I RUN from the political posts here, but learned something over the weekend that has made me dig a little deeper in my views. I'm curious what others here think, There are a lot of Harris supporters here and I know how narrow minded everyone seems to be in this election regardless of who you support.
I learned this weekend that a popular podcaster recently invited both Harris and Trump to sit down for an interview.
Trump's campaign accepted the invite and worked with the podcaster to make it happen 6 days later- Did not require a preview of the questions or agenda.
Harris's campaign responded that is is "under review" and to provide a list of questions, these were provided almost two weeks ago and is still under review as of Friday.
The podcast with Trump will come out this week. What really struck me is that Trump took the time to meet with this podcaster that is widely known to be connected to the "common person" Yes, he probably needs the exposure and votes. I'm not a Trumpster and really don't like the man, however, my respect for him grew just a bit over Harris in this instance.
What is everyone's thoughts? and, I'm not going to engage in a lot of back and forth just wanted to see what thoughts this inspires in others.

How the frick can your respect for him grow? Seriously?
And to ask a question where you know you will get push back and say you won't engage? Come on...
It means Trump knew the questions and they are using this as a ploy to get people to go oh well hey maybe he s better.
Dude can't even answer a question on the fly, you know they go them and trained him on what to say.

I would be curious who the podcaster was. Because both campaigns have been carefully vetting their media exposure. Trump/Fox News all through his presidency and beyond is proof that he's also looking for favorable media/audience. I don't think that's weird at all. And does not factor one bit into my level of "respect" for either candidate. We've all seen (truth social posts) what Trump looks like unscripted. Seems to me that Harris is pretty smart to meet that with preparation and good sense.
Again, please share who the podcaster was.

I don't think the candidates need to respond to everyone asking for an interview..and that is way to small an item to judge the candidate. how about not voting the guy who separated small children from their parents.. and some are never ever ever going to be reunited.
evil vs good (maybe not great but good)...

Why would Harris (or any candidate for that matter) go on a Podcast with him when all he will do is rant and rave and not address ANY issues or questions directly?

Lex Fridman has a podcast coming out this week with Trump, and he's expressed interest in interviewing Kamala. I wonder if that's who OP is referring to.

The GOP campaign has been hitting a lot of what is known as "dude influencer" podcasts in the last couple months. They see it as a good use of their time to reach the people they want to reach. I'm not sure why that would earn him respect. Without knowing who the podcaster is, I'm assuming he talked to someone catering to a friendly audience along the lines of Theo Von and Logan Paul. The Harris campaign isn't sitting around doing nothing while they consider the invite. They are making a calculated decision on how/where to use their candidates on the campaign trail and IMHO, don't think this invite is a priority.

I think it means that Trump expected this to be a friendly to him forum and Harris did not. this happens all the time. Trump declines interview requests all the time. I don't fault either candidate for picking their forum.
What's important to me is what the candidate SAYS and DOES.
I rejected Trump 100% permanently the minute he mocked John McCain. Once the voters elected him President of the United States of America after making fun of someone who gave 5 years of his life - tortured - to the US I was done with those voters as well. And for those of you voters, how would you react if Harris said "I don't like Presidential candidates who've been shot at." ?? Please explain to me how you could have ANY respect for this man, Anyone???
I like some of Harris' policies and some I do not like at all. I will gladly vote for her. I will evaluate her and her opponent carefully if she is elected and runs for reelect in 2028.

Dude can't even answer a question on the fly, you know they go them and trained him on what to say. Funny you say "fly" because it reminded me of this little story about him the other day: "Oh there’s a fly,” the former president said. “I wonder where the fly came from?” One audience member shouted out “Kamala.” Trump continued: “See, two years ago, I wouldn’t have had a fly up here. You’re changing rapidly. We can’t take it any longer.” This was on stage in Wisconsin the other day, BTW. Back to the OP, there is not a damn thing that man could do to earn even an iota of respect from me. IDGAF if he decided to go on the Podcast when he wants to see this world burn to line his pockets.

"I know you're all narrow minded...I'm not going to discuss' but you want others to take the time to answer your 'question' Yeah. I'm out on that. The fact that the OP doesn't see the irony of posting this, and then completely failing to see why one campaign might choose not to interact with a certain podcaster, is pretty funny. But I'm sure that getting pushback for clueless commentary is why she avoids political posts in the first place. ETA: If it is that Lex Fridman person, he is apparently also an Elon surrogate. That would be enough for any reasonable candidate to avoid him. Personally, I hope I'm never "open minded" to fascism.

