artbabe, this is because you requested that we each start a thread, so here is mine: For those who don’t know how a paper arts store is different than a scrapbook store, a paper arts store carries more than just scrapbooking and card making supplies. For example, they usually carry home decor wood projects that you can dress up with the patterned papers, bling, and hardware that they also carry. They might focus more on junk journals than scrapbooking or card making, or at least give a significant section of the store to the wood and junk journal items. There is a great LSS that is an hour and half drive through a major city. I haven’t been there for awhile, so I don’t know if they have gone to more home decor and junk journal classes. I haven’t been able to get there since my DH became disabled during covid. A paper arts store opened that is only about a half hour drive from me, and the traffic isn’t nearly as bad. They are also close enough to Costco and Sam’s Club, that I can make it a profitable trip. I have made it there once, relatively recently. It ws definitely worth the trip to the paper arts store, but I had to limit what I could buy. I got some lovely things, though. It’s really nice to have the option of shopping for scrapping supplies at a brick and mortar store again, even if it is a bit of a drive. I’m not sure when they opened. I just did a google search recently out of curiosity, not expecting anything, and I was really excited when I saw their listing. Do you have any LSS or Paper Arts store to shop at?

Linda , that is sad. I assume you do at least some of your shopping online, then?

Linda , that is sad. I assume you do at least some of your shopping online, then? yes - I place the occasional order at ACOT, SG, and SB.com - DH is also quite good at finding pre-loved scrapbook items at yard sales, thrift stores, and flea markets so I have a good selection of older papers. I mostly get adhesive at HL now

I have a really good LSS less than a mile from where I work, but I don't go very often because I spend too much when I do! I do like going when I need something specific because their stock is really good and current. I really appreciate their supplies for local schools and for sports--if it's available, they have it.

Unfortunately, besides Michaels, the best we can do is a yarn store and a quilting and needlework store. I may have to start cross-stitch again just so I have a store to go to!

We have Craft Warehouse which sells yarn, fabric, and home decor and has a few aisles of scrapbook, stamping and planner stuff.
They carry Simple Stories, Photoplay, 49 and Market, Echo Park, and Lawn Fawn. They used to have a more cardstock, albums, stamps, and scrapbook stuff but removed a lot of it and squeezed the scrapbooking into less space so they could sell jigsaw puzzles.
There is a paper arts/art journal store in Beaverton (60 minutes to 2 hours round trip depending on traffic) or a very small LSS about 40 miles north in Longview.

Yes, about 3 minutes from me. It's dangerous to be that close!

Yes, about 3 minutes from me. It's dangerous to be that close! I used to be 7 minutes from a great one, and yes, that can be hard on the wallet!

Unless you count Paper Source, the closest one to me is a little over an hour away and one state to the north. I hear good things about it, but I haven't made it there.
There's one in the western part of my state -- about an hour and 20 minutes away. I don't know as much about this one but it's scrapbook/memory-keeping focused. Two hours away and one state south is another that I hear really good things about, which is much more of a paper craft in general sort of place, I believe.

The closest one is a little over an hour away, in a small city where I often have other errands to run. By often, I guess I mean every month or so.
The next closest one is 2 1/2 hours from here, about halfway from here to my ds’s, and near the Costco where I fill up with gas. I usually stop in on my way to or from a visit.

I'm so fortunate to have a great LSS (Frank Garcia Studio) about 20 minutes from home.

There are no LSS in this area anymore. The only paper craft stores are the 3 box stores - Michaels, Joanns and Hobby Lobby. When we first moved to this area, there were a couple of independent craft stores, fairly large. But they have all closed up. Now Walmart does carry a small supply of arts and crafts stuff, including wood decor things you can decorate. And Daiso does too. Paper Source, used to have a store locally, but they now sell their stuff inside of Barnes & Noble. They have a small selection of stuff, but mostly planners and calendars. There are also two fairly big art stores that do have some craft stuff.

No, and I never have, even when scrapbooking was having its heyday in the earlier 2000s.

We just had a place that Carrie’s scrapping supplies about 20 min away. I know they carry other things, but I’m not sure what. I haven’t been there yet, but will be there for an all day crop at the end of September.

My scrapbook store is less than a mile away, and I've walked to it before. It's a great store. I was on their design team for a while, also a good experience. I try to limit my visits to no more than once a month on average.
There is also a store about 30-45 minutes away, depending on traffic. It's out toward Pigeon Forge, which is a very touristy area. I haven't been there in a few years.

