Really cool art! It would be interesting to go once, but I don’t know if I can deal with the traffic.

Very cool art. Im shocked at how big the pieces are.
There is an event we go to every year, and we tent camp. We got a big two room tent, that we can easily stand in and it made all the difference.

Yeah, we have a huge tent. The problem with tent camping in the desert is sort of twofold. You kind of need an air-conditioned space to retreat to the hottest part of the day. There are ways to get around that when the weather is OK, but if the wind kicks up and you end up in dust storms, with white out conditions, then you really need a place to retreat too, and the tent is too hot

So cool TFS! I think anyone who goes to BM is a brave soul. I didn't know too much about it until I saw a ton of TT on it and the dust and then last year with the flooding.
Like someone said, I'd like to go for a day to check out the art pieces then beat feet out of there.

The shipwreck with the sea serpent will be installed at Golden Gate Park next. If you’re in the Reno area, the stained glass “Space Whale” with her calf that’s installed downtown was a burning man art piece.

candleangie these sculptures are amazing! I don't know much - actually I know nothing - about this event so here comes a dumb question Do these sculptures have to be disassemble/removed every year? Do the artists get any kind of compensation for their art?

LOL It is a time for people to enjoy community, art, self-reliance, self-expression, etc. No motorized vehicles (scooters, bikes, etc) are allowed pass a certain point. There are no amenities except for porta-potties. You have to bring all your own food. So many people go in RVs, but many stay in tents. There are groups that bring a little pop-up like village with them - fancy tents, food, etc. The organizers say to share if you run out of something. It has started to attract the rich and famous. And it is kind of expensive, almost $600 for the whole week, plus a couple hundred for camping fees.

Thank you for sharing! I watch the livestream every year, especially at night which is fun watching the lit up cars and bicycles go through the playa. I am intrigued but my fancy a$$ couldn't do it without a proper bathroom

Thanks for sharing!! I would love to get there one year to see the amazing art. I am always blown away by the creativity, planning, construction, logistics and effort that goes into putting Burning Man together. Is it possible to come in just a day, candleangie? Or is access only for the whole event?

Thanks for sharing!! I would love to get there one year to see the amazing art. I am always blown away by the creativity, planning, construction, logistics and effort that goes into putting Burning Man together. Is it possible to come in just a day, candleangie ? Or is access only for the whole event? From the Burning Man website: A: No. Black Rock City is an experiment in temporary community. Relationships are created, neighbors meet one another, and our collective survival is challenged. This is not a spectator event. It is difficult for you to take a role in the community if you are in Black Rock City for one or two days. To experience Black Rock City, you will want to become part of the community. Therefore, there are no day passes sold, and no discounts given based on your length of stay. Of course, it is not necessary that you come for the entire week. You are welcome to arrive early in the week and stay for just a portion of the event.bc2ca I also found this on their FAQ. I guess you would have to convince them you are only staying for a day. A: Thank you for asking the million-dollar question. Burning Man is an exercise in radical self-sufficiency. You have to bring all you need to survive, and then some. Some people bring only the basics; others bring everything including the kitchen sink.Water, food and shelter are imperative — you will be asked to turn around at the gate if gate personnel believe you cannot meet your basic survival needs. Carefully read the Survival Guide, and prepare accordingly.

dh has a desert oriented tent.. keeps him cooler than regular. his camp--that he went with for 3-4 years, fell apart due to divorce. so I think he would like to go again, but needs a crew to go with . he loved the pictures. he drove a ada cart decorated out.. and it would shoot flames 20 ft in the air.
but he prides himself on being an old dirt bag. and can deal will anything.
