I finished this last month but wanted to wait until October to post. This thing gave me a run for my money. I had it sewn together but couldn’t get it square. I ended up taking all the blocks apart and re-sewing. I think it’s so cute!!

It is October 1st and this is where we begin the wild ride down the calendar and into 2025. I know some of you live in places where Halloween isn't a big deal or even celebrated. But it is my absolute favorite holiday. All the scary things just really excite me. When I was a child my family always made a big deal about Halloween. My grandmother's birthday was October 30th. It had been many years since I had had a big Halloween celebration but then my Esther was born in 2001 on October 30th. Yes, same day as my grandmother. And we began making her birthday and Halloween a very big deal. Since she's passed it's a very bittersweet month for me. I still love the scary things, the costumes, and kids hunting for candy. But it's also a very painful reminder that Esther is not here anymore. So my mood goes up and down really. And then us Americans will be onto Thanksgiving in November and then Christmas isn't far behind then either. So the last three months of the year always feel like a big whirlwind for me. With that said, I know many of us get busy with Christmas crafting. And I want to know if there are any things you are working on for the holidays. I have planned to have an all crochet Christmas tree this year. All my ornaments are done. Some I need to stiffen. I am going to begin working on an angel for the top of my tree. I've got all supplies and my pattern. So I just need to get started. I'm pretty excited about my tree this year. Anyone else got anything holiday in the works? It was always my favorite too! For years we had a huge Halloween party, with either a live band or a DJ, in our huge shop, that I loved! Different themes each year, and would spend a month or two before making props. It was epic! SO epic that we lived in a small town and the local bar (the one and only) quit having their Halloween party and live band and would close at 6 that night because everyone would be at my party. Even though they weren't invited! The last 2 years I did it, I specified to those invited it was invitation only and to PLEASE not invite their friends or bring anyone else. Yet it still happened. The last straw when I finally quit was when the party was over, the band had stopped playing, packed up and LEFT, lights were turn on, and there was still about 25 people still there, THAT I DIDN'T EVEN KNOW! I said to one of my (adult) sons friends, when the hell are they going to leave?! He said you want them to leave? I said yes, and he shouted, "THE PARTY'S OVER, YOU ALL NEED TO LEAVE". That was the last time I had it. (In fact, last year when I switched insurance companies, the lady asked my name and address then she said 'OH! I've been to 2 of your Halloween parties; they're awesome! What's the theme this year?'. Mind you, this was 30 miles from where I live). I have tons of pictures of props and the party and costumes that were so awesome from various years that I still look at now and then and remember how fun it was.

I love Halloween! All things fall really, but Halloween has always been my favorite. I love the costumes, pumpkin patches, and special sweet treats (our local pumpkin farm makes the most amazing apple cider slushies & caramel apples). For various reasons my life is always a bit hectic in October and I find I don't get to really enjoy the Halloween season as much as I'd like to. So this year I'm rescheduling some things and purposely keeping my October activities slim so that I can actually do what I want to do. A few years ago I started seeing people making these candle scenes out of pool noodles and I really wanted to try it. But, because of life I just never had the time. And even though I could do it in the spring I'm not the kind of crafter that likes to work on holiday stuff in the off season. This year I finally had a chance to do it and I'm really pleased with how my candles came out! I may swap out the skull and eliminate the orange for green. I haven't quite decided yet. Because I like it, but it's just quite different from the rest of my decorations. It looks great! I've done something similar, but with PVC pipe, with hot glue dripped down it then spray painted.

jeremysgirl I'm so sorry October is such a rough month for you. There's just no way around those hard dates. I lost a very dear friend 10 years ago in September, and every year the reminders are there. His birthday was also in September and when I see all the homecoming photos I remember that he died the night of his daughter's first homecoming dance. I thought by now I would be signing up for Craft Fairs and Markets to sell my clay earrings, but that has all been put on hold. I took vacation Labor Day week as we were working on a board and batten project in our foyer. Sadly, that is still not done, I just need to paint and it will be. Then my DD decided it was time for her to move out to her first apartment, so I began touring apartments with her. Then I started going through and organizing stuff she was taking, to see what else she needed and looking for furniture off FB Marketplace, which turned into refinishing furniture. Then I got Covid! Got my DD moved in Oct 4 and now I am working on all my crafts for Halloween, which I love! I am turning my basement into a Witch's Lair and my other DD is having a Halloween party on Oct 25. I started turning all the Willow Tree figurines into witches as saw that trend on Tik Tok last year. Working on a bunch of apothecary jars for our built in shelves. And a bubble cauldron and a skeleton in a bathtub with the clear ornament balls. I could take off the whole month of October and be busy the whole time! Hope I get this all done.

