I have never gone to a rally for a politician. I just don't want to be standing around for hours hearing someone say something I obviously believe (or else I would not be there).
The closest I have come to such was back in the days when women were trying to get the ERA passed. Texas had done so (can you believe we used to be progressive?) and Oklahoma was getting ready to vote. I went for a march in OKC. Silly me, I had no idea we would have to listen to speeches afterwards. My transportation was a bus from Dallas (outside agitators, I guess we were) so I had to stay for the speech.
A few years ago, I went to a neighboring town to march for women (it was after DT was elected). It also had a lot of speeches, but I knew that would happen.
So I have participated in rallies for women's rights, but not for an individual.

As a child I did quite often. My dad was the mayor in our town and my mom was very political. They took me to all those things even though I found it incredibly boring. What pre teen wouldn't?

Yes, I saw Beto when he ran for Gov. of Texas.
Edit: my sister reminded me that I saw Gov Ann Richards when she was running for Governor. That was in the early 90s so I was young.

Only time was when my band played or President Reagan who was doing a rally for Bush. It was at a now closed Air Force Base. Was really cool!
ETA: Nov 1, 1988. But it was at the Orange Show. He landed at Norton but was taken to the Orange Show. That is where we played.

I can’t think of any big ones specifically but I certainly could have back in my younger days.
I did attend a small political event for a local politician this past fall. It was pig roast on a family farm and I went to meet a friend and see a local musician, not for the political event. I had never actually heard of the person and they were not running in my district…the reason I was there was not because of politics but it was a political event.

Kamala is speaking on the Mall tonight, and i would LOVE to go see her but honestly, crowds like that make me very anxious. I just can't deal.

When Obama came to NH in 2008, I went. Michelle and both Bidens were there, too. He was a really inspiring speaker. He talked about his first trip campaigning with his girls to NH. If Obama or Michelle came to NH, I would go again. I would like to see Harris. She was here one day but it was a school day and I didn't find out until the day before.

Yes, I saw Beto when he ran for Gov. of Texas. I was going to say I have never gone to a political rally but I saw Beto twice. Duh.

When Bobby Kennedy was running for President, he was riding a train across the U.S. and stopping and speaking at stations. He stood on the back of the caboose and spoke. I went with my parents. I was very young and have only a vague memory of the event.

No, I have not. I was emailed an offer for Trump tickets to a rally. I did not request them as I am not a masoquist.

Put me in the "saw Beto twice" camp.
And my mom took me to see Phyllis Schlafly speak at an anti-abortion rally when I was a young child. But I was really there to be a prop.

I couldn't make her rally here in Houston regardless, but if I had been available, both the crowd and the necessity of standing on a blacktop to wait for several hours in the 90 degree heat would have made me think twice.

I was recently wondering about the value of these rallies and whether they result in higher votes in an area where they occur. If people are involved in politics enough to attend, it is my assumption that they would already be planning to vote and would most likely vote for that candidate. Do they exist to influence non-attendees that notice the excitement?
In answer to the OP, I haven't attended any.

Jesse Jackson 1988. He came to my high school.
I would LOVE to go to a Harris/Walz rally. VP Harris was in my area yesterday. I work next to the Nat Guard base where she flew into and the route was lined with cops, but she didnt land until after I was home

No. I almost went to one for Bill Clinton. I was in college and worked in the library. The library director was on some committee for it and said he might be able to get me to meet the President but I ended up being sick with a stomach bug that day.
Ever since I have no real desire. Lines, crowds, late evenings. No thank you. I could have gone to Ann Arbor last night but yeah, no. I cheer at home.

Almost, not intentionally. Way back when Schwarzenegger was the Governor, he was at a rally in downtown San Diego for someone. Don't remember who. We were walking towards the mall he was at to get lunch, stopped across the street and listened for a short time, then turned around and went to find somewhere else to eat lunch.

No, but I would have loved to go to one of Harris or Walz's events this year. The energy seemed great and it would have been a great experience. Trump came here in July and I thought about walking around by the venue just to people watch but decided to stay as far away as possible. Wouldn't want anyone to think that I was a Trump supporter.

I went to a Bernie rally in 2016. My DH and I went to college and worked with someone in his family and she was able to get us in. It was a very cool energy and my daughter was 8 and it was really the first time she had any idea about the whole President thing. I remember when I was a kid and Bush Sr was vice-president and came to our state, my dad drove us to see him but I don't think it was a rally. I don't know how safe I would feel about going to one at this point. It is probably no riskier than anything else but it feels trickier now.

I went to a state convention with a friend during the 2008 campaign. Obama and Hillary both gave speeches. You could have heard a pin drop, everyone was listening so carefully. They were both amazing.

Not a rally but when I was 10 or 11, Nixon's motorcade drove through the town next to ours. There were tons of people lining the streets. I went with my brother who was 16 or 17 and we made our way pretty close to the front. Then he put me on his shoulder so that I could see really well. Of course the people behind us weren't pleased...

i did, i saw Harris a couple weeks ago in Grand Rapids MI. i generally kinda feel like you do, but i wanted to go. i needed to be surrounded by a lot of people who were passionate and excited about what i believed in, and be bolstered. and i got it, and was uplifted. it did suck standing in line and in just few different spots for hours on end, but it was worth it. we were lucky to be next to a grandstand, about 40' from her.

No, I really don't see the point in rallies. I've listened to a few of the speeches on YouTube like Michelle Obama's but I have no interest in going in person. I'm much more interested in hearing a candidate in an interview or debate than a canned rally speech. Rah, rah cheerleading is not going to persuade me.

I was going to add on my post when I said I might have back in my younger days…that if I did it was probably a Bernie Sanders event when he was running for Mayor of Burlington or for his House position so way back in the late 80s and 90s. 😆

So I started as a campaign volunteer in high school and did some work for the rally Dukakis held in my hometown! I did volunteer press and advance work through grad school, so, eg, did work for (and attended rallies for) Al Gore and Hillary Clinton (stumping for Bill in a safe state). One of the funniest events I did, though, was one I was just invited to — a Democratic primary candidate event in SC. I got to chat with John Kerry and John Edwards .

I went to a local school board candidate event (we had 9 people running for 3 spots) because I needed to write a check and the person co-signing it was going to be there (I was a PTA treasurer.) All the candidates (well the 8 who showed up) gave short introductions and speeches. I don't know if that counts... there were maybe 100 people there.
I also went to a book signing of a news person on Fox News who has since drank the Trump Kool-Aid... back in 2002 it wasn't a big deal, now I would rather dunk myself in nuclear waste.
