I know at least one other Pea is on this.
My doctor isn't very forthcoming. I really need to look for another PP. Anyway, he put me on Ozempic. I just took my second dose.
My question is...does it cause constipation? All week I've been all over the place. I'm usually fairly regular. Some days my stomach aches because I need to go and I can't. Other days, I have very loose stool. I'm wondering if anyone else taking this has the same experiences and what do they do. I just took 2 Ex-lax tabs.
TIA!

I'm not on Ozempic but my understanding is that those type of medications slow down digestion. If so, then yes that will cause constipation. Make sure you are drinking enough water. Also up your fiber intake.

I’m on Mounjaro, but you should definitely increase your water intake and fiber like scrappinmama suggested. I’ve found some creators on TikTok with very helpful advice. The side effects can be wild as you increase dosage levels, and vary injection sites.

Thank you!
I've been taking a prebiotic and a probiotic capsule every day. I can take Metamucil capsules as well. But that might be too much. I get about 100 oz of water a day. Should I up that?

I know some people take a fiber capsule with each meal. I eat more fibrous vegetables daily, and have Greek yogurt for breakfast (I’m lactose intolerant, so that helps😂), Everyone responds differently, you just have to find something that works for you. Most doctors don’t prescribe these meds enough to be able to guide you through the varying side effects. Right now, I’m struggling to even eat enough, as the first couple days after an injection make me terribly nauseous.

It passed after a couple of days. But the digestion issues lingered. I don't eat enough fiber rich foods, that's for sure. It's probably why I'm having to take a diabetic med. I didn't want to go back on Metformin. I'll start taking the Meta Musil caps tomorrow. Right now, because I took the Ex-lax tabs, I'll let that work thru my system and go from there. Thank you.

I take tirzepatide but yes, it can cause constipation until you get "used to" your dose. I rarely have this problem anymore but when needed, I take a senna/docusate pill which is a gentle laxative with a stool softener.
Generally, a trip to McDs is all I need to get "going" now! Fatty foods in general don't sit very well with me anymore.
I've been on a maintenance dose (the lowest dose) for a long time now and don't generally experience any side effects.

I have been on Mounjaro for almost a year. I take a probiotic and Magnesium Glycinate at night, which helps. Also eating over 105 grams of protein in a day and of course water and electrolytes. If I get in a bloat/stuck mode, I have ice cream. For some reason, this does the trick! I follow www.tiktok.com/@justloseit2024 on TikTok and she has a FB group as well. By following her when I first started, I learned more than any doctor could tell me. The one thing I like about Kelly's journey, is she has done the research! And you can always send her emails with questions and she answers.

There is an FB page called Ozempic Support Group-Diabetics Only that usually has really good info on everything Ozempic. I learned a lot when I first started Ozempic to get my A1C down. I have had most of the side effects but sticking it out and I am off all meds except Ozempic. diarrhea, constipation and nausea are the big three. Docusate with send otc held either the constipation-follow the directions on the bottle. Increase your fiber intake, probiotics and prebiotics help with diarrhea. Carbs are an enemy and fried foods will now be something you will pay for the next day. You will need to be sure to eat enough proteins! Good eating and small meals prevent most of the nausea but at the beginning of each dose increase I had to get a prescription for zofran. I am stabilized at 1 mg every 9 days instead of every week. It works for me. For some people weight loss is good but not everyone will lose weight. If you are doing it for the weight loss, this is not the med for you. There are others that work better for that. Good luck.

Thanks everyone! It's not for weight loss, although it would be a benefit for sure. My A1C is over 10%. I also have HBP. So I need to take something so I don't die anytime soon. I was in the hospital a couple of weeks ago and my blood pressure was really high. I couldn't concentrate, I felt very dizzy and thought I having a stroke. Doctor put me on Losartan and Ozempic. I'm horrible at taking medicines. I'm trying to do better and just want to make sure I am successful at this new stage in my life. Thanks again! I appreciate you!

Yes, constipation is a big issue with these meds. Every night I take 2 magnesium capsules, a stool softener and a probiotic.
Also, be sure to keep an eye on your blood pressure. I was on 2 different meds for HBP, but mine dropped fairly quickly when starting this med, and I had to lower one of my meds (now taking 1/2).

heckofagal Thank you for bringing up that point! I hadn't been keeping track of it. I have a cuff but have no idea where it is at the moment. Time to look for it and make sure it works!

I have IBS-C with occasionally IBS-D. You need to add a fiber supplement and take a small amount of Miralax every couple of days (don't take too much at first). Products like Exlax are horrible and are a stimulant which can cause other problems. Miralax works really well. Colace does absolutely nothing. You also have to drink a ton of water.
