I assume all burritos have rice and beans in them and never order them for that very reason. I'm also not a big fan of wraps or other sandwiches made with a tortilla.

I live in So Cal and I've never had fries in a burrito. Yuck! That has got to be the whitest thing I've ever heard. I think in the culinary world it's called fusion. Okay, a quick little research tells me they are a SAN DIEGO original created in the 80s by Roberto's (but Santana is also claiming the original). We've ordered them at Chronic Tacos throughout Orange County and my kids have confirmed they are easily available at numerous places all the way up to SLO. Ground beef? No. The places near me have a dozen meat and some vegetarian options, but not ground beef. Unless we’re talking Taco Bell. I don’t think we’re talking Taco Bell here. I think it is only fast food taco chains that have ground beef options. I've never seen it at a taco truck/stand/shop or restaurant.

Burritos have rice and beans, that's what MAKES them burritos, and why you need the giant tortilla. If you just want meat, that's a TACO. Very tongue in cheek if you can't tell. But I give my kids a terrible time when I serve tacos and they put beans and rice in them - I have explained and explained that it's WRONG to no avail. They are huge rice and bean fans and don't care. Oh and I laugh a lot at "authentic" Mexican. Umm it's a big ass country, what is authentic to my grandmother isn't necessarily authentic to your grandmother - but I'd like to see the abuela from Mexico that thinks fries belong anywhere near a burrito mine at least thinks you're crazy

I live in the Midwest where most every bar and grill has a very un-authentic "wet burrito" on their menu. Ingredients vary, but usually ground beef, cheese, lettuce, and tomato with a mild (bland) red sauce poured over it. Not a fan. Ground beef? No. The places near me have a dozen meat and some vegetarian options, but not ground beef. Unless we’re talking Taco Bell. I don’t think we’re talking Taco Bell here. It's not just a fast food thing here. Even sit-down Mexican restaurants (as opposed to the bars that sell the above-mentioned wet burritos) offer ground beef as a taco, enchilada, or burrito filling.

For those NOT from southern California, please note the California Burrito has fries instead of rice. It is a big disappointment from locals when they see California burritos on the menu in other parts of the country and discover there are no fries stuffed inside. I live in So Cal and I've never had fries in a burrito. Yuck! That has got to be the whitest thing I've ever heard. IDK, potatoes/papas are a common filling in some Mexican cuisine. Not sure how often they're deep fried vs. other cooking methods. My favorite breakfast tacos are potato and egg, but the potatoes are usually parboiled and then browned on the griddle. Peruvian food often contains deep fried potatoes as well - look up lomo saltado.

I am just not a big rice fan so if burritos include rice I ask them to leave it out. The thing I want in there with the meat is sour cream. Other things sure, but sour cream .

As long as a burrito doesn’t have green pepper or peas, I’m happy with anything they put in them. They’re like soft, warm little puppies in your hand.

I just like burritos! But really I prefer less meat and more of the rice, beans, cheese etc.

every burrito place here you choose meat you want and then, like chipotle, they go by all the toppings, one by one, and ask "rice? beans?" - but never fries?! lol!
unless it's a sit-down restaurant, then you get what you get.

Why on earth would you order a burrito and not want rice and beans? That's a soft taco. And really I guess if you guys feel lackluster about the rice and beans, I'm guessing they aren't doing it right. I'm just going to say that I have never in my life eaten a burrito better than the BBQ (spicy) bean burrito with grilled peach salsa and Mexican rice from this Bad Manners Cookbook. Nothing I could get vegan in any restaurant compares to these burritos. Pics included

My usual burrito order is Carne Asada. All the places I go to, when I order it, I know I am getting a burrito stuffed with meat (sometimes too much meat), some pico de gallo, and maybe some guacamole. That is it. Nothing else. The other day we tried a new place in town. My carne asada burrito came with beans, rice and cheese inside. And, not too much meat. I ate it, but I was disappointed. I feel like they were trying to make their burritos look big by adding fillers. So, what kind of burritos do you like? Do you always have beans in yours? What I wouldn’t give for some lovely Carne Asada. When my family lived in AZ, we had a friend who would occasionally get us some Carne Asada from South Cal. It was in zip lock bags and we would devour it. We have never found any similar here in DFW. Every time anyone of us see it on a menu here, we order. Nope. Some are ok. But we just can’t match any to the stuff he got in South Cal. This was in the late 80s.

Most mom and pop places here have a set menu. You tell them what kind of burrito you want … carne asada, chicken, chorizo, etc. And that is all. They don’t go down a list of items that you add. You can ask they add something (for an extra cost) or leave out something, but the items in the burrito are already set. My friend orders a chicken burrito and has them add rice inside (which is an extra cost). Now, our favorite place does have a beef burrito, beside carne asada. That comes with beans and the meat is ground beef. I don’t order that. 😁

One of my cousins from Hawaii used to buy a burrito, which had to be from Alberto’s, to take home with him. He used to come here couple times a year for work.

I don't eat meat, but I love a good breakfast burrito. Scrambled eggs, some kind of potato, cheese, salsa. Dunk it in queso.
I do love burritos stuffed with rice and beans.

I'm not really a burrito person- I'm much more likely to get tacos or enchiladas. There is an authentic street taco place near me that is very good.
When I think of burritos my mind immediately goes to Chipotle and those things are kind of a monstrosity. Every once in awhile I get a craving for one but once I've had it, I'm good for a couple of months.
There is a place I go to in my university's town that cooks their burritos in the oven until the edges are crisp. Their house burrito has a bit of cream cheese and black olives in it, along with meat and vegetables. I love those things- they had them when I went to college 40 years ago and they still make them. Every time I go that town I have to get it.
