Putting this out there because there are quite a number of southern CA peas. abc7.com/post/search-underway-missing-colton-couple-dan-stephanie-menard-dog-cuddles/15236722/REDLANDS, Calif. (KABC) -- Authorities are searching for an Inland Empire couple and their dog who have been missing since Saturday. Stephanie and Daniel Menard were last seen Saturday morning leaving their home at the Olive Dell nudist ranch in the 26000 block of Keissel Road in Redlands, according to the Redlands Police Department. A friend reported them missing the next day. "There's just nothing. Not even anything to go off of right now," the couple's friend Sandy Marinelli said. "It's very concerning because this is not normal for them at all." Their vehicle was found unlocked down the road from their home Sunday. Stephanie's purse was found inside the home and both of their cellphones were also found at their home. Their dog, a small white shih tzu named Cuddles, is also missing. "There's no way that Stephanie or Dan could have walked away from that car," friend Tammie Wilkerson said. "She has a cane. It was at home, her purse, their cellphones - things they would never have left at home." Daniel Menard suffers from dementia and is diabetic, police say. Friends say the couple, who is part of a possible lawsuit against the ranch, was being harassed and fear that may have had something to do with their sudden disappearance. The couple is very active in their church and in the Olive Dell community. "They're very sweet people. There's not a mean bone in their body at all, which makes this very confusing," Wilkerson said. Anyone with information is asked to contact Redlands police at (909)798-7681 or Detective Thomas Williams at twilliams@redlandspolice.org. Please reference case No. 240032075

I hadn't seen this story yet.
My first thought is one of both had some sort of medical crisis. With his dementia, I wonder if he disappeared on her and she quickly went after him. This would sort of explain leaving everything behind.

This would sort of explain leaving everything behind. Their car was found down the street, unlocked. Her cane was in the home and she has pretty bad MS and is never without it. Bloodhounds found nothing nor have any searches. I could see the heli doing aerial and know of someone who was on an ATV looking in the remote areas with a team. Having zero sign is what is throwing everyone off.

I saw that. It’s so strange. I keep hoping for a good outcome but it’s looking worse each day. So sad.

I saw this on the news last night. There are so many questions. I’m guessing there won’t be a good outcome either.

This sounds quite suspicious. I wonder just how much of a concern this couple could be to the other side of the lawsuit. They sound like they are a pretty mild-mannered elderly couple and of no tremendous threat to anyone. I hope they are found soon.

ETA I think she will be found very close to home. The area looks pretty isolated with canyons and brush to crawl under. It makes me think of the search for the British doctor in Greece this summer. It took 4 days to find his body even with aerial searches.

Yes, I understand that. But they are somewhere. There is no evidence of a robbery or altercation. The most likely answer is they walked away from the home. Wandering is something so common to dementia and if she went after him thinking it would only be a minute, maybe that she only needed to call him back and was ignored, and continued to follow, then got in trouble it makes sense to me. When talking about this earlier DD questioned whether they were wearing clothes. If not, I don't know if they would survive the first night. Scent dogs have the highest success rate if used within hours. If it was Monday before they were used I'm not surprised they didn't pick up a scent.

Their vehicle was found unlocked down the road from their home Sunday. Stephanie's purse was found inside the home and both of their cellphones were also found at their home. This sounds so much like the case of the missing McStay family in Fallbrook. The family were later found murdered. Their home was left as if they had just stepped out, with food left on the counters. I think even the mom's glasses were still on the counter. Their car was found abandoned at the border. There were no indications of a struggle or altercation at their home. I hope nothing bad has happened to them and they are found.

I wonder if the dog got snatched by a coyote or something and they ran out to look for it, and then got lost. How horrible.

They told friends who reported that it hasn't been long enough. I'm sorry what??!! If an elderly person or persons aren't where they should be and they had medical needs, it should be placed immediately. And another bad oops, family is just now finding out. 😱

She wouldn’t wouldn’t have gotten far without the cane. That is awful that family members are only finding out they are missing.

I am wondering (which other skilled in missing persons people would know)...If they were nude, would there be less scent for the dogs? I see shows/reports and it always shows the dog being given clothing to sniff to find the humans. In this case, whatever clothing they wore would not have much scent (it seems to me) because the the clothes were not worn often, or for very long. Perhaps I am off in my knowledge, but if they were nudist, then they would only wear clothing when going on errands (grocery shopping for example) so the clothing might not have much scent.
With her mobility problems, it sounds like a search by humans (who walk almost beside one another) and cover a circle of a mile or two from the home might turn up their bodies (I am presuming death since a week has gone by).

