I have a lot of stress in my life right now. I noticed I shop online when I am super stressed. I justify it by calling it self-care, LOL. Don't worry, I am not running up CC debt.
I have purchased a really cute plaid jacket, an order of cute notebooks from Archer and Olive, and a giant piece of chocolate cake to go when I had lunch with a friend yesterday.
My DD does the same thing and is dealing with some of the same family stress. She bought herself a wine advent calendar.
What do you buy, do, or eat when under stress?

I am also a fan of online retail therapy, but I'm really trying to curb that impulse as having too much stuff in our house - including my clothes and shoes - is also stressing me out.
A small new packet of flavored tea or an audiobook will sometimes do the trick, without adding to the clutter.

I need quiet when I am stressed. I don't enjoy TV or a movie or even music.
I like to get outside and walk alone or with the dogs. Outside noises like birds, traffic, kids playing doesn't bother me. I love when the sun feels warm on my skin. It's like a hug.
I like to bake or cook too. The chopping and reading, and doing takes my mind off of the stress.
I do love to fix comfort food when stressed - biscuits and gravy with bacon or a soup.
I also watch cute TT videos of shih tzus. That calms me too. As well as snuggling my own dogs. Toby knows when Mom needs snuggles and he jumps right onto me and gives me hugs.
I do stress clean but hey it has its benefits lol
I actually don't shop. Stress is usually around money so I don't want to spend any.

What did you get from Archer & Olive? Bullet or regular journaling? To answer your question, yes, I stress shop. Or, sick shop. The Fibromyalgia is killing me. I was down 4 of 7 days last week. Elrohir Leather is the main recipient of my shopping, at present. Also bought a couple of Hobonichi planners. To be fair, the 2nd was cheap since it is last year’s edition. I’m more interested in comparing papers. YT has numerous people unboxing from the 2025 release of product. And fountain pens. Bought DH one for Christmas. Bought myself one due to a sweet discount from the Shop app. It’s a whole world I should have never peaked into. Fountain pens require ink. LOL! I have successfully ignored the Washi tape. Though, I will probably need some for the 2025 bullet journals. Mine is a hybrid of sorts. Use mostly A&O. Have one from Notebook Therapy that is in the 2025 line up.

I am actually a "middle of the night/early morning" online shopper ... I have chronic insomnia and terrible sleep habits so to pass the time when I'm up in the night I will often check out Amazon and my fav clothing websites ... Some days I have great willpower and I don't buy a thing and other days I have packages coming to the door that I have no idea what they are until I open them!

I don’t think I shop when I’m stressed, but I do think I shop out of boredom sometimes. when I’m stressed I do some form of self care…usually exercise but sometimes I just drink wine haha.

I do a lot of stress shopping...thrift stores and tag sales included. I just did a large purge of things recently. I hope I don't refill the areas with more stuff....

I am more of boredom shopper. For stress, I tend to clean and move things around the house, noisily. alsomsknit we need to talk Hobonichi and fountain pens one day. 😂

I stress shop. I don't necessarily buy, but I like to browse and just get out of my normal setting.

I am not a "stress shopper".
I am a "stress eater". When I am feeling stressed, I want comfort food >> ice cream, potato chips, elbow macaroni with butter only, chocolate, bacon.

I don't know if I'm lucky or not but when I'm really worried about something I eat less. I don't really shop unless I really want or need something. Sales are bigger motivators than stress. I do a lot of journaling when I'm stressed and I look for comfort TV shows to watch.

Yes. While going through house renovations, I will look for something we may, or may not, need, and scroll for hours looking for the perfect thing.

Yes. I’ve found adding things to my Amazon wish list scratches the same itch.

Being relaxed and happy definitely makes me eat more!!

I’m more of a stress window shopper, LOL. I like to put things on my Amazon wish list that will never get bought. Stress eating though? I’ve got that one down. If it’s sugary or salty (or both!) I’m all in. We’ve had a friend staying with us recuperating after a heart attack so I haven’t wanted to snack a lot in front of her (she’s also recently diagnosed type 2 diabetes). Having her here isn’t so much stressful, more like our usual household dynamics have somewhat changed having another person in the house. I just dropped her off for a hour and a half of therapy, came home and ate 1/3 of a bag of Corn Nuts chased with a Little Debbie oatmeal cream pie, LOL.

A couple nights ago I ordered some Happy Tappers from Hallmark. It's not really my style per se but, I thought my new grandson would get a kick out of them. Usually my middle of the night shopping is on Amazon.

Yes, I am a stress (and boredom) shopper and eater. Big time. That is why I have struggled with my weight over the last 20 years, I managed to get quite heavy. Got it off, but maintaining during stressful times is a challenge! My online shopping is a bit (ok, maybe a bit over a bit) over the top right now. I love fall clothing (all the autumn colors are *mine* and who doesn’t love warm, snuggly clothes) and my purchases the last 6 weeks are evidence of that. Maybe we need to start a little support group over here for the stress shoppers and eaters?!?

I am more likely to stress clean + organize. I shop a lot when I am bored though. Can't sleep and get bored? Shop. Nothing to do today? Shop.

During covid one night of insomnia I almost bought a $3000 laser machine I only held off because I wasn’t sure it would work with my semi old computer. In the light of day I was glad I hadn’t pulled the trigger because I was renting a condo at the time and I doubt I could have made the appropriate venting.

Yes. I’ve found adding things to my Amazon wish list scratches the same itch. I do this too! And then I put them on my library hold list, and then I forget to pick up my holds. I did stress-buy a soup cookbook today though. I was in a really awful meeting and soup sounded comforting.

Oh yes. I buy an annual delivery pass for Marks & Spencer, which gives me free next-day delivery. There have been many times things have unexpectedly turned up on the doorstep after a sleep-deprived 4am purchase. Thankfully I stay within my budget, so it’s not a huge issue. But in the last few weeks I have discovered Vinted, and it’s definitely very tempting. Just this evening I bought a new M&S utility jacket for £5! 😁
