What are your favorite Reddit sections? Or whatever the different areas are called? I haven’t been an avid user for very long, but last night my earphones were not working on my iPad so I went to Reddit to just read and look at pictures since I could not hear the sound in a movie.
I just discovered a new one last night and while I am finding it very interesting, I am looking at the pictures with my gag reflex almost triggered with some of the photos.
What I found last night is called r/MedicalGore.
First, doctors do some amazing things in the operating room. There was someone who suffered a shark bite while water skiing and looking at the first picture, you don’t think the person can be saved. But as incredibly bloody and torn apart as this leg was, there were no broken bones and the amazing medical team repaired this guy back to being able to walk again.
And second, we have some incredibly ignorant people living among us. The things people do to their own body is shocking. The photos of injuries and illnesses are very bad, but the recipient of those injuries did not do anything to intentionally cause their injury. Most injuries are the result of an accident.
But the people that injected themselves with weird substances, resulting in some serious disfiguring problems just make me shake my head. You want to know what they were thinking. The second photo currently on the site right now shows a man who injected his scrotum with paraffin wax. On purpose. And it swelled up to the size of a 9-month pregnant belly. Pregnant with triplets. I cannot imagine how he managed to put off going to a hospital as long as he did. You would think he would go as soon as it became apparent that it was starting to swell. I don’t think he could walk, the swelling is so bad.
The pictures on the section are shocking so don’t open this while at work or when you have children nearby. Or when you are eating anything. The photos are gory, just like the title says, but what I found fascinating were the series of photos showing the initial injury, then progress photos during the surgery, and finally how it looks when the healing is finished or close to it. These surgeons are miracle workers. And the disease/illness photos are very interesting too, as long as you have a strong tolerance for this type of picture.
Prior to finding this medical gore, I would read the “Am I The Asshole” posts. Well, just some of them because you can easily get overwhelmed with human nature in that section. I also enjoy the r/InstantKarms site, watching people get caught doing something illegal or mean and having to pay the price for it is satisfying. But my favorite has been r/Damnthatsinteresting. I’ve learned some very interesting things there.
So what are your favorite Reddit sections to check out?
