other materials) and score boards in many sizes. They also had a few different multihole punches (the big heavy ones). I didn’t spend a lot of time looking as I had actually found what I was looking for which wasn’t in the scrapbooking area. This store also had a ton of fabric!

Yes, I never checked the other two locations. Weird they put it at mine. I think mine is usually the worst for scrap stuff. It was also a few aisles away from the scrapbook stuff.

I have never seen any fabric in any M's around here.

Did they always have fabric? I have never seen any fabric in any M's around here. when we had one (it opened in 2016-ish and closed in 2020), it carried a little bit of fabric...about an aisle worth of precuts/prepackaged and a few notions. the website says select stores and has a search option www.michaels.com/fabric-store-list

I agree that people panic every time they do a reset, but sometimes you can get good deals during a reset. I rarely go to the craft stores anymore. My stash is more than sufficient and has better goodies than what I can find at the craft stores. I did get suckered this time. I was dumb enough to believe it because a Michaels store employee claimed that they were getting rid of their scrapbook section. Maybe it was hopeful thinking on her part. Some craft sections must be a pain to restock or reset.

Nancy, I couldn't find the designer section at your store. Maybe they sold it all?

Maybe they sold it all? Yes, anything that was left was moved back by the frames in the clearance section. I think all they had the last I saw was the Heidi Swamp Set Sail papers. (I am talking about Michaels, not HL.)

the michael's SB section is crappy now anyway. it went downhill after the pandemic and during the company's money troubles.
these stores should just rebrand the aisles as papercrafting and not so specifically scrapbooking since most people probably don't SB. it might get more customers engaged in the stuff there.

Their websites DO use “Papercrafting” as the main department name.
