Trigger Warning: this is a horrific rape case currently underway in France I searched but couldn't find anything about the Gisele Pelicot rape case being discussed. The strength and dignity of this woman is beyond words. That she wants all the light shining on this case makes her a hero. Her insistence that the trial be public, her name published, that graphic videos be shown and her husband and his co-defendants be exposed for exactly who they are so there is no doubt, no gray area, no excuses or questions about what rape is. If you don't know the background, her husband was investigated/arrested for taking photos up women's skirts in a supermarket. The investigation uncovered a file on his computer that held thousands of photos/videos of him and other men raping his unconscious wife. There are 50+ defendants in this case. She wants the public "to look rape straight in the eyes" and move the shame from the victim to the perpetrators. Vox storyAP

She is indeed very brave. I hope all her rapists are brought to justice.

Oh my God. This brave woman! Yet, the videos aren't being shown to the public. Not that I'd expect them to be, but hopefully without the video proof, people will realize just how awful it all was! And some of those men thought it was okay because her husband gave consent. SMDH!

This makes me beyond any realm of sick. Just when I don't think men can get any viler. What a horrible excuse for a human is her husband! I hope they are all found guilty and spend lots of time in prison. That woman is beyond brave.

What in the actual fuck...he was drugging her and having other men rape her? Ave filming it? Why? For a weird fix? Were they paying for this? Wondering how else one man might know 50 other men who would like to have sex with their unconscious wife. Bizarre and disgusting. Get a sex doll if that's what you're into.

I'm appalled at the excuses these men are trying to use. Like what 3boysnme posted about husband giving consent counts or that they thought she was in on it and pretending to be out of it, or even that they were tricked into it. They have identified around d 50 men involved, but said there are approximately 20 videos where the man can't be identified, at least not yet. They have reported that she was treated 4 times for STDs. I truly hope that this case and how she is insisting that as much be shown to the public as allowed will ruin each and every one of these men. It is all so utterly despicable.

Holy hell:
“As an example, he mentioned hearing several defendants earlier this week testify they had come to the Pelicots’ house in Provence to have consensual sexual intercourse, and that they were taking part in a “game” to see if they could get Gisèle Pelicot to wake up.”

Just to add that they also found photos of his adult daughter naked on his computer. This was made known to the public on the first day of the trial. He had been spying on her when she still lived at home (10+ years ago) and was trading them as such online (the woman being his own daughter). He also drugged her, like he did with his wife, multiple times to take more explicit photos as she was unconscious.
Gisèle is receiving a massive wave of support in France. She has insisted and fought to let the graphic videos and pictures of her countless rapes be shown to the public at the trial (no cameras allowed in the courtroom). This is usually not the case in France (the public attending is asked to leave the room) but she challenged the judicial system to make sure the public and press attending could witness the horror she's been through and how unconscious she was (actually snoring in some of the videos).
Gisèle has been exposed not only to "regular" STDs but also HIV. She has tested negative for HIV since the discovery of the rape material but we know from the identified men in the rape videos that she was exposed to HIV 6 times. Possibly more as some men remain unidentified.

Ever since this broke the thought that has stuck with me is that not one of those men stopped and thought "No...I have to report this. I cannot allow it to go on" I know that some got to the home and decided not to go through with it, not having realised quite what the situation, and left, but really? Not one of them went against all the other men (who were all fairly local I believe) and decided to help to stop this horrific situation?

There is just no punishment I can think of that is good enough for this horrible human. They are going to need to bring back those medieval torture devices to possibly get a crack at just punishment.

Wow! That's heartbreaking that she has endured those atrocities at the hand of someone who supposedly loved her (and their daughter- OMG!). I can't believe her bravery and wanting EVERYTHING to be shown/shared. She's for sure a PISSED OFF WOMAN and I applaud her for her actions on this. Hopefully the perpetrators and rapists will spend a VERY long time in jail with some very good friends taking advantage of them on the regular.

For anyone not aware, most men were found through a very, very seedy website (coco.gg). It was a chat website used almost exclusively for criminal and/or unethical activities including but not limited to child SA, drugs, ambushing LGBTQ people (mostly gay men), ordering hits, revenge porn, etc.
The men that raped her and are claiming innocence were the kind to hand around on this sordid website. They did not "accidentally" stumble upon a kinky ad. They were never going to turn the husband in. They knew exactly what went on in those chat rooms.
Coco.gg has since been shut down by the justice system.

This is disgusting and so disappointing. And apparently the punishment for rape is not harsh enough to make man stop and think about if the excitement of raping someone out weighs the punishment. Maybe it should be castration instead of a few years in jail! Let's see how 'hard' they will think about it.

