I wanted to buy towels. I looked online at reputable retailers but really didn't want to spend $400 on a new set of towels. I decided to buy some on Amazon. To get everything I needed would be about $150 so I figured it was cheap enough that if they lasted me 5 years, I would be fine with it. They are Turkish cotton and got good reviews.
I ordered 1- 4 pack of hand towels and 3- 4 packs of bath towels to just see what I thought. These are white towels packaged in plastic. You know how Amazon puts everything in a box? Like a tube of mascara in a box 1000 times too large? No box on any of these. 2 of the towel sets came with the plastic ripped and the towels dirty. I returned them.
Fast forward I just decided to try the towels I that I kept and see how they held up. They were fine so I figured I would try again.
Ordered one set of the bath towels - came in plastic, torn dirty. Returned them and they sent a replacement. Showed up in plastic, torn, dirty. Got on chat with them and was transferred no less than 4 times and they kept asking me to explain the problem. I told them to read the chat. I wasn't going to keep playing their games. They all apologize. The first person said they would credit me $150 and I should just go to a store to buy the towels if I didn't want them to show up dirty. I let that person have it. I was finally sent to a supervisor who asked what I wanted. I said "I want 2 packages of the 4 BATH towels sent in a BOX". Back and forth and finally they said to keep the dirty towels (fine, I will donate them to the animal shelter) and they would send me 2 packages (no charge) and put a note to shipping to put them in a box. When they sent the screenshot of the order it said "hand towels". I told them that is NOT what I wanted. More back and forth. Eventually they said they had the right thing and all should be good. I told them, "well, we will see".
Next day, Amazon shows up. I go outside and it is one package of hand towels in torn plastic, no box! WTF? This time I call Amazon and demand to speak to a supervisor. I am tired of being nice. I spend 45 minutes on the phone and the guy is very apologetic (as they always are but are so not helpful). He contacted the logistics supervisor because he said this shouldn't be happening. No shit. He said he would refund all my money on all the towels but in the end he only refunded me about half the money. I decided I can't deal with this anymore. He told me not to order any more because obviously Amazon has some sort of issue with shipping these. I said "Great, now I don't have towels and I'm out money".
How hard is it to put a damn plastic bag in a box? That is all I wanted. What I asked them was why their delivery people were leaving obviously damaged items at my door?
This has been going on for almost a month!

That’s so frustrating! 😤 I would be mad too.
Having said that, I really like the Charisma brand of towels that Costco sells. I buy the oversized bath sheets which I’ve bought in store for under $15 apiece, online and delivered they are $42 for a set of two.

That's unbelievable! Were they delivered by Amazon or UPS, etc? We have a distribution center 2 miles from my house so Amazon actually delivers a lot of my packages. They take a picture of the item on my doorstep. It would be great if they were doing this with your order. On another note, I've had good luck with towels from Home Goods. (I like white towels too.)

That's infuriating.
Most of my shipping complaints are with Target. I love me some Target, but they can't ship worth a darn. And they never get any better. I don't believe they even try. I've returned so many things, gotten so many free replacements, and written/called explaining the issues, and it never changes.
But good grief, at least they give me back my money or eventually get a non-damaged item to me.
To have you be out money and have no undamaged product to show for it is bull$hit. I'd probably call the credit card company and have them do a charge back.

For some items at some point during the check out process I’m given an option to select for an item to ship in its original packaging or to opt for an envelope/box. I would pay attention to that. Doesn’t make your experience any less frustrating. I get they’re trying to streamline but I think fabric items shouldn’t be shipped in thin plastic alone. Even a bubble mailer would be a helpful outer layer.

I get it’s frustrating, but at this point, why don’t you put the towels in a really hot wash, and then just use them? Unless they’ve been rolling about in mud with a group of large dogs, I can’t imagine they will be that dirty. 🤷♀️ (I’m also intrigued why you ordered so many in the first place, if it was just to “try them out”?)

I ordered my grandson a Christmas gift that is model kit he asked for so it is in a box but they shipped it in an envelope so it arrived crushed I had to return it and I requested it come shipped in a box not an envelope so they said they would take care of it. The next arrived crushed in an envelope again so it was returned and again I had a discussion with them and they assured me this time it would come in a box. Nope it too arrived crushed in an envelope. I it returned and got my money back, found the kit on Ebay contacted them before I ordered asking the seller if it would be shipped in a box and they did. Amazon and Inked Brands are both horrible now about sending packages in envelopes that get crushed or bent.

I am so sorry this happened and that you're so frustrated. If you are actually out money, please contact your CC to dispute the charges.

On another note, I've had good luck with towels from Home Goods. (I like white towels too.) I've bought sight unseen from The Company Store and been happy in the past but pretty much buy from towels HomeGoods these days. Amazon is definitely not putting everything in a box these days. Especially if you don't opt for "your" free shipping day when everything ordered is shipped together.

That is definitley frustrating! Nothing as aggravating as talking to someone and thinking a problem is fixed only to have it be exactly the same as it was! I wouldn't give amazon another chance with the towels!
I'm wondering how dirty are the towels when they arrive? Are they so bad that running them through the wash won't fix it? Are they ripped? You're going to wash brand new towels anyway, so I'm curious what condition they're in when they arrive at your house.

That is awful.
Costco is shipping things in the manufacturer's box. They just slapped a label on it. I received a smashed box, but fortunately the contents were ok.

Wonder if when ordering the towels from Amazon if you checked the “this is a gift” option they would put them in a box? May be worth a shot if you like the towels.
