I have been scrapping since 2000 My kids are now grown and flown and I am partially retired so I have plenty of time to scrap when I want Surpisingly I find myself needing and reaching for less and less supplies. I still love to look at all the new things but I find myself ,surprisingly, purging more than I thought I would I thought I would need E.V.E.R.Y.T.H.I.N.G. now but I don’t really anyone else?

I definitely need to get rid of some supplies. I've been scrapbooking the past year with the tiniest portion of my overall accumulation, and for the most part, it's all been fine. I did go searching for my holiday papers in July, but beyond that, I'm not missing everything that's still packed up.
I am absolutely a paper person---I just don't use a lot of embellishments. So those will be where I start with my downsizing.

I purged quite a bit awhile ago and it's been good. Now saying that I still have enough for a couple of lifetimes. lol.. Then my elderly mom is not dabbling anymore so I am bringing some of her stuff home with me after I visit her.. so slowly stuff has been creeping back in. I am trying to be very selective in what I bring back. But some of it holds memories.. blah!

Like you all, I have done several purges through the years and do try to be more selective in what I buy these days. But paper is pretty much impossible to resist.

I downsized (again) earlier this year - I was more ruthless than ever and got rid of so much: - Amount half of my thickers - fell of the backing sheet, few letters, or just don't like anymore
- Patterned paper - mostly leftovers from collections
- Almost all my scraps
- Cardstock (weird colors and/or had faded edges)
- Random embellishments like left over wooden buttons or those MME cards with brads & buttons
- Die cuts from kits I knew I wouldn't use
- Stamps
I still need to go through my washi tape, the cardstock some more and 12x12 sticker sheets. There's way too much of these for the amount of times I use them. I might move all the stickers I want to keep to a new backing sheet and get rid of what I won't use. Luckily, I don't get too much FOMO with the new collections except for Vicki Boutin. Her stuff is my kriptonite. Ha!

I got rid of a bunch of loose paper, paper pads, and embellishments (so many best day evers...) over the last two years on my local Buy Nothing so there isn't a ton to purge. But I am looking at a pile of paper pads that were gifts last Christmas that are not even close to my style and I'm thinking it's time to make another listing...

I've done a couple of major purges and now I'm down to a manageable size, but still have enough stuff to scrapbook for the next 30 years. I sold a bunch of stuff at my LSS's flea market and they give a gift certificate for your sales and I had a very hard time using up my gift certificate before it expired. I've tried to use more products on my layouts and cards but I'm such a simple scrapper I too reach for less stuff to create.

i am inundated with supplies i will never be able to use. i sold off a lot at a lss garage sale but there is plenty more. i’m selling more in some facebook groups and on ebay.
my purchasing has slowed down immensely. i really want to use the treasures i’ve been saving all these years.

I've lost interest in scrapbooking other than a few specialty albums (Hawaii vacation, daughters wedding) and have moved on to cardmaking. I am in the process of what I call "The Great Purge" and donating to a local crafty thrift store and posting on Buy Nothing pages. I also suffer from FOMO - Fear of Missing Out and have always purchased all the things for any hobby I have. It's rough in my craft room right now!

I haven't scrapped in years. My scrap room is now a craft/art room, and I moved all the things that I would use only for scrapping out of there. Most of my scrapbooking supplies are boxed up and stored in the room we use as an office. I truly don't remember what is in those boxes. Yet I keep them because one day, I'll finish all my projects.

In general, I love the scrapbook products in my stash, and have NO desire to downsize for the reason of "I have too much". I believe in >> "there's no such thing as too much", when it comes to *my* scrapbook stash.
With the above said....I do occasionally get rid of product for a specific reason, but that reason is NOT downsizing or because I have too much.....the reason is >> I don't like it, I don't like it anymore, I won't use it, not my style, etc...
Immediately gone through and discarded within a few days of purchase or receiving as a gift: Product that was gifted to me. Paper pads (as long as I like 50%+ of a paper pad, I will purchase a pad), I discard the paper I don't like. Product that is part of a pre-assembled kit. Alphabets that no longer have enough letters to form a word. Sticker sheets, embellishment and ephemera packages. I cut up or sort all random and assorted products. Themed products, I leave as is.
Once or twice a year I do a go through, and some "why did I buy that?" or some of the "I no longer like that" products get discarded.

I've significantly slimmed down my scrapbook spending - it's primarily adhesive, albums, page protectors, white/black cardstock at this point. I have enough - probably more than enough tbh. Like ScrapbookMyLife - I generally don't purge to downsize. I do pull stuff out of my stash when I'm flipping through papers or embellishments and realise I'll never actually use something or if an alpha sticker isn't usable in a practical way for me (I don't care to mix and match in my titles). I did a significant purge/downsize of my SVGs and printable etc...from the computer not terribly long ago and I'm being much more "mindful" of what I download going forward and I plan to go through the folders periodically and clean them up again I am waiting to finish up a few themes - school, childhood, Girl Scouts...as my youngest will be 18 in about a month - and then donate/trash whatever supplies I have left that won't repurpose elsewhere.

I have been putting aside tons of PL kits to sell at my LSS' yearly garage sale. It feels so good to downsize those. There are so many that I love, but that just don't 'go' with anything that I scrap. I'm finally facing up to that and getting rid of them. (If anyone wants any, let me know. I probably have 75% of the kits!)

