My home was ravaged by one of the worst national disasters in recorded history and he is making it about him. I watched a TikTok by sportswriter Jeff Pearlman last night explaining why he can't stand Donald Trump and it all boils down to 9/11 and the lies he told to insert himself into the narrative - said he sent 100s of his men to help with recovery, that he himself was at ground zero, gave money, and on and on. Not one thing is true and can be proven as false. Here's a link to the video if anyone is interested in seeing it. It's 8 minutes, but a very good watch - he goes into some other things Trump has done that shows further proof he's just a dirtbag. Jeff Pearlman - TikTok

I really have a hard time understanding how he could have more votes this time than in 2020. I have a hard time understanding how he can have any votes at all. My theory is that he appeals to the wanna-be bully, or the person who thinks he/she has little power. He is seen as their chance to push someone around.

He is seen as their chance to push someone around. I think that is true for his main base. But I also think that people think the economy was better under Trump and therefore it must be Biden’s fault that prices are higher. They lack the critical thinking skills to see the bigger picture as to why prices are higher. Hopefully we don’t all pay for that.

I guess as long as the disaster happens to people in California and NYC, right?

I really have a hard time understanding how he could have more votes this time than in 2020. Mrs a I know the polls are close but I’m hoping that women vote in higher numbers and vote Blue. I know he has lost many but then he has gained others … I keep seeing that black men are voting for TFG but I just can’t understand that. He just wants them to fill the jobs left by undocumented that are deported. That and he has talked so much about Haitians he will deport even though here legally snd all his comments about immigrants from the Congo. I just hope we don’t have to find out how bad he wants it to be with his bloody deportations, following through on television only being able to report what he wants, his revenge snd retaliation against those he thinks have harmed him. Pulling out of Ukraine and NATO and the fallout from that. So much scary stuff.

I really have a hard time understanding how he could have more votes this time than in 2020. Exactly. I really hope that Harris gets more votes than Biden did last time. There needs to be at least a 10 million vote spread this time. Not that it will matter is he gets the electoral votes.

I hearda commercial today on the OG Hip Hop station that was pretty gross, saying Kamala paid for sex change operations for prisoners and that she supports men competing in sports "against our daughters", that she's for They/Them but Trump is for Us. (It was voiced by actors with Black accents.) That Kamala doesn't get "our culture" (Trump does?) but it's definitely playing to stereotypes that Black people are more homophobic than white people. I really despise the man and anyone who votes for him is just supporting hate. I had a near falling-out with a coworker who said she doesn't care about the border or any other thing, the only thing she cares about is her bank account. I guess she thinks Trump cares about her bank account--as if. I made a point to say that I care about a LOT more things than just my own money, including the rights of our daughters and granddaughters and that's of course just for starters. We had to drop the conversation altogether because we have to work together. But the selfishness of some people really gets to me. It's infuriating.

I try really hard not to dwell on it. Some days I am optimistic. Some days I am terrified. My youngest son's b-day is on Election Day. I keep thinking he can't have the worst birthday ever. My birthday is November 8. Election Day fell on my birthday in 2016. Worst birthday ever. The 2020 election was called on Nov 7, but I couldn't fully celebrate because I was anxious about what Trump might do. I never expected Jan 6, but Trump was making all kinds of noise about election fraud in November and the spineless Republicans just enabled him. Anyway, I think I'm due for a post-election celebration on my birthday.

I honestly believe that he is not cognitively able to be President. And that means that people like Vance(a smarmy SOB if there ever was one) and Steven Miller would be running the show. It’s terrifying. Anyone who has had those difficult conversations with their parents can recognize the signs.

Last night I told someone that I was really looking forward to ending my abusive relationship with Donald Trump soon. I think we’re going to know that Kamala Harris will be our next president before we go to bed on November 5th. I think it’s our job to be critical if/when the Republicans refuse to accept election results. I have a much needed hair appointment scheduled for Election Day. I’m going to make Tim Walz’s tater tot hot dish for dinner in my MN shaped baking dish. OMG that is my plan too! Except I dont have a MN shaped dish, LOL I might rethink this plan. Tonight I made Runzas for the first time and I might want to do it again. I wanted to try them after seeing Walz make a stop at a shop in Omaha. It was a major hit in our house. I added mushrooms and Swiss cheese because that is what the governor did. Kind of impressed at how something so basic was so good.

