The reports and pictures are staggering. A year's worth of rain in eight hours. It's going to take some time to repair all the damage. The photos of all the cars piled up blocking a street is just so unsettling. www.bbc.co.uk/news/live/ckmgmdxg254t

It is just staggering, seeing those photos of the damage. And nearly 100 people dead and more missing, so I fear the death toll will rise as the waters recede and clean up starts.
I am a bit worried, as DH is flying to Barcelona for a conference on Sunday, and the article linked says the heavy rainfall is now moving north from Valencia into Catalonia. Though they don't expect the devastation of Valencia there, it could happen, or there could be enough damage and disruption to affect transport.

sueg, unfortunately I think the death toll will climb. So many places are cut off.

Just saw your info about your dh's travel plans, hopefully the weather causes no issues and it all goes smoothly.

It's horrific! I think if you've never seen flash flooding it's hard to imagine how fast it happens. It must be so very scary. I hope your Dh's travel doesn't get disrupted sueg.

Those pictures really show just how powerful flood waters are. So very sad for all in its path.

gar, wellway - I guess if it gets too bad, they will have to cancel the conference. My biggest worry every time he travels is that he gets to his destination, but then can't get back here. Though he has made it home by some quite inventive routes over the years. He even drove to Gothenburg from Munich during the great Volcano Ash Cloud of 2010!

Awful. I love that part of Spain so much.
So now two places we’ve looked at for retirement (western North Carolina and southern Spain) have had massive flooding similar to what we’d like to avoid by leaving Houston. Yay climate change! 🫤

We experienced this in 2013. It's really unfathomable - we were lucky, but so many friends were just devastated. You think water - how bad can it be - oh it be really really bad!
