Or is it just the morons around here? Seriously it feels like bumper cars on the roads. Lots of hit and runs too.

Yes, they drive like insane maniacs here too, especially when the moon is full. 🤪 There are a couple interstate entrance ramps that I will go out of my way to avoid because the people on those roads are CRAZY. They will literally run you right off the road vs. moving over to let you merge in. And don’t even get me started with the people who don’t know how a roundabout, dedicated acceleration lane or J-turn work.

It's AWFUL!
They drive so carelessly and they don't seem to think the laws of the road apply to them.

I just saw a bumper sticker that said ‘I’m a veterinarian, I drive like an animal'. And I thought there’s an awful lot of proctologists on the road.

Where do you live? Because I would love to know where all these bad drivers are. I feel like they are all in CA where I live. We do a lot of travel all over the West, and I never see drivers as bad as the ones in CA. In the space of 4 weeks this summer, I was rear ended and my car totaled by a distracted driver, and my husband was walking in a parking lot and was hit by a distracted driver! 😡.

I am in SoCal, and I feel like drivers are more impatient. Overall, the drivers here aren't bad. We've always driven fast and furious. . But to me, there seems to be more cars now that don't want to wait and zoom around cars that they deem are going to slow for them.

The road out of my subdivision has a traffic light at the intersection. That red light might as well not even be there. The cars ( mostly pickup trucks ha ) have not had to stop for at least 5 miles. Speed limit is 55. They are going much faster and you can not just go out there if you have a green light. I’m used to it and proceed very cautiously. I do worry very much when my family come to visit. And remind them repeatedly about this.

Really the only place I notice bad drivers is when they are trying to get onto the interstate from a ramp. It's like no one has a clue how to properly merge.

It is more rare for me not to see a fender bender going to or from someplace than it is to see one nowadays. There’s a lot of volume, slow moving traffic and drivers who need to pay attention to the road.

I remember growing up, my dad would steer clear of NY drivers but honestly these days it’s all bad. My new to me car has a factory dashcam. I never thought I’d be happy to have one. We also have a handful of kids that like to taunt drivers by doing wheelies into oncoming traffic. So there’s that added nonsense before I even start driving with the bumper cars mentality.

It's a combo of everyone rushing for no reason and people being distracted. I still see drivers very obviously on their phones, and I always see drivers speeding, swerving, tail-gating, all trying to get ahead of everyone they deem "too slow", even if the "slow" people themselves are exceeding the speed limit. And then what happens--you know it--you hit a red light, and there's the jerk right alongside of you again. So they put everyone at risk for absolutely no gain. They started off right next to me, and after all of their nonsense, they're still right next to me.

They're everywhere. Georgia is the bane of DH's existence though. Especially from Kennesaw down through McDonough. We were just there from ~3pm (ish) the Friday before Labor Day and it was the worst we've ever seen. Between construction, the rain, and crazy drivers.. We had a guy in a Tesla drive in the shoulder around traffic. He would swerve into the left shoulder for a bit, then cut the person off in the left lane. We caught up to him a few times and he was still doing it. We almost got sandwiched between a semi and an SUV because people don't know how to merge. We're in a minivan, so it's not like we're invisible.
Between stupidity and cell phones? It's a bad combo on the roads.

I live in Ireland where the rules of the road are more like vague suggestions! The roads are narrow, windy and bumpy and everyone drives too fast, I spend a lot of time terrified when we go anywhere.

We're in the DC area, of course they drive like crazy people!
I always said I'd get a dashcam... well. I got one. After I was in a hit and run.
Even if we never need to use the footage (outside of me taking stills for scrapbooks), maybe it will be helpful for someone else.

HA. I see a bunch of you are in my area. IT IS THE DC AREA!

I wish we could drive like bumper cars. I can't tell you the number of times I've wished I could just drive my car straight tf into someone.

But to me, there seems to be more cars now that don't want to wait and zoom around cars that they deem are going to slow for them. Except I live in centralish AR. My little town is full of just bad drivers and the majority do not have insurance. Lots of hit and runs. My neighbor and I were just talking about it day before yesterday. They were involved in an accident on the way home from family. We have so much construction going on with our highways driving is just a pain. They were sideswiped in one of the construction zones. People do just seem so impatient these days. I admit I am one to move around you on the road but that is if you are going way under the speed limit and to me, that is more dangerous than speeding at times. We are new to round-abouts here. There is one on the road between my DD and my ODS. I feel I have a good handle on them but it's the other drivers who just stop or go so slow you don't know if they are taking the circle or exiting. AND DON'T even get me started on the lack of blinkers!

Can I just say that I live in Central Scotland, and generally the driving standard here is pretty good. Naturally we have some idiots and some boy racers like everywhere else, but the majority of drivers are considerate and pay attention. My DS’s Floridian GF is always amazed at how easy it is to merge, both in town and on the motorway. 😊

Nevermind the tourists! When we visited in May, we were on a coach but goodness I’d love to tour on my own in my own car. With that said, I don’t think I could drive on the opposite side AND deal with the aggressive drivers.

But then we were in more rural areas when I drove and it was always for less than an hour. We would go to a distillery and then I'd drive to somewhere to get a meal and then DH would take the wheel again. I'd say that on the west side of Minneapolis and the burbs, people are pretty good about letting you merge and yield the right of way. Or maybe I'm just used to it after so many years of living in the DC area. When we lived in Las Vegas, the newcomer's briefing that we got on base said that at any given time, 1/3 of drivers were under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol. I believe it and suspect similar stats in some areas I've driven in. People be crazy.

Your rental car has you sitting on the right, which is your first clue that you need to do something different. Then there's a sticker on your windshield telling you to drive on the left. And I also noticed a lot of medians in the roads and arrows on the road before a rotary reminding you to stay to the left. I only drove in touristy areas in Ireland, but we were in some pretty remote areas in Scotland (with a German car, so the steering wheel was on the left that time). But I never acutally drove in a big city.

I had to get my dog to her chemo appt from 0715-0745 the other morning, they give you a half hour window. I got in my car at 0630. Well, I should have known better. ETA when I got in the car was 0730 and from there the minutes kept creeping up... Arrived 0820. There is never NOT an accident on 85/285 or 19/400 or 20. Ever. Fortunately they were very understanding but like, do I have to leave my house at 0545 to avoid this every time? It's maddening. Our 2pm appts are fine but AM, is impossible to predict.

Can verify! We spent about a week and a half driving around Ireland and it was harrowing. DH drove, I certainly didn't. I know why there are Virgin Mary grottos all along the roads--you're going to need them. I made DH stop at the first one I could safely get to (also, that was a laugh, I'm lucky I didn't die crossing the road) so that I could make a proper prayer and offering for us to make it alive. I think it worked, we didn't die.

I'm in Massachusetts and the latest thing the state is spending millions on is putting in roundabouts. Regardless of how many signs are posted on the side where people have to yield, it definitely doesn't help. I've lived next to one for 40 years and it is only getting worse despite all the surrounding towns putting them in. Have to love when I have right away and and going and they honk at me like I should have stopped for them. The one I live near has two lanes coming into the roundabout and more than once the car closest to me will yield, but the one on the other side doesn't. I don't want to think about how many times I've closed my eyes when I realize the other car didn't yield.
