I actually started gluing some paper on paper that isn't cards - :-) This series of pictures made me laugh - probably because it wasn't my hand! IMG_20240908_104504210 by CLAUDIA LOVELESS, on Flickr

Wow. Everyone is so BUSY this month! Every time I think I am anywhere near caught up, I see a bunch more creations I hadn't seen. Will head off to Flickr in a minute to ogle your pages, gramma.

Thank you grammadeeCute layouts gramma - love the teeth and the teeth paper! The arrows surrounding Darek's photos are awesome! I especially like those bunny feet but both Easter layouts are so pretty

No scrapping for me today. We drove into the city for DD17's Girl Scout meeting and ran errands during it. I did stop into Michaels and got an autumn colours Hot Buy pad of cardstock - I do like the weight and texture of the CraftSmith cardstock and 4.99 was a decent price, imo. I do miss when they carried the monochromatic hot buy cardstock pads - they were such a nice easy way to restock reds or blues or...

I'm thinking I might only scrap on the weekends. Then if I have any time during the week I can read or maybe knit. I have been posting my Sketchtember layouts in those threads, but not here or in the sharing thread. Do you share your creations in multiple places? Week two of classes has started. The beginning of the year is always hectic. gramma those layouts turned out so well! I love the teeth.

justjac I do share in the sharing thread because I like having them all in one place for counting purposes. I share on the sketch threads because I feel like the hosts like to see what we do with their sketches. And I share here because nylene asked me to

Hoping to scrap today - I have all the pieces to a layout on my desk.
We had Open House at DD17's school last night. There were so few parents, it was really sad. I had noticed last year that there were only a handful in each class and this year, even less. We only saw 4 of her 6 teachers - 2 weren't there. The Calculus teacher had prior committments with her kids (fair enough) and DD had her in 10th grade so I've met her before. The English teacher? I think he just doesn't DO open house - DD24 had him in 11th and 12th grade and he wasn't there for open house then either. I really liked her Biology teacher - she seems like she had a really good handle on keeping bright, easily bored students engaged and she's super enthusiastic. The other three teachers we already know well - DS had one of them, DD24 had all three, and DD17 has had all before also plus they are all coaches for her Academic Team. We were the only parents there for DD's block for two of them and there was just one other mum for the 3rd. There were a few more for Bio but that class has a lot of freshman.
I suspect it didn't help that more than half the students stayed home yesterday after the school shooting threat over the weekend even though they had already identified and arrested the 13 (!) year old who made the threat. And then there was a second threat during the school day at the other high school - the School Resource Officer recognised the social media account and the 17 y/o student was arrested there. I'm guessing classes will be pretty empty today as well since there was a third threat last night (also the other high school though) - a 14 y/o has been arrested this morning for that one.

Linda , I am so sorry your area is being plagued with school shooting threats. This has become intolerable. I wish Congress would get sick of it and pass some national gun laws. But I am not holding my breath. I heard on the news that throughout the US we are having 2 mass shootings each day. I think of the parents of the Japanese exchange students that we have hosted so many times. I'm not sure if I lived outside the US that I would allow my child to be an exchange student here. justjac , if your projects are posted in the gallery I find them. I love seeing work posted on this thread, but that's one more step for you. You can decide whether to post here or not. I try to get on the team thread, but I hate to comment on just Pokey Pea's work, but can't keep up with the whole thread. I can usually keep up with Pokeys in the gallery, but Linda doesn't post there so I have asked if she would post here. You can make that choice. Good luck with your 2nd week of school. gramma , I love your pages. They always have the cutest title blocks and beautiful layered elements and titles. You have love in the gallery. grammadee , thanks for setting up the Sketchtember. I'm not on a team, but am printing and putting photos together for some of the sketches. You do so many good things for this site. Thank you for your kindness. kellyr21 , I see on the news that it is HOT in southern CA. Are you feeling that heat or has it cooled a bit where you are. I think of you every time I see those red section on the weather map. I am leaving for Card Club this morning. It will just be a couple of hours, not all day like our last two meetings. It's always fun to visit in person with this group. I got a call that they want to move my surgery up 2 days and he wants me to go to the hospital rather than the surgical center. DH and my family feel much better about that. In case I am unsteady on my feet afterward, they can just admit me. DH and DSIL watched this particular surgery online and both were surprised that it is a same day surgery. So it is now 2 weeks from today.

