We already caved. It went down to 35 at night here already.
BUT we have 70s coming back within the upcoming week, so we'll be turning it on and off for awhile.
There have been years when we made it to November. But not the last few years--it's been chilly earlier.

We were at 66 in the house this morning. (Kansas) DH and I are opposites. I can deal with cold. He caves in first.
I can't be too hot inside. (Outside hot is fine! LOL) I usually want the A/C on this spring faster than he does.
With the price of things right now, we are bundling up more and more to save $$!

We love the transitional time of year, it's our favorite sleeping weather.
I don't gauge it on the thermostat though. It takes several days of cold to make the house feel cold. Like the floors, counters, furniture have to get cold before we turn the heat on. It's been cool for a few days now, but the stuff isn't cold yet. And it's going to warm up again, so the heat will stay off.

Ha! I love that others play chicken with the heat as well.
My place is super drafty, and I’m pretty sure I’m going to need to turn it on in the mornings later this week when we have some cooler nights.
Back in the day when I lived in normal, not terribly drafty, homes I could often hold out until mid November.

We've had possible freeze warnings the last 2 nights and our bedroom windows are still cracked. >.< I'm the reverse when it's the A/C though. I cannot sleep if it's too hot, so we'll put that sucker on if the house is going to be higher than 74.

Sometimes we go back and forth which is easy to do with a heat pump. We switched from cool to heat last week. Our morning temps are now in the 30's and there was a light frost on my roof this morning. But it is supposed to be warm again next week. I don't think we will go back to air conditioning but we might.
I put the electric blanket on last week and it's heavenly.

It’s chilly right now but suppose to go back to high 60s, mid 70s by Friday and remain there through next week. Looks like I may make it to November before I have to turn the heat on. You're stalwart! We have the same temps as you but I turned our heat on today. It's forced hot air so easy on and off. We used to have radiant heat in last house and wouldn't turn it on until it was going to be on for the winter.

DH ran ours this past Sunday to burn off dust and then he checked it and changed the filter. I turned it on yesterday morning because it was in the low 60s inside when we got up and it was a grey/rainy damp day. Its supposed to be 33 this week, so it's staying on and running as needed.

But this morning our thermostat is 64!!! How is southern California colder than Ontario? It was 61 this morning and will be lows into the 50s for the rest of the week. The temp rises to the high 69/72 (21C) during the day, so no furnace needed yet. Our transition is usually a few weeks having the gas fireplace on in the evening before the furnace gets kicked on to take the morning chill off. DH is a little obsessive about getting past Thanksgiving, or even better, Christmas but isn't home as much as me. I put on the heat and AC as needed. DH stopped objecting too much when I pointed out we have some meds in the family that needed to be stored at certain temperatures so it isn't about all about me.

I prefer a cold house. Grew up in a cold house, and always lived in one. Therefore I don’t really use heater or AC.

No playing chicken here…and as I get older I say what the heck and turn it on when I am cold. So my heat has been on for weeks.

The temps dipped to 49 this morning and that was enough for me to turn on the furnace. It will drop below freezing tonight, so I'm leaving it on again tomorrow. But I'm in Kansas, so it will be one day on, then when day off for the next few weeks until it finally stays cold.

I should clarify - it was 64 in the house lol. I didn't look up what it was outside but we did get frost last night so it was around 4C when I was looking at the thermostat - which makes it about 39 outside!

The rule is that if I am cold I put the heater on , it’s my house I want to be comfortable in it . I mean, I think most people do the same. We just try to hold off as long as possible. It is currently 69 degrees in my bedroom. For sleeping purposes, that is pretty good. When we wake up in the morning, it will be chillier, but wont turn the heat on for the 75 minutes between getting up and leaving the house. When I wfh later in the week, I will need to put the heat on if it is still that cold

I cannot sleep in a hot stuffy house. My ac stays on 67 until it's cold enough for heat, which being here in SC is not for at least a few weeks yet. Even in winter, the heat doesn't go above 64. I hate being too hot. And I've lived in some old farmhouses in the mountains of western NC that didn't have central heat so I got used to cold, cold houses. It was so cold one winter the water in my toilet bowl froze solid! It was so cold inside that house that the kitchen would fog up when I opened the fridge because the fridge temp was warmer than the air in the kitchen. In comparison, 64 feels pretty balmy nowadays. lol

I have a strict "no heater in October" rule I try my best to adhere to. This year I don't foresee any problems with it since it was 100 degrees just a few days ago. The forecast is still showing low to mid 80s for the next ten days.

Well.... Wednesday, October 16th, we caved and turned it on this morning. It was 41 degrees outside and 58 degrees in the house. We had windows opened until yesterday so the house was cold. I'll keep it on to take the chill off the house but won't keep it on automatic, not yet.

I should clarify that when my heat is on, it's set at 60*. That is comfortable for us. So far the house has dipped to 58 one overnight but warmed up during the day. It's currently 63* in my house. And the weather is saying Sat - Wed of next week will all be in the 70's with 3 days at 75* and the overnights will be high 40s/low 50s. So I don't anticipate putting the heat on next week either. I can probably ride it out until the overnights are consistently in the 30s with daytime temps in the 60s. When that happens the house just doesn't warm up enough during the day. Looking at my extended forecast, I don't know if I'll beat last year's 11/10 date. I saw a bunch of TTs last night about New England folks playing chicken with the thermostat
