The first brand new car that I drove was chosen, purchased, and all add ons decided by my ex. And I know I should have been grateful for it because it was a nice car, but I should have been included in the process. This wasn’t a birthday gift or anything, he just wanted one so he bought it “for me” to drive. Not long after we divorced though, I sold it and bought my own brand new car. Totally my choice and my bartering at the dealership. Although I did have some trouble there. My son and I went to a nearby dealership to check them out. I had been saving up and had the cash in the bank for it. A salesman came up after ignoring me for quite a while. I asked a few questions and was about to ask to drive one. The guy looked at me and asked me if I was there to pick the color and was my husband coming later to make the deal! My son looked at him and said, “Uh oh. That was a big mistake!” I said it sure was and we left. I immediately went to another dealership and bought the car. This time, a woman salesperson came out right away, answered my questions, took me for a test drive, and never once asked me if I was just there to pick the color. On the way home from buying it, I pulled into the first dealership and motioned for the sales guy to come out. I told him that statistically more women, even married women, made the decision as to what car to purchase, not the man. I told him that I bought it all by my little self, and oh yeah, my son picked the color. I was about 35 years old. It was a gorgeous, sleek, Toyota Supra, white, with a top that lifted off and went into the trunk on special holders in the sides. It looked similar to this. It was sporty, sexy, and I loved it.

I never have bought a brand new car, and I never will. I love the idea of owning a brand new car, but I think it's a terrible waste of money (for me). The depreciation is a bitch! The only time I would consider buying a brand new car is if I win the lottery.
My last two cars have both been 2yo Toyotas that I bought at a car auction. They were both half the cost of what they were brand new two years earlier.
The closest I've ever come to owning a brand new car is when I bought an ex-demo model Toyota Seca. Mum was working at Toyota at the time, and I got a ridiculously great deal on it. It actually still had the new car smell.

1996...I was 30. That was the only brand new car I ever bought. All my subsequent cars have been 2-3 year old. Dh has always bought used as well. He bought his first brand new card in 2022, when he went electric.

My first new car was my first car. I bought it myself when I was 21 (my mom co-signed). It was a red Toyota Tercel. The best part was I didn’t even have a drivers license so I couldn’t test drive it. It’s a long story but the short version is the only cars that had been available to me to practice were stick (which stressed me out) and I bought an automatic. I practiced with my mom over the weekend and then took the drivers test Monday and passed- even though I opted out of parallel parking.

I was 21 and had just graduated college. I drove it for 13 years. I traded then because I needed a van for the business I had started. I've always bought new and am only on my 4th vehicle.

My first new car was right after I graduated from college. It was a 1979 Camaro Berlinetta with t-tops (removable sun roof). My dad was mad, but I was done being controlled by him. It's funny to think I only paid $6400.

Me personally, never have really. Dh did buy a brand new 2002 Dodge Ram when ds was about 3 months old. We sold it about 1.5 years later when I was pg with dd. We knew I wasn't going back to work, so we needed to eliminate that payment.
In 1999, I bought a 1997 Explorer. So age wise, that was the newest I've ever purchased. I was 22, I think. My current car is a 2010 MKX and it's the nicest I've ever had. We got it in 2022.

My first brand new car was purchased in 2012- I had leased several cars prior to that and if I recall correctly, I did buy one lease when the term was up.

28. We bought a Honda Odyssey new for our family. I drove it 9 years until I totaled it. The next minivan was a used Chrysler Town and Country and now I have a new Ford Edge. We are fine with used cars but the Town and Country was quickly declining during the pandemic. Used cars were outrageous so we opted for new.

When did you first buy a brand new car? After years of buying used cars, I finally was able to buy my very first spankin' brand new car at the age of 52. It was a 2014 Chevy Cruze Forest Green. It had been driven for almost 100 miles before I got it. Probably was used a lot for test drives. I had to stop on the way home after buying it, when the odometer turned 100. When I hit a deer in 2019, I traded it in for my 2nd brand new car, 2019 Chevy Trax, Gray. Still have it, it's paid off, and I plan on driving that sucker into the ground! Zero payments now, great gas mileage, and low mileage! Not trading it in until I absolutely have to! We are big believers in our family of buying (not leasing) cars and using them as long as possible. We hold on to our cars for around 10 years, give and take depending on circumstances, and use our money for longer-term assets that - hopefully! - appreciate, not depreciate.

I always bought new cars. My parents taught me that it was better to do that since they came with a warranty and we didn't have anyone handy in our family to help if a car had problems. Last year, at 39, was the first time I ever bought a used car.

Dh and I were in our late 20s when my grandmother died the same year my dd#1 was born. With the money left to me by my grandmother we were able to buy a new Honda Accord for cash. It lasted a good long time - the next new car we bought was a Suburban because we added two more daughters!

I bought my first new car at 24. It was an 88 Chevy Nova hatchback, 5 speed standard/manual in a Sparkly blue. I loved that car. I have bought new since, but kept the first 3 for about 10 years each. The next one for about 5 years. And now I just traded my 2021 (I had it for about 3.5 years) in for a 2025. I expect I will keep this one for quite a few years as I now really have all the options I want.

I’m 52 and I have never owned a new car. I always buy used cars with good ratings and low mileage. I don’t care about cars and don’t like driving. I also didn’t own a car at all until I was 30.

I bought my first (and only!) brand new car in 2007, when I was 30. I'm 47 now and still driving it!