I love that you're focused on what you are enjoying, what you reach for and enjoy Sometimes I think we buy a lot when we're not able to craft because we can't accurately predict what we will want or need when we have more time and energy. We figure we better get it all because it won't be available later, and it's lovely, and when we have time we're going to wish I had this. Humans just aren't very good at predicting the future! And rightfully so. Our lives and our minds are changing all the time. Yay for having time to enjoy what you have

I am an empty nester, stay at home wife. We downsized our home by 50% last year so I did a major purge then. Since then, I have not bought a ton. I have figured out that I really don't use stickers unless they are alphabets, I don't use thick embellishments. For the most part, I have got my scrappy storage the way I love, and if I want to bring more in, then I will have to get rid of something else.

I just went through all my 12 x 12, 6 x 6, and 6 x 8 paper and cardstock. I had about 12 inches of purged papers that I've given away to the senior centers where I teach. I've been bringing it in a little at a time, because all that paper is HEAVY. Next are the 8 1/2 x 11 paper & cardstock and Project Life cards.

Omg this is timely. My scrap room was a shared spare bedroom and has recently become solely my scrap room. Today I finally got around to organizing and setting it up. I definitely have a lot of stuff. I was actually kind of embarrassed by the amount of DD supplies I already have and I purchased a butt load yesterday. I can’t believe how many albums I have unused or unopened. Ridiculous! Lots of Becky higgins 12x12 albums and I haven’t done that size in years. Ugh. They take up a lot of space. Anyway I really just need to get creating but my time is limited. I have small kids so if I don’t want something anymore I give it to them or their teachers. They love it. Also I’m finding new uses for old stuff since my daughter is in school and has projects to make.

I’m holding off purging again until I get all those pictures on my phone printed. Once most of them are scrapped I think a good amount of paper and embellishments will be finding it’s way into other donation box.

Yay for having time to enjoy what you have This reminded me of a scrapbook group I was in with a no buy challenge - I can't remember if it was for 30 days or make 30 layouts. Something like that. There was one person in the group who went into a shopping frenzy buying all the things just in case she needed something she didn't have including a Hawaiian/tropical themed collection for when she scraps pictures of her Hawaiian vacation she wants to go on one day. It was so funny to me that she bought things she did not need/could not use in preparation for a relatively short spending freeze.

Haha, I also did what my husband and I refer to as "The Great Purge" back in 2016 or so. My only regret is that I got rid of some books that I now wish I could reread, but nothing major. I did the purge in the midst of a bit of depression, which was good and bad - I got rid of more than I would have otherwise, but it also helped me to let go of stuff that I really needed to but which I would have had a harder time saying goodbye to normally. I just did a mini-purge again - I have about 5 boxes of supplies that I'll sell on Kijiji. My scraproom feels so light and airy and clean right now, but I, too, suffer from FOMO, so I feel your pain.

I had to clean out my craft room last month to get it painted. As I putting things back I did a reasonably ruthless purge and got rid of things I knew I would not use. Still have a lot of supples but at least it's a bit more manageable!

I got rid of basically an SUV/minivan-storage-area amount of stuff last spring. I think I still have more to get rid of, but I also reconfigured my space and I have room for everything plus some extra room at the moment--or at least, I think I do. I haven't finished my studio reorg and there's a mess of stuff in the spare bedroom up here that I need to go through and put away. I often enjoy working through challenges during my creative time, so how I work tends to change up. Example: Sometimes I will challenge myself to grab an old (sometimes very old) kit and make 5 things with it before I toss the rest or put anything particularly good that was not used in with the general stuff. Or I will grab a stack of photos and work through them with either a specific set of supplies or quite often "anything within reach of my work space." I actually really enjoy that challenge. Sometimes I have participated in group challenges, something like "use buttons on a layout." Or I will find a layout either in a YT video share or maybe on Pinterest and try to recreate it with what I have. Because I often enjoy doing things like that, I try to only get rid of things I actually dislike--for example, things that came in a kit or collection that I never would have chosen on their own. I used a whole lot of stuff that I had been giving the side eye to (cardstock in a color I don't usually keep on hand, themey patterned paper) for a couple of baby showers this summer. I'm so glad I had that on hand, and it was a pleasure to grab and use it on the spur of the moment. I probably burned through 50 sheets of cardstock that I had been dithering on whether I really needed to hang onto it. Other than some one-offs in kits, I mainly only keep white/cream/kraft/black and some red on hand these days when it comes to 12x12 cardstock; somehow this little stack had made it through prior culls. I also think about how much the cost of this stuff has jumped in the last few years. That's not a prime consideration, as you can always find deals or buy at yard sales/marketplace etc, but I do think about it and tend to factor that in when I contemplate getting rid of things. I came across a quote by this guy named Umberto Eco, whose claim to fame seems to be that he owned 50,000 books -- he was also a novelist and historian. It's a long quote but I think worth sharing. I'll try to bold the part that is particularly relevant for this discussion: Umberto Eco, who owned 50,000 books, had this to say about home libraries: "It is foolish to think that you have to read all the books you buy, as it is foolish to criticize those who buy more books than they will ever be able to read. It would be like saying that you should use all the cutlery or glasses or screwdrivers or drill bits you bought before buying new ones. " There are things in life that we need to always have plenty of supplies, even if we will only use a small portion."If, for example, we consider books as medicine, we understand that it is good to have many at home rather than a few: when you want to feel better, then you go to the 'medicine closet' and choose a book. Not a random one, but the right book for that moment. That's why you should always have a nutrition choice! "Those who buy only one book, read only that one and then get rid of it. They simply apply the consumer mentality to books, that is, they consider them a consumer product, a good. Those who love books know that a book is anything but a commodity."