So glad you are getting to go out and play with your friends IRL, today, nylene. Something to keep your mind off your upcoming surgery. I like the idea of it being in the hospital so they can admit you if needed. That is a real comfort. Really rooting for this surgery to FIX that shoulder! Linda, I "liked" and ran on the Team chat cuz I started a couple of responses to the threats at your dd's school, but thought those were better said on a political thread on NSBR. As a baby boomer, I grew up in constant fear that the USSR was going to nuke us. No hiding under the desk drills for us, but I remember lying in bed in the early morning while my dad had the national news on, and then hearing an airplane flying overhead and being certain that this would be the time we were all blown up by "the enemy". So sad that now your kids can't trust their friends or neighbours or classmates not to blow them away with a gun. No wonder people are avoiding open houses and many schools are just not holding them anymore. I guess another reason for the open house poor attendance is that parents as well as kids can now have all the social contact they need on line. When my kids were in school, these events were a chance to meet and interact with people in the neighbourhood. I have been loving all the activity on so many threads this month. Counted my points yesterday, and in nine days I had seen and commented on 65+ posts! Keeping up with the sketches has been fun, but not sure it is sustainable. Have an idea for my sample for next Sunday, but need to go out and take some photos for it. (Spoiler alert--It will be the cover page for my FALL album) Glad the last couple of sketches have been one pagers that--at least in my head--I can combine into one LO. How is your recovery coming, gramma? Just spoke to my ddil, who had surgery last week. She is hoping to get the pathology results later this week. Really hoping they "got it all". I wish I had sent her something to occupy her time. She is very creative, but I think with all the stress of waiting, she will not be much into that. Maybe I will send her an Apple gc so she can order some light books to read... Dh has been having alot of hip pain this last week. We had a case conference with the GP yesterday and she STILL REFUSES TO RECOMMEND THAT HIS URGENCY SHOULD MOVE HIM HIGHER ON THE PRIORITY LIST FOR ASSESSMENT. Dd has set up a conference call with the Doctor who heads up Caregivers' Centred Care in Alberta to work on a strategy to get around this doctor. Dd suggests we should write a letter to Alberta Health Services central booking, and then alert the physician. I agree we should write the letter, but would like to give the GP the opportunity to send a letter in support. Wouldn't hold our letter back waiting for her to support it, but I would like to give her the opportunity to be part of the process. Gotta go. Zoom call starts in 15 minutes.

I wish I had sent her something to occupy her time. She is very creative, but I think with all the stress of waiting, she will not be much into that. I am one very lucky woman! My GP insisted that I get a mamogram as I hadn't had one in several years. The spot that was found was very small but they moved quickly from mamo to ultrasound to biopsy to surgery. The entire thing was removed and the report came back that they had gotten it all. So, for me, no chemo and no radiation. Because of the type and size the chances of a repeat over the next 15 years is 3%. I didn't have an extreme amount of pain and the binder thing was the worst part. So - I know it's not fun - but get those Mammies grammed ladies! Maybe I will send her an Apple gc so she can order some light books to read...
If she has an Amazon account she can download books - there are a boatload of free ones. I read them on my tablet

nylene - I'm glad they've moved your surgery to the hospital. I'll be praying all goes smoothly for you. Enjoy card club! grammadee - I'm so sorry that your DH's GP isn't helping. I think your DD has a good plan. Hopefully things will start moving in a good direction for him soon. Prayers for your DDIL as she waits for results. Thanks all for 'listening' to my venting.

Happy Tuesday! Hope you all are having a good day. Are you all gonna watch ScrapFest? I plan on seeing some of it. I have enjoyed the ones in the past. Yes, nylene, it has been HOTTTT out here but today feels a little cooler and we are fine. DH's office at work is still so cold, he has his heater on. LOL! I still sending prayers for you and your upcoming medical stuff.

grammadee I'd be reporting that doctor to higher authority. Does she give any reason at all for not moving him up? she said she can’t “unload all her geriatric cases to them”, and she didn’t see any symptoms she thought needed urgency. I told her I had observed such a downward slope in the past six months that if the trajectory continued he would be dead. She replied “”That’s just your opinion” We are composing a letter to Alberta Health and copying her.

kellyr21, thanks for the well wishes. I hope you enjoy Scrapfest. I may hop on some of it. Glad you are getting some cooler weather. grammadee, we did have hide under desks a couple of times when US USSR tensions were high. My whole growing up years I was panicked about a plane dropping bombs. I would duck if I heard a plane overhead. Even today, if a low crop-duster comes in over me, I get a panicked feeling for a minute. But that is nothing like what our kids now have to fear. I'm glad your DIL is doing well. Praying for her results to be "got it all". I hope that the meeting helps to move your DH along toward a hip replacement. Waiting just to get the evaluation seems so long and then the wait for the actual surgery. Waiting is never easy! gramma, so glad you are doing well. It would take a lot to keep you from your fun, spunky self. You have such a great attitude. Card Club was fun and we sat and talked an hour afterwards. It's so nice to get together with these friends. I look forward to the debate tonight and hope that it will solidify those who are still undecided about the election. I worry about our nation!!

