If we had a smaller card exchange over here - in addition to the larger exchange, NOT an either or thing because I definitely do not want to pull people away from the regular one, would anyone be interested? For those who would like to do an exchange, but the idea of sending to 50 people might seem daunting. Also for those who want more controlled access to their address?
Bad idea, good idea, or indifferent?
What prompted this question is that I’ve been wondering for a while if I’m up to doing the big exchange this year. I’ve done it for probably 8 years, so it’s hard to let it go. HOWEVER, I’ve been dealing with frozen shoulder (right side) for about 6 months, and my heart (and arm) just isn’t into making that many cards. I did do the summer and autumn exchanges, but those were about half the size of the holiday one.
Please let me know your HONEST thoughts and thanks!
ETA: I would check with TC (who runs the card exchange) to make sure she’d be comfortable with it. My hope is that it would NOT draw any of us who usually participate in the bigger one away from it. If it did that, I’d feel horrible about it!

I would honestly like a smaller exchange. We have a lot on our plate right now financially with ds needing a lot of adult stuff (state ID, lawyer for SSI, lawyer for conservatorship, opening checking/savings for payments, reimbursement rec program, etc) and the thought of paying for 50+ stamps makes me nervous.
I keep going back and forth if I want to participate and know I am not expected to send to all 50+. I say plus because I always sign up for both which totals 80-100 peas as I don't want round 2 to be too small and TC always combines if those want to take that on.
But a smaller one would be wonderful. We all love looking at the cards and I love hanging them on the door.

I would sign up for a smaller exchange on this side of the board. If for some reason it doesn’t end up happening, I will still send you a card pantsonfire

I find the big exchanges a bit overwhelming (mostly receiving too many cards) so I would consider a smaller one with card crafty friends. I think a lot of you are already on my Christmas list anyway!

Yes, please!! LOVE the idea!
I started participating in the quarterly card exchanges over on NSBR early last year. While there are some GS Peas who participate, there were a lot of new names to me at first. But most quarters top out at around 25 with mostly frequent/repeat participants, so I felt like I got to "know" the Peas in the exchanges and two dozen cards is a nice easy round number.
The holiday exchange round one, at twice the size, was not only much more overwhelming, that additional folks were pretty much all new to me. The connection/emotional satisfaction/whatever you want to call that wasn't there as much for me.
I will continue to participate in the winter/Valentine's, spring, summer, and fall/Halloween exchanges over on NSBR, but the idea of a holiday exchange here on General Scrapbooking/Stamping & Cardmaking sounds stupendous to me. Even if it does get as large as 50 participants, they would be the Peas I interact with regularly, which would really add to the specialness. Yes, I am one of those goopy goobers at the holidays, sorry (not sorry).
Also, I think it would be good to add to this exchange the disclaimers that TC puts on the NSBR exchanges: you can choose what kind of card you send (handmade, photo, purchased, whatever), do what you can/you may send more cards than you receive. The idea being that it should be fun and not stress anybody out either in terms of time or money.

I would be interested in a smaller exchange. I miss the Halloween and Christmas swaps some of us did last couple of years, (those were not cards), although I was too busy to have done them this year. The thought of doing the big card exchanges has always overwhelmed me!

I’d be in but I honestly can’t do both. I have a small list of Peas that I send to anyway whether they’re in the swap or not.

Ok. It looks like there is some interest in what appears to be a very small little card exchange. Let me reach out to TC and see what she thinks about it. In the meanwhile, please post to this thread if interested and I’ll reach out through a group chat to confirm once I hear back from her. Thanks!

In theory, if TC is not interested, someone on this side who's interested and has reasonable competence with Google docs or something could put it together, right?
I'm on a Mac using the Apple suite of apps, but I could probably create the lists in those formats (since I download TC's most quarters), if someone could convert them to apps that play nicely with others....
It might make sense to post on the main GS board as well to see if there anyone's interested in a small exchange.

I don’t imagine it’ll be more than 10 of us. Back in the day I managed the big card exchange (and made the “rules” with the help of past participants) so this will be easy.

I didn't understand why you needed to find out what TC thought and assumed you meant "find out what she thinks about running another one." MY DH tells me I'm always making those kinds of assumptions....

What I have done the last several years is participate in TC's exchange but I don't always send to everyone on the list. Over time I have developed a list that I edit periodically that runs to about 50 cards. I think we should be sensitive to TC - she started her exchange a few years ago because of a HUGE controversy over the existing one that led to some people leaving the board. Lots of hurt feelings, name calling and so on.

Well actually I do, I don’t want anyone to have hurt feelings about not getting lots of cards, KWIM? I thought I was trying to be sensitive to TC. If anyone thinks otherwise PLEASE say so either here or privately. I’m happy to remove this thread and forget about. HONEST. Just a little FYI, I actually started this card exchange and took care of it for several years. TC was kind enough to take it over (and added quarterly exchanges) when I decided I’d had enough of all the nonsense swirling around. I’d thought this was all put to bed years ago.

I don't see any issues with a smaller, board specific card swap. Those who participate here are free to sign up for the other one too.
The issue around the old holiday swap was the check list and mean girl vibe. As well as a pea using it to create controversy because her dh is/was a police officer. She is the one who caused the uproar because peas didn't want to use their full name or use a PO box instead of their home mailbox.
It has nothing to do with other card swaps.
I don't think it is insensitive to TC and the other swap.
We actually had 2 remember? A small one capped at 25 and then the large one that at times was 110-120 peas.
And some peas did both.
I personally love the idea of a smaller one this year. Plus it will be more personal like the quarter swaps. Not overwhelming and fun.

Just a FYI, once TC has seen my message to her and been able to read this thread, I’m going to remove it (if I can figure out how to do it!) I really don’t feel like creating any further controversy with this idea, and I apologize for any I have already.
Before deleting I will make note of those who have posted interest and will reach out privately to let you know if we’re a go or not. If you haven’t specifically said yes, I’d like to do it this year, but just liked or made another comment to this thread, this is the time to do so. Thanks girls!

I believe you have to ask admin to do it. Not sure if the SB admins can do it or just the 1 pea who started the site. Maybe reach out to the pea admins of the scrapbook section.

I'd be interested IF it is ok if I send store bought cards. I suck at card making, but the smaller group is something I would like to participate in, but not sure I am good enough at card making to send to anyone other than my kids, lol.

The rules would be the same as for the big exchange, aka very loosey-goosey and created by the peas. Store bought cards are totally welcomed of course.

I would be interested in a smaller group exchange. My time will be limited, and although we're not required to send to everyone, I feel bad when I receive so many more than I'm able to send. Please count me in.
