So I ended up at the ER about 6 hours after my Moderna vaccine I had yesterday early afternoon.
I had eye swelling, blood shot eye, hives, rash, redness, itchy skin.
Anyways when being triaged, I stated why I was there and the doctor in the triage area (they have one to flag immediate needs) flipped her chair around and said "people are still vaccinating? Really? Why? What did you feel you needed it?"
So I said well my oldest has a primary Immunodeficiency and my youngest has a lot of complicated medical needs.
She was all oh yeah well that makes sense I guess. You need to keep locked down. I said no, we just need to protect our selves, our family, and my community. She looked like this 😱
Holy crap. I guess only 21% of adults vaccinated last year. Sigh
Anyways I am doing way better after a cocktail of meds. The doctor marked it as allergic reaction but not to Moderna. He said if it is flagged you won't be able to get it. Which I know because I am flagged on Pfizer.
He said because it was delayed and we have a ton of crap in the air right now from fires, he didn't want to mark it.
I am to see allergy Immunology and talk with them to see.
When I had a bad reaction to Pfizer it was 6 minutes later. You can have delayed reactions but like he said, my environment right now is bad.
So yeah. Just made me scratch my head.

My doctor was also like meh, you can get it or not last year. I hadn’t gotten the new variant one this year but it did get Covid a couple of weeks ago and did not enjoy it at all. I would have taken the new vaccine if it had been available to avoid being that sick.

As to your "doctor said" comment, my Mom (who lives in the Gulf Shores area of Alabama) started getting a terrible rash. She finally went to the ER because her eye was swelling shut and the doctor said "you wouldn't believe the things that are happening after these vaccines...". WTAF? She took a steroid and found a different doctor to see.

I think I would skip the vaccine if I were you. Next time could be worse. I'd stick with a mask in public.
I don't see a lot of people except a few elderly still getting the Covid vaccines, so I'm not very surprised they said that. I can certainly see your reasoning but no one even asks about it anymore.

That will be what I do if allergy Immunology says no more. This was my 3rd Moderna so it makes sense if it was. They are currently doing work up because of how quickly I become allergic to things. MCAD basic labs come back fine so they are asking insurance to cover a new genetic screen for it. |

I saw my dr Tuesday (routine med check). I’m a sr citizen and diabetic and have all the Covid shots and boosters. He never mentioned the newest booster and I had to ask about it. He’s a young doctor and he was kind of.”meh” as well. He said all the cases, and there have been very few of Covid that have been coming into the office have been very mild and people just felt like they had a very mild case of the flu. He said it was totally my choice, so now I am undecided, but I will definitely be getting my flu shot.

And truthfully, my DH did get it and not even realize he had it. Until he gave it to me. And mine wasn't mild. It was miserable and I didn't feel normal for nearly a month. So I will get the booster no matter how much other people downplay it. |

I got my flu and COVID vaccines last week. I am 62 and recently diagnosed as diabetic, so I'm not taking any chances. My DD who still lives with us works at the hospital, so I know there is always a risk of exposure. Plus, I work in higher ed among the "I'm invincible and couldn't possibly get COVID" student crowd.
I wore a mask when I had my mammogram this summer because DD had returned from LaLaPalooza with COVID, so I had been exposed. I explained why I was wearing the mask to the technician, in case she wanted to wear one as well, and she was so thankful. She said you wouldn't believe the number of people who come in with symptoms but won't wear a mask since it isn't absolutely required anymore.

I just scheduled my 4th quarter check up appointment for late October and I’ll ask my GP then what her advice is. Last year I had both on the same day and was fine, so I will just go with whatever she says.

I risk the flu, but get the vaccine/boosters for COVID. Last year was the first time in my life I ever had the flu---I got it immediately after COVID, and that was also the first time I ever had COVID. Banner few months for me.  The COVID hit me far worse than the flu. |

We just got back from a Rhine River cruise to The Netherlands, Germany, France and Switzerland. We both got sick towards the end of the trip and tested positive for Covid when we got home. It's probably the most mild case we have had but we still feel pretty bad. We will be getting the new vaccine as soon as we are able. Not sure if we have to wait three months after Covid now or not like before. I discussed the vaccine with my doc at my annual visit not long before we left and she is totally onboard with me getting it. We will both definitely get the new vaccine as soon as we are able to.

When I saw my doctor in May, he was meh about the current (at the time) Covid booster. He said cases were mild and he hadn't prescribed Paxlovid in awhile. He said he would recommend the booster if traveling abroad, but other than that, it is up to us. I haven't touched base yet with him about the new booster. Covid has been trending downward recently in California, after a big surge the past month or two.