Last night I finished another needlepoint ornament. This time it was the Jif peanut butter jar. Ending up being a fun and quick finish. I think all the colors are what broke it up and made it less tedious. Next up is the Cafe du Monde ornament. That one has special meaning as it has been part of our life since we were dating!

Yes, OK, I have a package of batting in my closet. I will pull it out and pin it to the design wall and see how that goes. Good idea. That's what I use. Works great!

Thank you for the link **GypsyGirl**, I went straight to the best in show as I don't have time to watch the full video and anyway, I like seeing your photos! I will be interested to read your opinion of it when you get to see it. It seems quite extraordinary to me, both in the size and detail. I really like the back!

Well here is my weekend craft results - 60 sunflower centre ends sewn in, 20 more to go. I finished crocheting them all yesterday and started sewing ends in, and today is a holiday Monday here so I'm finishing sewing all the rest in. Debating sewing in as I go or leaving until the end as I add the darker yellow and then the lighter yellow. I have WAY more yarn than her pattern suggested - she said 2 balls of 50g each for the dark brown so I doubled that for 2 blankets. I have barely used a second ball, and have two untouched lol.

Just an enabler post..... Panda Yarns is having her annual sale - 15% off everything but gift cards. That includes custom colourway creations!! I contacted her a couple weeks ago for colour help - I want to do a holiday Hooked on Sunshine that goes with all my main tree ornaments. So I took a photo of them (they range from silver to navy, with an array of blues/teal) and she sent me a list of what went well together. I'm adding a silver glitter thread to it as well yay! Each cake she does comes in a variety of lengths - she does 500 up to 1650 for her 4 ply. And they are SO pretty!! Here's her link: Panda YarnAnd this is the set she put together for me:

Hi ladies! I'm not a contributor to your monthly craft threads, as I'm in a (sad) season of life that I don't have a lot of crafting time. But I try to come on every month and see the amazing work that you all do. You are a talented group of ladies!
I am wanting to make my 2 year old nice a crocheted doll for Christmas that has interchangeable clothes. The clothes don't need to be crocheted, I can sew them. But I can't find any patterns where the doll doesn't look scary. I've searched ravelry and a few random google searches. Does anyone have any suggestions for patterns that you're already aware of, or suggestions for where/how to search?

I enjoy Halloween too but don’t get into the holiday like so many I know. I carve a Jack-o-Latern & give out candy but that’s about it. I want to make a crochet small Christmas tree for my sister but I haven’t started it yet. I am out of town a lot this time of year so it’s hard to find crafting time. I really hope I can crochet that tree though. There are so many directions my brain wants to go with a crochet Christmas tree. Any chance you have a pattern or picture? Jeremy'sgirl, I hope you're enjoying October so far, and that it will bring you joy rather than sorrow to keep the memories of your lost loved one alive for the remainder of the month. I have several free Christmas ornament patterns you are welcome to use, if they would be of interest to you. One of them is a crochet Christmas tree shape, but I'm thinking this probably isn't what you had in mind for the Christmas tree, haha. That link takes you to a symbol crochet chart + instructions for crocheting the flat shape; it's fairly obvious how to make it into an ornament, but I also have a picture and instructions HERE if needed. Scary things aren't really my jam, but I do have a free crochet skull pattern that's pretty quick to make. I really enjoyed seeing everyone's recent work! The peanut butter jar made me smile! And those quilts -- just WOW!! Lately I've been working on crocheting fingerless gloves and coffee cup cozies. (I don't have pics ready on the fingerless gloves yet, and I took better pics of the coffee cup cozy, but I haven't edited them yet.)

amysolovay I am talking about doing crochet ornaments on a real, live tree. I did make all sorts of ornaments. I've got enough. I just need to make the angel for the tree topper.

I'm stalling this morning. I got my quilt momentum going yesterday. And I dragged out another quilt top that I should finish. I even went out yesterday and bought buttons to put on it near the applique. And I'm stalling...because applique... I want to run into my craft room and pull out a bunch of yarn and make little granny squares all day. To avoid that applique. Who's got words of wisdom for me? gillyp wellway **GypsyGirl** DEX I know I'm forgetting much more of you guys.