What a sick F’er her husband is! I am not easily shocked, but this story did it. I watch a lot of true crime stories for some reason, but have never come across a situation like this where a man pimps out his unconscious wife to other men found on the internet! It is beyond disgusting. I want every one of their faces to be published in the papers for everyone to see. This woman is so strong! I love that she is refusing to protect the men by having a closed trial, even though it will undoubtedly be hard for her to see what was done to her while she was unconscious. Good for her. She will be helping other rape victims be strong too.

I think she is extraordinary. My hope for her is that receives the justice she seeks and a peaceful, safe future.
I can't begin to imagine how she will cope with the extent of the betrayal and abuse to which she was subjected. Her marriage was a lie, the man she thought knew was a mirage, she can not look back and remember family events without wondering if they were really true. He not only abused her but he robbed her of her past memories.
The only saving grace is that he has pleaded guilty and appears to want to take quite a few others down with him. Not enough of them though.

I wondered if she felt 'off' physically? Maybe the husband made sure to have relations with her the same day so she wouldn't be suspicious?
I also can't believe he did this to someone he was married to for 50 years!

Yet, the videos aren't being shown to the public. They are. Well, a select number are. She fought to have them shown in open court (with press and public present) rather than a closed courtroom with only lawyers & defendants present. They aren't available for anyone to download and watch. I've seen a few version of the why, but it basically always comes down to, according to him, she wasn't receptive to opening up their sex lives to new things. this is why we choose the bear! not having realised quite what the situation I messed up the quote and sleepingbooty answered it below. I'm not sure I believe any of them being charged really walked away, but they 100% knew what they were coming to his house to do. They did not "accidentally" stumble upon a kinky ad. They were never going to turn the husband in. They knew exactly what went on in those chat rooms. The men that raped her and are claiming innocence were the kind to hand around on this sordid website. They did not "accidentally" stumble upon a kinky ad. They were never going to turn the husband in. They knew exactly what went on in those chat rooms. Gah, I'm messing these quotes (or quick quotes is messing with me). How did she find out this was happening? The police questioned her after finding the "abuse" file on her husband's computer. I can't imagine how horrifying it was for her to be shown and asked about the photos/videos. I wondered if she felt 'off' physically? Yes, she did. She was having memory loss and side effects from being drugged. sleepingbooty, thanks for your insight and details. Will the defendants names only be released if they are convicted?

Exactly what freaks. I hope they all get what they deserve and that her husband never gets out of jail. This is the most horrendous thing I have heard of like this.
I just assumed this one someone younger but to find out that they are an older couple and had been married for 50 years and have kids and grandkids and it went on for years and possibly other victims - oh this man and accomplices are even sicker. Wow just wow. I hope she and daughter if she was a victim or the grandkids I really hope they can get closure not that I can think of anything at this point that would be enough to ever feel safe again.

Thank you for sharing this - I hadn't seen it. She is incredibly brave and I salute her strength through this nightmare! There is no hell sufficient for the "husband" may his days be filled with fear that he will have the justice he deserves.

According to the article that seaexplorer posted, the husband was caught trying to take photos of women wearing skirts...upskirt I think it was called?...in shopping centers. His phone was confiscated and all the photos and videos and everything else - because he was such a meticulous record keeper thank God! - were discovered.

sleepingbooty, thanks for your insight and details. Will the defendants names only be released if they are convicted? The names are known. They are public knowledge. The list was posted outside the courtroom when the trial started. It's a legal requirement. However, the media has to follow certain rules to avoid being sued for diffamation or causing "harcèlement moral" (psychological harrassment AKA bullying, not only to the defendants but also to their families). The list is out there and has been massively relayed on social media by private citizens (I believe it was shared over 25 000 times right after the trial begun, it must be significantly more by now). It's no secret, just a form of gag order for the media. Private citizens could also be sued for publicly posting the names but I just don't see how this is likely to happen considering the amount of sharers. ETA: Several feminist and sexual abuse victim defense collectives have taken it upon themselves to risk being sued by posting the list publicly online with their organisation's name attached to it to make a point. If you're interested, here's the list as posted by one of these. No, you don't risk anything for reading the names or clicking the link, rest assured.

He was keeping the photos and videos of all of his crimes because they're currency online as well. Beyond the crimes, they're trading materials to obtain either other people's perverse recordings or heighten one's status within a community/chat room (such as gaining access to exclusive private chat rooms). His wife and his daughter's naked bodies will be out there, being traded for other photos by other people, forever. It's a neverending cycle of these recordings and pics being traded and the victims being revictimised day after day. It's truly horrific.
