I like the idea of bringing everything out in the morning so I can prep when I have time bc2ca. cadoodlebug I didn't misunderstand you. I'm just saying $5 gifts are hard to find no matter if it's your turn or someone else's. I wouldn't want to be tasked with finding $5 gifts or having to receive a $5 gift.

I'm laughing at your DH karenlou ! I have someone around me with the same mindset. But if I had to live with the junk I'd be annoyed. The ONLY plus side to some of the junk is that it is stored in a storage unit so I never have to see it!!!! We will NOT discuss the car that has been on blocks in the driveway since sometime in 2003... in MY parking space I might add😱😱😱😱 I am beyond angry about that!!! Maybe give him a deadline and say it will be towed. It’s been there a long time. My produce is in bowls in the fridge and on the counter. I do like my fruit cold and not fully ripe. I hate mushy fruit. Glad today is better leannecAussieMeg I still am amazed at your beach lice story. It sounds painful. I’m meeting my bff’s for dinner at an Italian place. No cooking for me!

I'm sorry to hear that you were having a bad day leannec. I hope you're feeling better now. I like the idea of taking a mental health day to sit and watch TV all day. jeremysgirl I really like the look of some of the tiered storage items that pantsonfire posted. They're functional and look good too, and are not going to clutter up your bench top as much as all of those different bowls. I have a storage box for onions, potatoes, and garlic, which sits at the end of my kitchen cupboards, out of the way. Those items are supposed to be kept in a cool and dark place, so it's perfect. Bananas and other fruit that I don't refrigerate are kept in a lovely big frosted glass fruit bowl, in the centre of the kitchen table. All other fruit and veggies are kept in the fridge. We wanted something quick and easy for dinner, so DSO suggested spaghetti bolognese. Ugh. Instead I made Kevin and Amanda's Spicy Sausage Pasta. I usually use chorizo (because we don't have spicy turkey sausage here), but this time I used cheese kransky instead.

leannec, I am sorry you are dealing with depression and anxiety in addition to your insomnia issues. Those are all issues that my fibromyalgia gives me also, in addition to extreme pain, so I have empathy with how you are feeling. Good for you for taking care of yourself instead of feeling pressured to show up to the condo celebration. jeremysgirl, I put the citrus and other fruit into the fruit bin in my refrigerator to get them off the counter. I do like my fruit chilled though. I keep the onions and potatoes in bins on a shelf in my food cupboard. In your case, it sounds like the multilayer containers would work better for you. As for bananas, I remove the skins and put them in a ziplock bag into the freezer, preferably the day that I buy them. I hate overripe bananas. I always add frozen banana to my protein drinks and lately to my vegetable drink. It improves the texture in addition to the normal banana nutritional benefits. I usually pull two or three off the main bunch to eat fresh and hang them on a banana hook insert in my fruit bowl. Bananas don’t stay edible for more than two or three days for me so I don’t keep more than a couple out before preparing the rest for the freezer. Avocado and tomato go into the fruit bowl and are the only produce visible in my kitchen. stormsts, I would be furious if someone pulled photos out of a scrapbook that I carefully put together as a gift. I have only given one scrapbook as a present to someone and I made a dvd of the photos that I used in making it and put that in an envelope on the last page of the album. That way, if someone wanted to have a copy or maybe enlarge a particular photo, they will have it on the dvd and would not need to damage the scrapbook that spent my time and money putting together. cadoodlebug, using those adorable snowmen is not a tacky idea at all. I .love snowmen too and would be perfectly happy with receiving one of those. I have no idea what my dinner will be tonight. I just don’t have much of an appetite. I may just have a protein shake and call it good. I did not get much sleep last night, not drifting off until 3 am. Then I always have an alarm set for 6:30 to take my short term pain pill and the pill my doctor prescribed to fight fatigue. I can usually go right back to sleep after taking those and then when I wake up normally, I am not suffering due to my time-released pain pill having ended because I took the short term pill early. And by then the anti fatigue pill has kicked in and I have the energy to get out of bed and start my day. I try not to take the anti fatigue pill daily, even though the doctor prescribes enough for one each day. I do really appreciate them because I would end up laying in bed and dozing off all day without them. Instead I got up and fixed several things for the freezer. I steamed some broccoli that will probably end up as broccoli cheese soup, mushrooms that I add to so many things, and I made 12 egg/cheese patties in my round shallow mold to make breakfast sandwiches. All of the store bought breakfast sandwiches have ingredients that are not healthy so it is easier and cheaper to make my own. I found the molds on Amazon and today I filled them with plain eggs and shredded cheese. I use those sandwich thins instead of the high calorie croissants that Costco uses and I use Canadian bacon rather than regular bacon again, less calories and fat in it. I assemble them and pop them into my freezer and now have 12 breakfasts ready to go. They heat in the microwave in about a minute and a half. I use these when I am too tired to put a protein shake together. This is similar to the mold I use for the egg sandwiches: www.amazon.com/dp/B0CQC6ZC1Z/ref=vp_d_vp_d_fuw_pd_pd?_encoding=UTF8&pf_rd_p=95590a51-8b9e-49a7-bb36-7db49ee510df&pf_rd_r=7MV2TRHNXJB175N6Z0NJ&pd_rd_wg=nf5nP&pd_rd_i=B0CQC6ZC1Z&pd_rd_w=vJCiN&content-id=amzn1.sym.95590a51-8b9e-49a7-bb36-7db49ee510df&pd_rd_r=ed9c8b38-c30f-4280-941d-d4b2ffc822c1&th=1

