I’ve seen several articles about how many uncrstables the NFL goes thru - 80,000 a year! Made me think of pea lore and the anti uncrustable peas claiming real mothers wouldn’t feed them to their families. I’m not anti uncrustable but I didn’t usually buy them because I thought they were a tad over priced. In addition to my kids having a specific peanut butter they preferred. But some NFL teams go thru 500 uncrustables a week! Here’s one reel about it: www.instagram.com/reel/DBqyQ_Wxtu8/?igsh=anR0MG1uMGtnMHYyDo we still have anti uncrustable peas or was that mostly at the old board.

Something changed with them about 12-18 months ago and now no one in my family can eat them. It's a bummer because they are so yummy and convenient. And they dont have anything different in them compared to the usual ingredients of a pb&j on white bread.

We have them in the house now and again. We usually buy them for road trips. They aren't a must have, but in moderation, who cares (IMO)?

I was never anti uncrustables.. my two oldest loved them, my youngest won't touch them. I bought them on occasion. Usually they were a backup when needed. I don't like PB&J so I never eat them. I believe the Denver Broncos were like number 3 HA we are number ONE offenders of the most Uncrustables. hahaha

I wish my son would eat them! I’ve tried. He’s not into them. I think he inherited his dislike of peanut butter from his father.

I just find it humorous that NFL players eat Uncrustables. It seems like something they'd each need 3 boxes of just to feel full. No wonder they go through so many!

I've never actually seen an Uncrustable in real life, LOL! While I ate a ton of pb&j as a kid, my own kids never did. By the time I had school age kids, peanut butter wasn't to be sent into school at the younger grades, and at home my kids have always been the type to pull for a hot lunch. They've never been big sandwich eaters at all unless it was a toasted or grilled sandwich. They just prefer a hot meal for lunch, even during the summer. And as for caring if other people give their kids Uncrustables---the only issue I could possibly see in caring about what other kids eat is if it affects me and my family somehow. So I guess they have a lot of packaging, so that could be a complaint in terms of the general state of the environment. But since I buy prepackaged single serve items myself, it would be a very hypocritical one.

I just spent 4 days in the hospital. The food was horrific at best. Seriously, dry, leather meat loaf. Cold rubbery eggs, etc. At some point I told the nurse I was hungry. She asked if I wanted an uncrustable. I had never had one. I told her yes as I figured it had to be better than what they were serving.
It was! It tasted amazing. So, after that I told them I wanted either an uncrustable or a peanut butter and jelly sandwich.
These ladies were the first pb&j I had in probably 40+ years.

I had no idea that teams (any sports teams really, but especially the NFL) would be serving uncrustables - and in such huge volumes! I always imagined sports teams having a sort of high-end buffet or catered meals or something like that. Not pre-packaged PB&Js! Anyway, we were not really an Uncrustables house when my kids were growing up. We did buy them once in a while, but it was very rare. So we're not anti-uncrustables, just...we had many reasons: * I dislike PB&J for the most part and only eat one like 2x a year, if that. So it was never something I'd crave or have on my radar as a must-buy...and I did/do most of the grocery shopping when the kids were Uncrustable/PBJ/school lunch aged. * No one in our house likes or eats grape jelly/jam. Gotta be strawberry & only strawberry with PB. And if you've ever shopped for Uncrustables you know how hard it is to find the strawberry ones in stores...most stores only carry the [disgusting IMHO] grape. * DD#2 was soooo particular about how her PB&J was made when she was growing up & needing school lunches packed. To her taste, the Uncrustables had proportionally too much PB relative to the amount of jam, especially in the middle...you know in the rare instance that we actually passed through #1 and #2 above to get to the point of buying a box. My solution for the convenience of it was to buy the $$Pampered Chef compressor thingie that cut the crusts off and seals the sides, and I made our own Uncrustables...with the proper proportions of PB to STRAWBERRY jam. LOL I still have that thing but have not made an uncrustable (or a PBJ for that matter) in years! DS also didn't eat much PB and by the time DD#2 was in HS she preferred her PB sandwiches with honey, which seeps out of the middle when you try to make an uncrustable...fun times we had in our house, let me tell you!

I always imagined sports teams having a sort of high-end buffet or catered meals or something like that. Not pre-packaged PB&Js! My daughter was a student intern for a D1 football dietitian. Her job included keeping snacks and drinks stocked. Players definitely eat full meals, but also eat and drink a lot while at the stadium for workouts and practices. Those big boys require a lot of calories during the season.

This was my thought. They look like toddler portions to me. I've never bought them but my kids eat a full sandwich by the time they are 3 or 4 and sometimes a second sandwich.

I had my one and only Uncrustable on a long drive. I stopped for gas and a snack and bought one. It was surprisingly delicious. I read a review not long ago that suggested the Walmart version is better. link

I have never tried one, but I'm not against them. That article made me giggle, picturing these big guys eating them, though. CeeScraps, I'm sorry you were hospitalized. I hope you are feeling much better now! Big hugs sent your way!

I think quick, easy, safe snack. Less waste, pop one in the mouth enjoy! Good shelf life. Easy storage and travel. Minimum packaging. All for happy football players!

I agree about the hospital food. Hamburgers = hockey pucks! It didn't help that it was during Covid. Food was delivered to rooms in brown paper bags, everything in paper or plastic. All warm, no hot or cold anything!! Finally found good stuff. Turkey, lettuce and tomato on white toast, dry. I than put all on one slice, wonderful twice a day!