In better news, we now have a consult with a hip surgeon. The dr's receptionist is a gem. When I phoned her to check on where to call to find out where we were on the waiting list for that, she offered to make the call. Then she called back with an appointment for dh. Pretty sure she did that on her own. You know the dr's office is named on caller ID, so she must have used that to push a little.

Good Morning Pokeys! Whew the past few days has been such a blur I never know if I'm coming or going lol. Linda I'm so sorry to hear about all the shooting threats. They arrested a 14 year old here for making threats too. It's as though the shooting in GA has set something off in these young teens. nylene I'm so glad they have moved your surgery up a bit and man I hope it goes well and you are able to use your shoulder again. It sounds like a lovely time at card club. I'm cautiously hopeful for our country, for the first time in a long time. grammadee that's good news that they are moving DH up the list! What a terrible attitude by the Dr. justjac I just post in the sketch thread usually, and sometimes I'll put the same LO in the big sharing thread. gramma you've been busy! I love the bold colors and arrows on Derek makes four, and that is an awesome title too. I haven't scrapped much, just enough to finish my sample for tomorrows sketch. I've lost track of things here this week and there are several sketches I still need to check out. My plan right now is to crop Friday night. I don't think work will interfere this time. Speaking of work, there is so much to do this week that the days are flying by! And I'm not complaining about it haha! DS2 and I are going to grab some take out Thursday and he wants to come meet Bess and get all of his paperwork in order to apply to get his license back. It was suspended for a DUI related incident several years ago. He's sober and stable enough in his life and wants to continue to move it forward. Right now this seems like a monumental task and obstacle for him, so we'll do it together. (plus he can't make any excuses for not getting it done ) Bess is starting to settle in, and is finally starting to eat. She hasn't eaten a whole lot since she got here and hasn't shown interest in any of the wet food I've tried her with. I was getting concerned, but her appetite started improving yesterday. She's so playful and yet calm enough that I can work without worrying what she's into, and her personality is starting to peek out. I'm very attached already, I think the jury is still out for her lol.

That is good news joyfulnana - It does take a bit for rescue animals to feel truly comfortable and at home but it sounds like Bess is doing well. Hoping for another sneak peek on Friday Good news about your DS2 - that's a big step forward. I tried scrapping last night during the debate but ended up just watching. Hopefully I can finish that layout up today. It really just needs adhering and embellishing.

grammadee that's good news that they are moving DH up the list! What a terrible attitude by the Dr. This is not for the surgery. It is just for the consult with the surgeon. There will be another waiting period after that, but hopefully the deterioration of the hip joint will put him fairly high on that wait list.

grammadee my mom has a consult with a surgeon next week about the one hip she didn't already get replaced. We're hoping she will get on the list, too, because when she got her other one replaced it improved her life so much. I am hoping to scrap a lot this weekend. I basically am leaving all the sketches for then. I also feel like I need to do another one for my own sketches because they were made in August and don't really count as September layouts. joyfulnana I'm glad you have Bess. She sounds like a great addition to your family. nylene I'm glad you had a good time at card club and that your surgery has been moved up. I need to schedule some blood work and my physical, but thankfully the medications I'm on seem to have all my numbers under control (blood pressure, blood sugar, cholesterol). I got my nails done yesterday and they are all different colours of glitter in beautiful fall shades. We have a new deck done and our new step is almost done. This has been a big year for home upgrades for us.

