What would you do in NYC in November?
We are there for a weekend on our way to Hong Kong and I haven't really planned much for this city, I do want to walk Central Park. So give me your ideas of what you would like to do or see.

We just went this past spring and LOVED it. We stayed near Times Square. Lots of walking to all the nearby places. If you go to Central Park.. I totally recommend the Soup Nazi (from Seinfeld) place. It's near Central Park. The soup was SOOOO good, I dream of going back. It's really called The Original Soupman. We shared a lobster bisque soup and a lobster roll sandwich. Totally could have ate all of it by myself. lol. But it is a little pricey. (You will need to find a place to eat, there is no dining.. just a counter)
We walked around Rockerfeller Center (maybe the xmas tree will be up?), went into the NBC shops and FAO Swartz. All the 9/11 stuff is pretty far so you have to take taxi/sub/uber and pretty much an all day thing. We did a horse ride through Central Park.. that place is HUGE. It was a great way to see a lot of it.
It was so overwhelming but so fun and DH is not a city guy, he is now in love with it and said he would move there to experience everything .. lol...
Oh we took the Staten Ferry (free) to see the Statue of Liberty.
I could list a million things.. there is just so much... Oh Juniors was really good to. If you like cheesecake, it was DELISH.

I like museums so I would go to the Met. or see a show. the statue of liberty or ellis island. bring something warm.. or buy a sweatshirt at airport--it can be cold at that time of year, esp if you are packing for hong kong.

For a weekend I would spend one day walking around Central Park and going to the met.
Maybe another day walking around the west village and trying a fun restaurant. Maybe catching a show in the evening. Love NY.

If I only had a weekend, in addition to Central Park, I’d do a hop-on bus tour to get an overview of NYC attractions. I’d search threads to get peabay’s suggestions for restaurants that aren’t touristy. If you’re a museum person, I’d do a museum. My fave is the Museum of Modern Art. Most people are going to want to see a show—if you’re dead set on something, buy tix early. November and December are crazy busy in NYC. I love to just pick a neighborhood and walk around—East/West Village, whatever. Or you can look at Time Out New York online to see local events. Times Square is ick and touristy, so once you’ve seen the billboards lit at night, go elsewhere.

I can't imagine going to NYC and not seeing a show. But, then I am a huge theatre lover.
I enjoyed taking the ferry to the Statue of Liberty. You get amazing skyline views from the water.
The 911 Memorial is very good, too.

Times Square is ick and touristy, so once you’ve seen the billboards lit at night, go elsewhere. BUT if you never been I say it is a MUST (well in my opinion). I loved it. Even DH was enthralled and not a city boy. It is touristy and all that, but it was FUN. Just to sit on the stairs and watch all the crazy things and people. I am so glad I got to see it in person.

I’d go to the Rockette’s show, but only because DD’s friend is a newly minted Rockette. MOMA, the Met, a concert, a show… so many fun choices. Definitely walk around Central Park. NYC is a great place to spend a weekend. Have fun!!!

Theater. And then more theater. Did I say theater? So much on right now!
Otherwise, go to the Met and Guggenheim (because they are a few blocks apart) and then walk across central park to the NY history museum. I love the MoMA, and if you are going to rockefeller center (which I don’t personally enjoy), it’s right there. Also walk around the west village, it’s pretty.

I just got back from four days in NYC. You’ve received many great suggestions already, but I’ll add a few more ideas.
We did a tour of Radio City Music Hall and loved it. We happened to have our tour while the Rockettes were rehearsing so we got to watch them for a few minutes, which was really cool.
One random suggestion if you sew, and especially if you were a Project Runway fan, is a visit to the Mood fabric store. Three floors full of fabric!
I’ve been to the city many times, but I still like spending some time in Times Square. There is such a unique energy there that you can’t get anywhere else.
We finally visited the WTC Memorial & Museum. Unfortunately we didn’t have time for a tour that day so we just walked through. We both agreed that a tour would have been much better and will try to fit that in next time.
Be sure to report back and tell us about your visit!

I'm also a big no of Times Square. It's dirty and crowded. We saw it from a double decker bus which suited me just fine. Probably too cold for that bus in November.
My daughter and I spent 36 hours there in July. Our day was Ess-A-Bagels and coffee, walked to central park. Ate our bagels, walked the park a bit. Pulitzer fountain, St. Patrick's Cathedral, Rockerfeller (went to the top, I'd do at least one tall building top), New York Public Library (wish we had time to tour, it's incredible), Bryant Park, Grand Central Station, Strand Bookstore, Union Square, World Trade Center, Brooklyn Bridge Park. Make the subway your friend, it's cheap and so easy to get around quickly. In the evening we had dinner and then hopped on the double decker bus which took us past other sights, Empire State, Washington Square Park and arch, Wall Street, China Town, across Brooklyn Bridge (stunning at night), back up through the United Nations. Highly recommend if your short on time.
We are not big theater goers and had no interest in Liberty. Those were easy passes.

A food tour might be a fun way to see specific neighborhoods. I went 3 years ago but used to live in DC so I would take the train up a lot. One of my must-do's in the city is Sleep No More which is ending its run in December.

A weekend is short - we hit the last minute shows - we also did the natural history museum - but we're hard core nerds.

you have excellent suggestions - just want to recommend a great restaurant with really good price points: Jacob's Pickles. It's on the upper west side and the food is terrific. So, if you're around the Museum of Natural History or other UWS attractions (e.g. Strawberry Fields), go there, or their sister restaurant Maison Pickle. Really, really good.
Don't leave NYC without good deli food - Barney Greengrass, Katz's, Russ and Daughters - they are the kinds of places you can only visit in NYC. One hint for Katz's - which can get really crowded with tourists (and locals) - sit in the waited tables section. It's never as crowded as the regular "find your own table" section.
Have fun!

Where did you stay? DD is applying for a 1 week shadowship for NY or Chicago in January. The office in NY is located at the World Trade Center. I may or may not go with her. A little nervous about her going alone. Wanting to find a place in an area that is safe and close to the office.

It was very nice especially seeing all the music stuff. But since you are near the WTC you are better off there.

I love the Bryant park shops. I would also do the MET. My friends and I do food tours in NYC. We just select a subject like pizza or bagels and go to the top shops. It’s a great way to see the city. Last year I walked NYC from top to bottom. It was fun but exhausting.
