I remember him bragging that, once the WTC went down, his building was the tallest. I lived in NY at the time and it was so incredibly gross.  I guess as long as the disaster happens to people in California and NYC, right?

Exactly. I really hope that Harris gets more votes than Biden did last time. There needs to be at least a 10 million vote spread this time. Not that it will matter is he gets the electoral votes.

My birthday is November 8.  Election Day fell on my birthday in 2016.  Worst birthday ever.  The 2020 election was called on Nov 7, but I couldn't fully celebrate because I was anxious about what Trump might do.  I never expected Jan 6, but Trump was making all kinds of noise about election fraud in November and the spineless Republicans just enabled him.  Anyway, I think I'm due for a post-election celebration on my birthday.

I wrestle with that too. I honestly believe that he is not cognitively able to be President. And that means that people like Vance(a smarmy SOB if there ever was one) and Steven Miller would be running the show. It’s terrifying.
Anyone who has had those difficult conversations with their parents can recognize the signs.

Mine is November 9. 2016 was a truly sucky birthday. I’m hoping this year is not a repeat of that!

Bill Gates just dropped $50 million to support Harris!!!


After decades of staying out of politics, billionaire Microsoft co-founder and global philanthropist Bill Gates is reportedly getting involved in the 2024 election — with a $50 million contribution to the effort to elect Vice President Kamala Harris.

According to The New York Times, Gates, who is typically withdrawn and secretive about his politics and has not made a public endorsement in the election, meant for the contribution to be kept out of the public eye, contributing the funds to a so-called "dark money" political nonprofit, Future Forward USA Action.

The Trump administration signed off on sex-change surgeries for transgender prisoners, according to reports.

Officials in the justice department gave the green light to procedures that also included hormone therapy and hair removal in 2018 while Donald Trump was in the White House, the New York Times reports.

The Republican presidential candidate has repeatedly attacked Kamala Harris for having previously supported sex changes for transgender inmates.

Prison bureau officials wrote in a budget memo to Congress in February 2018 that the government was obligated to pay for sex-change procedures if deemed medically necessary.

“Transgender offenders may require individual counselling and emotional support,” they said.

“Medical care may include pharmaceutical interventions (e.g., cross-gender hormone therapy), hair removal and surgery (if individualised assessment indicates surgical intervention is applicable).”

However, a long-running legal battle delayed the first such operation until 2022, after Trump had left office.

Ms Harris accused Trump of hypocrisy when questioned on her former support for the policy in a Fox News interview on Wednesday evening.

“I will follow the law and it’s a law that Donald Trump actually followed,” she said.

“Under Donald Trump’s administration these surgeries were available on a medical necessity basis to people in the federal prison system.”

She said a Trump campaign advert attacking her for supporting the procedures was “throwing stones when you’re living in a glass house”, adding: “You’ve got to take [responsibility] for what happened in your administration.”

The Trump campaign hit back following the interview, accusing the vice president of “lying” and noting that the first sex-change surgery of a federal inmate occurred in 2022 under Ms Harris.

You’re probably right that more Trump supporters died, but it’s not enough to swing an election. 1.2 million total deaths and you have to extrapolate out Democrats who died and they would have to be in swing states. There’s no way to quantify the “excess deaths” or who they would have supported. Besides, I don’t want to win this election badly enough to wish my fellow citizens dead..

I’m not going to poo poo this since you were spot on in 2016. I had soooo much misplaced faith in our supposed checks and balances that turned out to be as useless as the GOP Congress.

I’m not *wishing* them dead, I’m not a ghoul. They’re already dead, some likely so because of their own ignorance and refusal to heed the warnings and guidance that were out there. Link to CDC I’m just pointing out the fact that statistically there was a higher percentage of those deaths in red areas where more of them were likely Trump voters. These are just cold hard facts.

On the advice of my youngest daughter, I am distancing myself from most coverage of the election until election night. It is helping. I also have chosen not to electioneer for the same reasons.

I placed my vote yesterday, so my involvement is done. Now, all I can do is pray.

I keep telling my she needs to do the same. She's already voted and she is just so, so stressed. I understand, I really do, but I worry about her health.