How awful! I'm so sorry you had to deal with that. My doctor's office still encourages vaccination and has signs posted that say "yes we still encourage COVID boosters."

I stay up to date on my covid shots.
I'll be getting my flu and covid shot toward the end of the month.
I travel overseas several times per year and even before covid, I got sick a lot of the times--just from being around so many people/tourists, mass transit, etc.
I still get sick, no idea if it has been covid or not, but at least not sick enough to wreck my vacations.

DH and I (and several of his coworkers) came home from a business meeting in New Orleans with Covid at the beginning of July. I have had every booster available. I won't get the new vaccine for a couple of months because theoretically I have some immunity. Will be getting the flu vaccine in October. Since I'm 65, pre-diabetic with another chronic illness, I'll continue to get both Covid and flu vaccines.

Our last three trips- bus tour of Ireland, Mexican Riviera cruise and now the Rhine cruise- we have gotten Covid on all of them. Well, in fairness, we never tested positive after the Mexican Riviera but we’re pretty sure we had it even though the test was negative. |

I got my booster 2 weeks ago with similar results, but I didn’t have the hives or rash. I was so itchy for days. But we also have smoke from Canadian wild fires here, so that could explain the itchy red eyes.
If you get another booster, I’d probably do so in a medical setting vs a pharmacy or pop up clinic. I had to do that with flu vaccines, along with waiting there an hour, until they decided that I’m no longer going to chance that.
Sometimes our bodies suck.

Very scary that your body reacts that way to vaccines.
A friend had the Moderna shot last year, and she believes she can trace her cognitive trouble to receiving the vaccine.
She said she will not get another one unless her doctor pushes her to.
MIL (80 y/o in FL) said her doctor told her she has “enough immunity” so is not getting any further vaccines.
She and FIL cruised earlier this year, and nearly the whole dining table came down with Covid.
I just got the new Pfizer shot and the yearly flu shot, with no issues whatsoever (oncologist confirmed I could and should).
^^^ Upthread: MIL gets random hives/lip swelling/eye swelling and was told it’s angioedema. She’s supposed to take a daily Benadryl and Pepcid (adding prednisone if a flare occurs). But she only treats the flares.

pantsonfire Im so sorry that happened to you. Hopefully you will get to the bottom of what the real issue is pretty quick. I've been sick this week -- it started last week on Saturday. Sunday AM I went urgent care with a fever, chills, etc. I was floored when I saw the Dr that he didn't initially ask to take a covid test when he swabbed me for Flu and Strep. When I asked, he said he could but he didn't think this was covid but he'd do it. All the test came back negative. When I wasn't getting better yesterday I went back and he did X-rays and now we are treating pneumonia. He did re-test me for Covid and still negative so thats good I guess. DH hasn't gotten sick at all, so fingers crossed this is just a freak thing. I have a slight cough still hanging around, but otherwise I feel fine and haven't had fever since last night.

I get all of mine every year. I'm just borderline on all the conditions that they strongly recommend it for (age, health conditions, etc.) so I'd likely do it anyway. However, I work closely with homeless people (like face to face, hugging, etc.) and DD is out in public doing her EMT stuff, and both kids are still in school. That flips "probably" to a "HELL, YES, I'M DOING IT!" I don't mind doing it, and I don't usually have much of a reaction except the slightly scratchy throat/very low fever that's fairly common. It's just the adulting part of willingly signing myself up for pain that still confuses me.
Now, I always have to drag DD kicking and screaming because she can't stand shots or blood draws. But I told her that as long as she lives in my house, this is one condition of her working in healthcare. (Because she isn't a formal employee, it hasn't been a requirement. If/when she is formally employed in that respect, I'm do know it's a job requirement.) Ironically, if they'd let her give it to herself, she'd be fine!
DS is always like, meh, if I have to, and then says his sister is a whiny baby. DH does it but always has a man vaccine where he's convinced he's dying, or at least that his arms will fall off, afterwards.
People are funny.

Knock on wood, but 3 of us in the house have never had COVID. 2 trips to Disney World, 1 trip to California, 1 trip to Italy and 1 Alaska cruise. I will say we wear masks on airplanes. And our Alaska cruise was in a Haven category, which is like a private part of the ship on NCL, so we weren't around a lot of people.
I do think everyone will get COVID eventually, but we do what we can to stay healthy.