Jeremy ate my entire meal and his comments were: the Brussels sprouts could be less lemony and the sweet potatoes were the star of the dinner. I really liked the beans. They were the popcorn chicken/shrimp bean equivalent.

I'm sorry to hear that you were having a bad day leannec. I hope you're feeling better now. I like the idea of taking a mental health day to sit and watch TV all day. Thanks everyone for understanding my need to pull away from the world yesterday ... I don't do it often ... I have many mental health diagnoses but I am a functioning person as a rule ... but sometimes I'm not ... Yesterday was just what I needed ... watched way too many ASMR videos but I love them so much! Oh, and finished Selling Sunset ... now what to watch on Netflix? I don't like dramas ... I think there is something that looks interesting starting soon ... can't remember what it is ...

AussieMeg I did order a two tiered basket for the countertop. I will see if I like it when it comes. I wish I had a pantry.

Happy Sunday, all. We went to church and then went out for lunch- we chose a Mexican restaurant that was showing the sea hawk game since we don’t have cable. They won in OT so that was fun. Dinner was supposed to be tortilla soup- but we had the unexpected Mexican food for lunch (it was an impromptu decision after church when we realized they were playing). So… that doesn’t seem so great so it might just be leftover pasta from last night. jeremysgirl I store all produce in my fridge. Onion and potatoes have their own separate baskets in a bookshelf in my kitchen where they stay out of the light. We almost never buy bananas as they hurt my stomach (I have a latex fruit sensitivity). Sometimes I’ll put clementines in a bowl on my island for decoration and easy access but mostly things are in the fridge. I’d use a three tier wire basket if I were you- I wish you were closer as I have two sitting around I don’t use! They would take the same “footprint” of your other bowl but hold more (unless they blocked your upper cupboard- then maybe a two tier would helpSome). Could something go in a bowl on top of your fridge? Out of sight out of mind might be an issue for that, though.