They are now doing foot walk searches along Reche Canyon which is a long winding sparse area. The ATVs didn't get anything but they went further out into hard to reach places. Their car was 3/8 of a mile from home.

So many questions. Anyone know what they were sueing the Ranch for? My best guess is the lawsuit has something to do with them being missing. The fact they were already being harassed about it makes me think someone doesn't want the lawsuit moving forward.

The fact they were already being harassed about it makes me think someone doesn't want the lawsuit moving forward. The original owners sold the ranch and the new company isn't very involved. Some are saying there is an increase in crime in that area, things aren't being fixed or taken care of, etc. I guess residents tried to get restraining orders against each other for but the judge denied them all. Something fishy happened.

And another bad oops, family is just now finding out. 😱 This is horrifying. If they were nude, would there be less scent for the dogs? Good question. The only time I've been close to a search using scent dogs LEO wanted dirty socks as the best scent source but the person had done their laundry the night before so they took a pillow case. I also think they need to be doing an on foot, super close together search especially for her. Dementia walkers can easily go miles in a few hours as we discovered with my mom, but this woman couldn't. So many questions. Anyone know what they were sueing the Ranch for? My best guess is the lawsuit has something to do with them being missing. The fact they were already being harassed about it makes me think someone doesn't want the lawsuit moving forward. From the little I could find, it looks like a large number (maybe even all?) community members were suing the management group. The weird thing is it looks like plaintiffs were numbered anonymously and not named in the court filing.

I could see where you might not want the world to know that.

What is even more interesting/bizarre is that on a local community page on FB people are either stating that yes there is increase in crime and there are issues or no there isn't, stop spreading lies. And it's between people that live there.
Something is up.
There was even a niece or some family member to the couple saying they didn't live at the nudist colony but their address is there.

Reading some of the google/yelp reviews that were posted before this couple came up missing lead me to believe that yeah, there was problems.

It looks like there was a history of trouble at that ranch. I found an older lawsuit, 2017, regarding the two brothers, Robert and Ronald, sons of the original owners of the nudist ranch. When the parents passed, they left the ranch equally to the two sons in a trust and that profits from the facility were to be shared equally between the two of them. Then I guess one brother, Robert, had the other brother, Ronald kicked out and he and his wife were running the place, but not doing a good job of it. They claimed there was no profit to share so no money was owed to the brother. Ronald sued to have Robert removed because he wasn’t operating the ranch as a business and was failing to generate any profits. There is a restaurant on the property that was supposedly not making a profit, although some of the proceeds of the restaurant were being used to pay child support payments. And the wife of the brother living there was keeping the books for the place, although she had no bookkeeping experience and never even graduated high school. In that lawsuit, the judge said Robert, the brother running the place, had a fiduciary responsibility to run the place as a business, generating a profit because he was not the only brother in the trust. He was required to try to make a profit that would be shared with the other brother. The judge ordered that Robert, the brother living there was to be removed as trustee and replaced with a professional because he was not running the facility in the correct manner, as a business. Robert appealed, but lost the appeal. www.metnews.com/articles/2017/kilborn101117.htmI haven’t found the lawsuit from people living there yet but will keep looking. I am thinking that when the replacement trustee came in, he tried to generate a profit, as was required by law, and that he might have increased fees, angering the residents. That is just a guess as to why the residents were in a lawsuit with management. It all sounds like an awful mess, but I still don’t see why the missing couple would have been singled out and harmed. Off to search more. *I found another lawsuit filed by Robert and his wife Becki, against the new management group operating the ranch after Robert was removed for not running the place as a business. The couple are suing the new managing group for breach of contract. This was filed in May, 2024. Still looking for a lawsuit by residents.

That seems odd also. Is this the home of the missing couple? Can’t they just enter through the front door? Surely they have someone who can pick a lock, if it actually locked. Ramming out a window like this seems like an odd thing to do. I have seen the police knock down doors, well on television, but not use a ram to take out a window. And haven’t they been reporting that the wife’s cane and purse and cell are inside the house? Wouldn’t that mean that at least someone has access to it?

When the swat vehicle (that my city paid a freaking button load for) was at the house you could see the big metal grate in front of it. Now PD is using it as a shield last video I saw. x.com/KTLA/status/1829281702935695679

Ok, this is a different home. Breaking into the window to gain a visual makes sense now. Especially if there is someone home who is refusing to answer their door. I wonder how the police learned about the occupant of this house and whether or not they are related to the disappearance of the couple and their little dog.