I was on a scrappy roll, but Monday's go-round with the dr and then working with dd yesterday to prepare our "case" for the assessment clinic, my mojo escaped. I did put together a kit for a two pager for sketches 9 & 10, and printed some photos for my own sample for Sunday. But wasn't feeling the joy, so put everything aside. Any other weekend, I would say we could scrap together for a couple of hours, justjac, but dgs will be staying with us Friday evening to Sunday evening, so I won't have much time to scrap then. Hoping to get my Sunday sample done tomorrow morning before Home Care comes in to see dh. Just got back from taking dh in for the xrays he refused to take on Monday. To be fair, he was feeling stressed and in quite a bit of pain after the visit to the dr and then having the nurse do the compression wrap. This morning, Dd got a call regarding the email she sent yesterday to the specialized geriatrics clinic referral office, and it sounds like there will be an appointment there within the next six weeks for dh. If he weren't post op for the hernia, they would have fit him in within the next two weeks. Looks like "my opinion" is more realistic than the gp's, huh? I always knew this, but need to remind myself that in tantrums there is power. I got my nails done yesterday and they are all different colours of glitter in beautiful fall shades. We need a picture!

I wrote out a post and lost it. I hope I remember what I wrote 20 minutes ago....this old brain. joyfulnana, I am so happy for your DS. I hope getting the driver's license is not a hassle. I am proud of him! Glad that Bess is settling in and eating. I, too, feel like there is a bit hope for our country! grammadee, it sounds like your opinion is pretty important after all. Glad DS is getting in for evaluation soon. Linda, I didn't try to do anything during the debate but mark my debate bingo card. Whoever made those up did a very good job! We watched together and chatted about it for another hour. I went for my pre-op visit this morning. It's getting closer! justjac, I want to see your nails. Congrats on the new deck. Is it on the front or back of the house? You have made a lot of nice improvements lately. I'm sure you are enjoying the air conditioning too.

{{cracks knuckles and settles in for a lot of replying!}} I'm not sure if I lived outside the US that I would allow my child to be an exchange student here. Yeah, I'm pretty sure I wouldn't send my kids on exchange at this time, and pray your government can help staunch the steady increase in gun violence that's claiming so many innocents. The US is such a huge influence on the world that kids everywhere are learning "gun violence is an option if I want to teach someone a lesson". Undeveloped frontal lobes and guns are a bad mix I'm so glad card club went well! Would you mind posting a picture of that card design you made using the strips? I'd love to copy the design. Most of our reverse shoulders are done as day surgeries, but we're wary of mobility issues. Many really depend on a walker even before the surgery, so we teach them to walk with only 1 hand pushing the walker. Better 1 hand than none, and better than a cane because they can sit down if they feel dizzy. If you are knocked off kilter by the drugs and anesthetic, could you borrow a 4 wheel walker for your first few days? downward slope in the past six months that if the trajectory continued he would be dead. She replied “”That’s just your opinion” Ooooh, let me at her. I'm so very glad you have got a "real" appointment with the surgeon. I don't know what wait lists are like around you. Here, if a bad case presents, the surgeons can have them done in about 3 weeks. justjac - can't wait to see your nails on Friday joyfulnana - I'm glad you like Bess and that she's starting to relax. We have also started the process to adopt a 1 year old cat that I met at the local pet food store and fell in love with. She's a grey/brown tabby with really dark stripes and spots. She's tiny. I sent Katie in to see what she thought, and she came home *bawling* and when I asked her what was wrong she replied "I love her so much" And - the cat is currently named, "Katie" which sealed the deal. It's like she was labelled for us. Our application has been approved, but as they moved the cat from petvalu back to the humane society someone managed to get scratched (cat didn't mean to, was just doing that "cling to shoulder" thing) and their policy is to isolate the cat for 10 DAYS!!! So we're just waiting. Linda - I haven't read the full story yet on the other thread but will go do so. That is icy-chills scary and I'm glad everything was stopped before it began. What did you think of the debate? I only get the 2nd hand news stories that are always biased one way or the other.

grammadee - glad that progress is happening albeit slowly and that DH was able to get the xrays done. justjac - congrats on the new deck. Love the nails -so pretty! nylene - (((Hugs)))) I'll continue praying for you as surgery approaches. I'll second kitbop in wanting to try your scrappy cards. kitbop -awww...can't wait to meet the new tiny Katie - will you keep the name or will that be too confusing? Debate - I'm going to reply in spoilers so if someone doesn't want to read politics they can skip it. neither answered the questions really but Harris definitely succeeded in getting under Trump's skin and he reacted accordingly which put him on the defensive and set the scene for some...very off-topic comments from him (very off the rail also). The moderators did a decent job of fact checking some of the more egregious falsehoods but not as good a job of keeping the time limits so Trump got more time and more answer opportunities - neither of which seemed to actually benefit him. Harris seemed a bit more focused on her plans and bringing the country together, moving forward in a positive direction. Trump didn't seem focused at all but most of what he said was the same old same old crap he's been spouting.
