It is October 1st and this is where we begin the wild ride down the calendar and into 2025. I know some of you live in places where Halloween isn't a big deal or even celebrated. But it is my absolute favorite holiday. All the scary things just really excite me. When I was a child my family always made a big deal about Halloween. My grandmother's birthday was October 30th. It had been many years since I had had a big Halloween celebration but then my Esther was born in 2001 on October 30th. Yes, same day as my grandmother. And we began making her birthday and Halloween a very big deal. Since she's passed it's a very bittersweet month for me. I still love the scary things, the costumes, and kids hunting for candy. But it's also a very painful reminder that Esther is not here anymore. So my mood goes up and down really.
And then us Americans will be onto Thanksgiving in November and then Christmas isn't far behind then either. So the last three months of the year always feel like a big whirlwind for me.
With that said, I know many of us get busy with Christmas crafting. And I want to know if there are any things you are working on for the holidays. I have planned to have an all crochet Christmas tree this year. All my ornaments are done. Some I need to stiffen. I am going to begin working on an angel for the top of my tree. I've got all supplies and my pattern. So I just need to get started. I'm pretty excited about my tree this year.
Anyone else got anything holiday in the works?

I enjoy Halloween too but don’t get into the holiday like so many I know. I carve a Jack-o-Latern & give out candy but that’s about it.
I want to make a crochet small Christmas tree for my sister but I haven’t started it yet. I am out of town a lot this time of year so it’s hard to find crafting time. I really hope I can crochet that tree though.

Sending you big hugs jeremysgirl. Halloween and Samhain are huge in Ireland but we don't celebrate, we went to a Samhain festival once but my fear of people wearing masks overcame me and we had to leave! So embarrassing. The only crafting I've done lately is hand sewing a pumpkin, it's not great but I'll post a picture later. I plan to make more with some scrap fabric, hopefully with practice I can get a good shape. We're moving in with friends at the end of this month, the house we're buying needs a lot of work and they've kindly offered us their spare room for the duration (I love them so much) My friend is a fantastic artist so I'm hoping we can do some projects together.

That's nice of your friends to let you stay while you work some renovations on your new house. Maybe both you and your friend will influence each other and push your creative limits.

I'm sorry that October is such a bittersweet month for you jeremysgirl . My Aunt's birthday (mom's sister) is Oct 30 as well. She will be 86 this year. I should ask my cousin if Halloween was a big deal for them growing up as a result (we grew up in different states so I have no idea). Last night I finished up ornament #3! This is the Ole Miss travel tag and I'll have it made into an ornament for the garland I am trying to create from small needlepoints I've made. Will be dropping this and the Popeye's ornament off with the finisher this week. Next up to work on is this JIF peanut butter canvas. I also plan to start my Peter Ashe Cable Car canvas this month as well. Since this is a special canvas and the stitch chart has several new to me stitches, I'll be signing up for some of the morning classes to get me going. Thankfully it is a 13 mesh and should go fairly quickly (and be easier on my old eyes!) Meanwhile, I am still working on my scrappy string quilt blocks when I have time. Each block takes about 15-20 min. so it's an easy project to fit in when I have time.

This is the Ole Miss travel tag and I'll have it made into an ornament for the garland I am trying to create from small needlepoints I've made. I cannot wait to see the garland all done. It's going to be so cute. lainey that little pumpkin looks perfect to me.

OK, so I have a question. I ordered a "design wall" off of Amazon. I know, I know, I hate Amazon. It is made of felt. I am having the worst time getting my quilt squares to stick to it. I put up my squares the other day and wanted to look at it for a few days before I sewed it all together and by the next morning, half the squares were on the floor. It's making me insane. Would a different fabric do better for this? I stuck it up with stick on/sew on velcro. So I totally could go get another type of fabric (fleece?) and sew on more velcro and stick it up easily. But I need to know what will work because this isn't working for me.
Or am I just asking the impossible?

I will pull it out and pin it to the design wall and see how that goes. Good idea.

I have two foam boards, each 4x8 with batting stapled to them, Quilt blocks stay fine, but I have to pin larger sections to keep them on it. There are some super cute felt design walls available now that look like a huge quilt block when not in use.

I want to build the Harry Potter Christmas village legos. It's not crafty, but I think they're so cute. We'll see if I actually do so.
Apart from that, I should peruse the craft store websites and see if there's a fun Christmas craft to do that I can put out for decoration.

jeremysgirl, did you finish your Halloween afghan, or did I miss you sharing it? I am still working on my crocheted Yuletide blanket for my grandson who is due in mid December. I'm almost finished--just need to finish up the border and weave in some ends. I am going to make a hat to match. I have so many cute blanket/hat sets I want to make for him. Way more than I have time for, but this one is going to be next: I may just make a blanket though. I showed my daughter a different set with a hat/pouch, and she said she didn't like the pouch.

did you finish your Halloween afghan, or did I miss you sharing it? I never even started. I have all the supplies and I'm sure I eventually will. I've just been limping along right now, barely crafting. I just can't seem to get my mojo going much.

Longshot but did anyone order Fat Quarter Shop's Spooky Box? I am such a sucker for a surprise plus you know how much I love Halloween. I'm tempted, so tempted to order it this morning. But I have so much I need to do that I just can't seem to justify anything right now.

Just remind yourself that in a few months there will be another box that you love just as much. And then another and another and another! There is no end to the fabric lines and boxes you are going to fall in love with or want, but unless you have a specific immediate need, give yourself permission to pass on it. I've lost count of how many things I've just had to have that are still sitting in my stash years later. Fortunately for me I can easily avoid those surprise boxes because I have to know what I'm getting. Same thing with quilt classes, I never sign up for those surprise quilts where you just start sewing with the fabric given.

I'm making progress on my Faded Painted Roses crochet blanket. All 108 blocks are completed, yarn ends dealt with, all blocks made into rows and am down to the last few rows to join together, should be done today.
Will then have to make a decision about the border, use the pattern border or delve into Edie Eckman's border book? Decisions, decisions!

In answer to your border question....by the time I get to that part on a patchwork blanket, I need to put it away for a few months because I'm too mentally exhausted to finish. 😂

That is so cute Lianna! What a good idea. Hello October crafters. I don't think I did anything in September, too much family stuff going on and for most of October I need to be catching up with paperwork but hopefully something will be created. Just remembered, I covered the pages for a mini-album and just need to finish off the embellishments and photos so that might happen shortly. Nothing Holiday themed being planned here. I have fallen for this mosaic blanket and this one oh, and this shawl but I am keeping my finger away from the buy trigger. For now.

I love Halloween! All things fall really, but Halloween has always been my favorite. I love the costumes, pumpkin patches, and special sweet treats (our local pumpkin farm makes the most amazing apple cider slushies & caramel apples). For various reasons my life is always a bit hectic in October and I find I don't get to really enjoy the Halloween season as much as I'd like to. So this year I'm rescheduling some things and purposely keeping my October activities slim so that I can actually do what I want to do. A few years ago I started seeing people making these candle scenes out of pool noodles and I really wanted to try it. But, because of life I just never had the time. And even though I could do it in the spring I'm not the kind of crafter that likes to work on holiday stuff in the off season. This year I finally had a chance to do it and I'm really pleased with how my candles came out! I may swap out the skull and eliminate the orange for green. I haven't quite decided yet. Because I like it, but it's just quite different from the rest of my decorations.