Wordfish - would you mind sharing a general idea of where your stores are located? I live in western North Carolina and we head into Tennessee now and then. We’re about 90 minutes out of Gatlinburg and Sevierville and enjoy doing the drive over. It would be great to have a store to go to!

I don't know about a paper art store.. but the closest sb store is about a hour or hour and half away. I just hit it up a few weeks ago. Spent a ton of money.. YIKES. All on 49 and Market.
I need to see if there is any paper art stores. I doubt it.
There are a couple of used craft stores in the area, but picking is pretty here and there.

Fortunately I have 2 within 14 miles of my house. One is less than a mile, but their selection is geared more towards card makers than scrapbookers, plus they also sell homemade goods like a craft fair. The traditional scrapbook store is about 14 miles away and fortunately or unfortunately the traffic on the freeway to get there is usually bad so I only go maybe once every couple of months. I also have a Michaels a mile away but I rarely go there.

Kind of - I have a craft distributer at the other end of my town - they import and distribute all sorts of craft supplies to independent retailers across Canada. They have a warehouse that we can shop at that stocks all the stuff they didn't sell to the independents, like if the Indies order 10 of something but the wholesaler had to buy a lot of 12 from the manufacturer.
They've created an LSS and card making supply store in the front of their warehouse, so you can just shop in that more boutique-y looking area, or you can wander off into the warehouse part if you want feathers or sequins or wood pieces or beads or acrylic paints or all the things sold to elementary schools for seasonal craft days. So, you can find anything for any type of craft or art, including junk journal stuff.
They hold card making classes but not junk journal or scrapbooking, though.
It's a 45 minute drive for me from home, but only 20 minutes from work, but their hours are terrible - they close at 5 on the 3 weekdays that they're open, and then 10-4 on Saturdays, so I only get out there about once a year.

Yes, about 3 minutes from me. It's dangerous to be that close! I would be in so much trouble if I lived that close. She stocks so many 49 and Market and a few of my other favorite brands. I know I can get a lot of it cheaper online, but I do like helping stay in business.

I have a store about 20 minutes away, which is pretty lucky for an Australian scrapbooker. I used to shop there quite often but more and more they are stocking brands I'm not keen on like Paper Rose and Uniquely Creative. They also stock a lot of mixed media things that don't interest me. The prices are really high too. Most paper is at least $2 per sheet. With the brands I prefer, like Simple Stories and American Crafts, they tend to get the paper packs rather than loose sheets. This is why most of my shopping these days is from sb.com.

in Houston, we have Texas Art Supply. They are a full on art supply store but they also have a wide scrapbook supply inventory along with other crafts.
We also have the Little Sticker Store that sells planner supplies and some scrapbook supplies.
The LSS are in surrounding cities about 45+ minutes away.

No, we lost all of our lss several years ago and all we have left are Michaels, Hobby Lobby, & JoAnn's (although our Js leaves much to be desired). The closest lss is about 70 miles away so I hardly ever get to visit it. I have noticed in their newsletters that they have started carrying more "arty" type supplies. It makes good business sense I guess.

other than the big box stores, we don't have any LSS anymore. i really miss them because they were so fun to browse through to see the new releases. but commercial rent is too high around here and LSS just can't sustain themselves like they used to. with lots of SB'ers being the in purge stage rather than the buying stage of their lives, not enough money is being spent to sustain brick and mortar stores. at least around here.

I wish. I do have a Hobby Lobby but it’s not quite the same thing. There’s Stamp Fever about 20 minutes from me. It’s a small store and mostly they sell Lawn Fawn items. I love Lawn Fawn for card making but I bought a bunch of stuff at the LF warehouse. Frank Garcia Studio is a little over an hour. Still haven’t been up there. There’s also a Dick Blick art supply store half an hour away. Great store. And every color of Copic pens.

My city has a nice variety of options:
- LSS, almost closed but was bought and kept open - Local store that caters to all crafts, needle arts, art, cake decorating, quilting, candy making, Christmas decor and Dept 56 villages. They are also a party supply, Halloween costume & decor, various holiday decor, Halloween take over more than other holidays. They have an attached restaurant with cinnamon rolls as big as your head. For Halloween, they put a Halloween scare house in the parking lot. - Michael's - Joann's - Hobby Lobby - Blick Art Supplies

There is nothing very close to me. One is 40 minutes away but they don’t carry my style of product. There’s another that is about an hour away. They have. Better selection but they never carry the whole collection! So I always need to order some online to supplement what I buy there. They have a great collection of dies though so those are nice to see in person too. I don’t go often as there’s nothing in the area that I really need to go to.