leannec - (((Hugs))) jeremysgirl - with my farm box, I have similar issues. I have a two-tiered basket for potatoes/sweet potatoes and various onions as well as a metal fruit bowl with banana hook. And two full drawers in the fridge - one for the current week's produce and one for anything leftover from last week. I think I keep more in the fridge than you do though - i think a tiered system or hanging tiered baskets would maybe work best. I really need a bigger tiered basket so I can keep winter squash out also. (and I have a pantry - it's narrow and deep and awkward to use - and I have an overflow bookcase in the garage for canned and bottled goods that were getting lost). I would be scared to store produce in the pantry for fear of losing something too long. Dinner tonight was beef empanadas - I had wanted to make curried sweet potato empanadas but couldn't find the empanada dough so ended up buying frozen ready made beef ones. We had Green Goddess dip with tortilla chips with it - it was surprisingly good and chock full of veggies - spinach, green onions, yellow onions, garlic, parsley, basil, cucumbers, cabbage.... Speaking of cabbage- I still have 3/4 of a head of cabbage. Any awesome ideas for using it that don't look like cabbage? I like cabbage but I'm hoping not to have to eat the whole head myself since it's not that popular here and I'm sure we'll get another one in a week or so.

We went to the farmers market to pick up fresh corn for tomorrow and buy produce etc. We then went to Bon Ton meat Market for fresh meat pies for dinner (they have been selling their meats for over one hundred years) and fresh potato salad from there. We had tomatoes from our garden with dinner.

I like shredding cabbage.. stirfry in a bit of oil, (canola).. with chunks of fresh or frozen ginger root, then finish at the end with a scant quarter teaspoon of sesame oil.. I serve it with teriyaki chicken chunks.

AussieMeg I did order a two tiered basket for the countertop. I will see if I like it when it comes. I wish I had a pantry. Do you have a spot in your laundry room or in the garage where you could add one of those 2-door cupboards with shelves inside? If you have the space for that, you could transfer some of the duplicates or less often used items to that cupboard. My dad put one in their garage for my mom and she moved most of her canned goods and a few small appliances that she didn’t use very often. I also helped her transfer most of the boxed items into huge glass canning jars just in case there were bugs in the garage. I cut up the boxes to get the info that she needed and made up a quick binder for her to keep the instructions or ingredients handy. We labeled the glass jars with her labeling machine and that gave her an entire cupboard’s worth of space for things she used daily. It sounds like a lot of work, but they tended to use the same products all the time so once we made the glass container and put the instructions in her binder, any replacement was just dumped into the glass and the box thrown out.

Linda, what about shredding the cabbage to use for fish tacos? Cabbage is what all the restaurants that served fish tacos would use. To be honest, years ago when my friend wanted to go to this place for fish tacos, I didn’t want to go. It sounded repulsive, putting fish in a taco? Ugh. But she was very persuasive so we went there. OMG, I am so glad we did. They were delicious. We put a squeeze of fresh lime on them. We made Wahoo’s, the restaurant that made fish tacos famous in our area, a regular lunch or dinner stop. I really miss having a Wahoo’s around the corner from the house.

Yesterday was just what I needed ... watched way too many ASMR videos but I love them so much! Somehow my Facebook algorithm has sucked me into a vortex of rug cleaning videos, of all things!! I must have watched one, then FB decided I must really love watching filthy rugs get cleaned, because that's all it's feeding me now. And I'm not gonna lie, they are very satisfying to watch!

Dad and I were invited to brunch at DS and DDIL’s new house today and it was lovely. They are both doing very well. DDIL wants to go to school but also keep in mind she has a very good job and her employer likes her a lot. She is well paid and adulting well. My son has finally been able to hire someone to do this job that he was doing as well as his own to start tomorrow morning. I had to ask him “are you training the newbie?” and he said no they have someone coming in to train. I hope this takes a lot of stress off his shoulders.
Dinner tonight was smoked salmon and cream cheese. We ate enough at DS’. I ate every carb there was. If my son is cooking I am going to eat it. I live by that and it’s only one meal not a year of great cooking.

Just a quick drop in. Had insomnia last night and slept in. Tonight I made baba ganoush from an eggplant in our garden. And we had that, hummus, pita bread and tomatoes. Yum. DH wanted a little salami as well.
