What's the latest that you think it's ok for Trick or

9. It's 7:40 here and we've had maybe six doorbell rings since 6:00.

If I didn’t want to put out candy, I would have turned out my outdoor light and not answered the door.

I think 9/930 would be fine by me. But if I wasn't okay with that, I would turn off my lights - which I feel is a universal sign of 'no candy'

I have ZERO issue with teens or even young adults trick or treating -some kids just want to hold onto that childhood fun a little longer and some may have special needs. If they're respectful, I would give them candy. Heaven knows they could be doing much worse than trick or treating...I remember Cabbage Night when I was in high school and teens would go out and egg and TP and shaving cream houses/cars and play all manner of tricks and pranks.

That said, even ONE trick or treater would have been nice tonight - we sat outside from 630-730 getting eaten alive by mosquitoes and then came inside but left the lights on and the Halloween display up (with lights). I think we turned everything off around 10 or so.

Things around here typically peter out about 8:00 pm so that’s when we turn off the lights outside. Tonight DD was with friends in another neighborhood so I left to pick her up around 8:30 and was surprised that so many of my neighbors still had their lights on. If she would have been here, she would have cleaned up because at the end of the night people in our neighborhood tend to just dump out their bowls with whoever shows up last. And here, we give out the GOOD candy.

I started out the night with 35 full size Hershey bars and only gave out 18, plus the ten I sent with DD to her party.

I have no issue with giving to big kids, really little kids, kids with no costumes, whatever kids. As long as they are respectful and not greedy, they get candy from me. There are so many other destructive things that kids could be out doing on Halloween so if they’re choosing trick or treating, I can live with that.

There are set hours here for trick or treating. 6-8pm. We didn't get any trick or treaters.

I didn't know everyone didn't have set hours. Every city around here it is 6-8 pm.

At 9pm, we turn the outside light off. I don’t expect anyone after that

I would say 9:00 is the latest.  I am ready to finish up by then.  Although I wasn't open this year (or last) since I have been going with my grandbaby and no one else is home.  

I used to get mad at older teens going out, but it doesn't bother me now as long as they are being nice.  9:20 is late and I probably wouldn't have even opened the door at that point.

Yesterday, I spent the day at Univ of MD, where my DD attends college. We had a Terps Hugs & High Fives event. Last year the kids experienced several deaths by suicides in a short amount of time, plus Israel/Palestine (and there is a large Jewish community at UMD), so they were STRESSED. The group goes and offers snacks, and high fives, hugs, fist bumps, or just there to offer support/words of encouragement. There were kids last year who stayed away bc they werent sure what the group was about so we made sure to get the word out. Some of us wore custumes this year.

Anyway, one young international student was happily waiting in line and asked us "is that what Americans do on Halloween, pass out hugs?" she was SO excited and was about to call her mom to tell her when a volunteer let her know that this event offers that, usually its just candy, LOL. she was so cute.

I would say 9ish, and not having costumes doesn't bother me. 9:20pm would have had me shaking my head, but I wouldn't be upset about it.

We turned off our outside light at around 9:30pm. There were still some kids out, but we figured it was late enough. I considered putting the bowl of leftover "candy" (mostly fruit snacks and rice krispy treats by then) out but didn't bother.

We did one box of the full size candy bars (plus a Cosco size box of fruit snacks and rice krispy treats and a small amount of the "fun sized" candy). I held off handing them out for awhile until around 6:30pm so the older kids would get some. We were down to one bar and I put it aside because I didn't want any kids getting upset because they missed it. Then I was happy to pull it out for one young girl. She was all alone, probably about 12 or so but she was at least 5'10" and I could see in her face that she'd gotten flack for being "too old". So it made me feel good that she got the last full size.

We always have the late teens who know you'll empty the bowl for them. I guess because we don't have a ton of trick or treaters - I'm just thrilled when someone shows up.

I haven't participated with ToTing for a few years, but 9 used to be my lights out time and very, very few stragglers came by after 8:30.

Our household is pretty early to bed these days, so no one is answering the door after 9.
