A coat/cape I’ve been coveting came back in stock last night. I got the email notification just before I turned put the lights so I quickly placed the order.
Murphy’s Law being what it is, this morning I opened my email to a message that the shop is having a site wide 30% off sale for the next two days. So frustrating! If it was just a top or pants it would be NBD, but on a coat the savings is substantial. And yes, I did just send a nice note to CS to see if they might be able to apply the discount to my order. 🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻
How about you, what’s your Murphy’s Law is in play story?

Hoping they honor the new discount! I think most retailers do if an item goes on sale right after you bought it.

Last spring I signed up dd for driver's ed during the summer, based all out vacations around not missing the class (3 nights a week) and dd went and got a summer job with evening hours, so couldn't take the class.
Who found the job listing, mentioned it to dd, and didn't realize she applied for it until she was hired? That would be me.

MichyM I hope they honor the discount for you too. But if they don't, think of it this way...at least you were able to order it finally. With the sale, it might go out of stock again. Most shops will honor it so crossing my fingers for you!

I hope they apply the discount for you. My Murphy's Law truth is much more simple and I'm pretty sure I've mentioned it before. If I take 4 reusable bags into the grocery store, I will only need 3. If I take 3 bags in, I will need 4. Also, if I let DH set an appointment for me he will schedule it to interfere with my yoga class 100% of the time.

So I heard back, and this is their reply:
"Just a quick heads up! Unfortunately, we're unable to apply discounts to orders once they've been placed. We suggest holding onto your discount for your next purchase or you can always return your original order and buy your item(s) again with the discount code."
They also will not cancel the order. Boooo-hissss.
At their recommendation, I am tempted to place a second order and just return the first one (returns are free but shipping is not) when it arrives (savings is close to $100), would you do this?

Absolutely I would do that. Two can play that game.

MichyM $100 savings is worth the effort. Short sighted on their part, there's a cost to all parties and leaving you with a bad memory.

I would cancel and reorder for $100 bucks.
I’m surprised they won’t just refund the difference. That would be less expensive for them than processing 2 orders.
The sites I manage, we would refund you the discount amount if you called within 24 hours.

Food for thought: If you do not open a package and mark it refused/return to sender, no postage is necessary to return if it comes via USPS. Tracking would still apply.

We're trying to repair a section of porch, DIY. First weekend we planned to work on it, it rained. Really rained, like flood watch rain, all day. 2nd weekend, rain--flood watch rain, again! 3rd weekend--sun! But DH hurt his back. 4th Weekend--yeah, you guessed it---rain. (Not flood watch, at least! ) Then DH was sick, then we had one weekend with preset plans, and only after all of those weeks, have we finally been able to get work done the last 2 weekends, but sheesh, I thought there was a curse upon us for awhile there. Meanwhile, all other warm-weather projects are waiting in line as we rapidly run out of warm weather.

Ugh, that is bad customer service. I would absolutely return and reorder.
Mine is everything I like, meaning products, gets discontinued.

I'm sorry they didn't give you the discount. That's frustrating.
In sewing, I often run out of bobbin thread and have to wind a new bobbin when I have just a few inches left to sew on a project.

This seems to always happen to me too! Also, if anyone is wondering, I did place a second order and will return the first. This is the first time I’ve ordered from this site. One my return has been received and credited back to my card I won’t visit them again. What a silly policy that is a waste of my time, their employee’s time, not to mention the waste of resources to send a second order and the return of the first one. There was less than 9 hours from the time of my order to the time on my email asking about the discount. Oh well 🤷🏼♀️

I experienced mine this afternoon.
If out running errands and I bring my water bottle, I won’t get thirsty. If I forget it at home I will be parched!

But you will end up paying shipping 3 times. Once with the non discount. Twice with returning and a third time with the reorder. Is the shipping cheap enough to still be worth it.

I am so annoyed for you that they wouldn't credit/refund the price difference and can't believe they suggested returning/rebuying the item (which I would 100% do). Even if it the first order was packaged and the way, they could process a refund/repurchase transaction without having the actual item in hand. Back in the day, when we had infants/toddlers, my sis and I were addicted to Baby Gap. The absolute best thing was they had a 2 week window of refunding the difference as prices dropped. Since the product line changed every 6-8 weeks we got pretty good at knowing when to buy to get some incredible deals. We only needed to bring in the receipt to get a refund processed. That's kind of my bench mark 20+ years later as to what I expect from a retailer.

They charge $6 for shipping, and returns are free, so I only had to pay for shipping a second time. That said, they lost a brand new customer over it 🤷🏼♀️

I’ve been known to keep things I don’t want just to avoid making a return. That said, I will happily dance this return to UPS/USPS/FedEx or whatever shipping company they use. VERY happily 😎

After years of dealing with slipped stitches and tension issues on my old sewing machine, I finally bit the bullet and bought a very nice, very expensive new one. A week later it started having exactly the same problem as the old one. After checking the manual I figured out that I had incorrectly threaded the new machine and fixed the problem. That got me wondering. I pulled out the old machine and manual (which I hadn't read for thirty years) and sure enough, I'd been missing a step in the threading process all these years. It now sews beautifully and there was really no need for me to spend $1500 on the new one!

I often do this if returns are easy. Target is a great example of this. The return windows are long so if something is cheaper a month later I buy and return.