I have zero concerns about this. It is a podcast; there are hundreds of popular ones out there. As someone else said above, Trump's campaign thinks podcasts, especially the bro-type, are worth his time; obviously, Harris's campaign is more particular.
I do not think it is a bad thing to want to know what one is getting into. Trump doesn't give two shits about the questions because he ignores them most of the time and just talks about whatever he wants to talk about anyway. I highly doubt he would go on a liberal female-led podcast. Being protective of your time and energy isn't a bad thing.

Part of Trump’s campaign strategy is to not do Traditional campaign stumping. Instead, to reach his people he is doing a series of podcast visits with several male influencers. Elon, Logan Paul, Theo Von, Lex Friedman etc.
So what this means is that the GOP candidate wants to appear in a friendly place where he can air all his grievances for how he has been treated in response to his crimes, they can ramble on about their dreams for America where women are submissive to the indulgences of men, and black and brown people are in their place which is not in America, and if it is, it’s in a “black job” which is what?
So if you are a women and that’s the environment you are walking into you, you damn well ask for the questions in advance because they don’t want to interview you to inform their listeners about your policies. They want to embarrass you and use you as a metaphorical punching bag to earn clicks and $$$ for themselves. You are looking for the “gotchas” intended to give them an opportunity to rant and rave and make you look bad.
And if a person, a woman I’m guessing due to the demographics of this forum, who’s identity is so wrapped up in, “I could never vote for a Democrat, a progressive, a POC or woman.” Which ever combo of those four it is. Not even to preserve your basic, human rights which we claim and celebrate is a fundamental difference between the United States of America and what came before or elsewhere, despite the growing catalog of horrifying statements made by the GOP candidates and their surrogates that harkens back to the worst and most violent parts of the previous centuries, I can’t help that person.
In another forum, during Covid, I made a statement that, over the long term, the inability for humans to identify threats will have serious consequences. People have unnecessary died or become disabled rather than vaccinate themselves, or take any sort of precaution in the face of a brand new virus. People have ideas of what Climate Change will mean or not mean, and they couldn’t conceive of how dangerous and destructive storms could be that far inland, at that elevation we are seeing this weekend. Your insurance companies will have different ideas, and you will pay. And now women are playing chicken with their rights, because they are okay with taking away human rights and dignity of others. It won’t end how you think it will.

I cannot answer this question because I don't have enough information. To not list the name of the podcaster is disingenuous. I can only assume this is intentional. Not all podcasters are on an even playing field--some are racists and bigots, misogynists, liars and conspiracy theorists. Why would Kamala Harris waste her time on a podcaster who is unserious, uses hate speech or spreads lies and conspiracy theories. Give us the name and then we'll talk.

He never answers questions directly because he doesn't have answers beyond his talking points that he just keeps repeating or grievances he wants to air.. I love how he answered this question about how he would help keep jobs in the United States. Mind you, he was speaking in Michigan where there is a large population of autoworkers, so he had to know that the question, or something similar, was coming, and yet he did not have an answer. Instead we got a rant about his non-existent "man of the year award." x.com/Acyn/status/1839817819070071073

If the podcast is any of those mentioned or one like them, I don't blame her for taking her time to make a decision or wanting to know the topics ahead of time. Like someone else said, she wants to know what she is walking into before making a decision. The fact that this podcast is framing the decision as a talking point for Trump (that the OP apparently fell for) says quite a bit on it's own. It also doesn't really seem like these podcasts represent the "common person" but more like the common Trump supporter.
Also, Trump just rambles about what he wants anyway so as long as he views the interviewer as friendly to him, he is good. Maybe Harris wants to hear the Trump episode first to find out what the tone towards her is.

The nice thing about a podcast, of course, is that a friendly host will edit out extended moments of word salad like Trump increasingly produces. x.com/BostonBrian23/status/1840465386573111750Much better for Trump than live interviews like the one with the NABJ his handlers had to end early.

I assume the OP is referring to the Dave Ramsey podcast. Trump interviewed with Dave and Harris did not.
Edited to add: Im home now and not typing on my phone so I can more fully answer.
If you are talking about Harris not doing the Dave Ramsey interview, then I think it was a smart decision on her part. Her policies typically go against what Dave teaches and there isn't much she can say on that show that would convince listeners to change their vote to her.

Unless you can go back and make a spreadsheet of every interview each candidate has given to look for any overlap it's a moot point that Trump accepted this particular interview and Harris declined.