Bill Gates just dropped $50 million to support Harris!!! After decades of staying out of politics, billionaire Microsoft co-founder and global philanthropist Bill Gates is reportedly getting involved in the 2024 election — with a $50 million contribution to the effort to elect Vice President Kamala Harris. According to The New York Times, Gates, who is typically withdrawn and secretive about his politics and has not made a public endorsement in the election, meant for the contribution to be kept out of the public eye, contributing the funds to a so-called "dark money" political nonprofit, Future Forward USA Action. www.rawstory.com/bill-gates-2669458814/

Some where I just read that TFG signed the papers in 2019 or so.... Let me try to find it... Trump administration ‘signed off’ on sex-change surgeries for transgender prisonersBenedict Smith Thu, October 17, 2024 at 11:04 AM EDT 2 min read The Trump administration signed off on sex-change surgeries for transgender prisoners, according to reports. Officials in the justice department gave the green light to procedures that also included hormone therapy and hair removal in 2018 while Donald Trump was in the White House, the New York Times reports. The Republican presidential candidate has repeatedly attacked Kamala Harris for having previously supported sex changes for transgender inmates. Prison bureau officials wrote in a budget memo to Congress in February 2018 that the government was obligated to pay for sex-change procedures if deemed medically necessary. “Transgender offenders may require individual counselling and emotional support,” they said. “Medical care may include pharmaceutical interventions (e.g., cross-gender hormone therapy), hair removal and surgery (if individualised assessment indicates surgical intervention is applicable).” However, a long-running legal battle delayed the first such operation until 2022, after Trump had left office. Ms Harris accused Trump of hypocrisy when questioned on her former support for the policy in a Fox News interview on Wednesday evening. “I will follow the law and it’s a law that Donald Trump actually followed,” she said. “Under Donald Trump’s administration these surgeries were available on a medical necessity basis to people in the federal prison system.” She said a Trump campaign advert attacking her for supporting the procedures was “throwing stones when you’re living in a glass house”, adding: “You’ve got to take [responsibility] for what happened in your administration.” The Trump campaign hit back following the interview, accusing the vice president of “lying” and noting that the first sex-change surgery of a federal inmate occurred in 2022 under Ms Harris. www.telegraph.co.uk/us/politics/2024/10/17/trump-signed-off-trans-prisoner/

I really have a hard time understanding how he could have more votes this time than in 2020. I’m really counting on the fact that more of his supporters died during Covid (especially in the red states) and I’m hoping with every fiber of my being that there’s no way that many people could have been brought into that camp to replace them. Keep in mind too that the official numbers during that time were not including all of the “excess deaths” that didn’t get counted as Covid related. I have been wondering about this as well. I watch a lot of MSNBC and don't hear anyone talk about it. I am also wondering about the youth vote. I have not heard too much since the Taylor Swift endorsement. Has Harris been doing any events specifically for youth, as she has been targeting other demographics.

You’re probably right that more Trump supporters died, but it’s not enough to swing an election. 1.2 million total deaths and you have to extrapolate out Democrats who died and they would have to be in swing states. There’s no way to quantify the “excess deaths” or who they would have supported. Besides, I don’t want to win this election badly enough to wish my fellow citizens dead..

I do too. But, if it makes anyone feel better... Historian Allan Lichtman, who has correctly predicted 9* of the 10 last presidential elections, still has Harris winning. I'm putting my trust in his knowledge and trying to let it calm my nerves. * He predicted Gore as the winner in 2000 and he did get the popular vote, but with the controversy over vote tallies in FL, the Supreme Court decision gave Bush the electoral college victoryWell, if the SCOTUS hadn’t stopped the FL recount he might have been correct. But since their candidate was ahead a few hanging chads or so they stopped FL mid recount and called the results for ‘their’ guy. My DS says this is why the GOP is so convinced that the Dems *could* steal an election, because the GOP has already done it once.

Stressed beyond measure. I doubt we’ll have a confirmed answer by 11/6. And it doesn’t matter anyway. If she wins … by a little, by a lot, it won’t matter which … they will lose their minds and try to start WWIII in this country. I hope I’m wrong about that, but I don’t have great faith. In 2020, I had my Biden/Harris yard signs stolen twice, in a town that votes heavily Democratic. I didn’t even bother putting them out this year. No point in showing the mob where to hit first. I’m not going to poo poo this since you were spot on in 2016. I had soooo much misplaced faith in our supposed checks and balances that turned out to be as useless as the GOP Congress. Dammit Lucy, I want you to be wrong, but I don’t think you are. It’s going to be a rocky ride.

That and the ‘Theo Bros’ who actually want a (white) Christian nationalist dictatorship so they can tell us all how to live & put women & non white men back in the places we used to be. Thats what the mean when they say make America great again. It means make white Christian men the only ones with power again.

Link to CDC I’m just pointing out the fact that statistically there was a higher percentage of those deaths in red areas where more of them were likely Trump voters. These are just cold hard facts. From the American Journal of Public Health: The fact that so many people probably died needlessly is abhorrent. Everything Trump touches dies.

I am so encouraged by the high early voting turnout. Also my red corner of the world is so quiet when it comes to displaying Trump signs, etc. Just 4 years ago that shit was all over and now it's not. I am so proud of people like Liz Cheney who are willing to put themselves out there to do the right thing. Vote BLUE!!!!!

I am also afraid that they are going to declare victory no matter what. I heard 2 conservative jackasses (Clay and Buck, who have a talkshow-I listen in the car) say that Trump is doing great, and the window is closing for Harris to make it up. Is that true? I do not know, but I find it hard to believe. I do suspect that they are setting their true believers up to say that the election was stolen if she wins. I heard some other conservative say that he hears people say that they hate Trump, but can’t explain why. Really? I think that a lot of people on this board could come up with a list.
