You can listen to him explain that among other things he wants to give an 8 year break to the development of new drugs, which could include vaccines and I guess infectious diseases. It’s hard to tell with this guy. BlueDream… ”Dear MAGA, friends & family. RFK Jr. wants to immediately stop the development of new drugs for cancer, Alzheimers & other illnesses for eight years. Hope your family stays healthy. Is this what you signed up for when you voted?” x.com/58bugeye/status/1857480985304277469?s=61&t=j45uMgNk1i8O0YllKF58nwBest Response… ”Stop asking them this shit. We all know this is what they voted for. They knew and they didn’t care because they’d rather burn everything down than let a woman of color lead this country. They would’ve elected Charles Manson if he was on the ballot for the GOP.”

That’s just another reason that I hope will wake people up. It’s absolute bullshit. I have no insider information but I wonder how that will work - researchers and doctors who have devoted their lives to this won’t just shrug and walk away.
What I do know - I work for a medical school and I was a coding analyst in oncology for several years. I told DH - cancer is still a devastating diagnosis but seeing the inside of what research goes on and how these brilliant people devote their lives to helping their patients - i would be less scared and I’d put my my life In their hands because they’re excellent.
RFK will do his bullshit but just from my world view - people who have devoted their lives and trained for this aren’t going to shrug and say oh well.
I sometimes think I’m naively optimistic but I have to cling to that.

If this happens, lot of people will be out of jobs. We have a lot of biotech in San Diego. There are also many pharmaceutical companies here. They live and die on research, grants, and patents.

I wonder if biotech firms will move to other countries? Not sure if it would be possible not that it would help us as we wouldn’t be able to get the drugs here even if approved in other countries. It seems insane to halt all research actually it seems criminal. Will he be able to just say certain drugs can no longer be prescribed?

Quite apart from what others have said about these scientists not going to want to give up their life’s work - and I do feel there is a good chance of a ‘brain drain’ to other countries - I am concerned about him talking about an 8 year break. Is he suggesting the incoming administration intends to try to stay in power beyond the 4 years they have been elected for?
I fear this administration will do damage that will take the US - and the rest of the world - a decade or more to recover from.

Kennedy is right about food safety, but it is stupid to stop working on cancer and infectious disease. We just had a pandemic. We should not stop working on vaccines. Problem is, lots of MAGAs don’t believe in science, as we know. I am very concerned about anti-science, conspiracy-minded people like RFK Jr. being at the helm of HHS. I worry that our talented scientists will go elsewhere and leave us with the dregs who think that we should pray away illness. These people are crazy.

There are so many things that are legal in the US, but not here in Europe. But these same ‘food safety’ advocates also want to make raw milk freely available! I am sure that talented scientists will leave. There are many good research centres across Europe that I am sure will gladly take them. Many of the drug and research companies already have European branches, and there is world class research being done in universities and private companies here. I also find it interesting that RFKJr was talking about ignoring vaccines to focus on ‘chronic illnesses’, but now wants to ignore cancer and dementia. How does that even make sense?

I agree the eight years stands out. Three terms for trump or some plan to install Vance.
As a cancer survivor, I’d like to see research continue.
And I don’t want my doctors to leave the country to continue research.
I think the whole lot of Trump et al is crazy.

Not only all of the above that everyone else has posted, but once a company has started their clinical trials for a new drug they can’t very well stop halfway through. RFK is a complete loon.

I guess the scientists and governmental employees will be taking the jobs that the immigrants leave. That will turn out well, right?

It won't be a matter of just returning to usual after Trump is gone.

Even with Biden doing what he could to rebuild after the last Trump administration (when they didn’t really know how to burn things all the way down), I don’t think we have recovered yet and it’s been four years. Now that they have their game plan for destruction all mapped out, who knows how long it will take to recover from this next round, if ever.

You’d think “developing cancer cures” would have bipartisan support. Guess we can cure it all with a wholefood diet and essentail oils, since, before modern food production methods, no one ever died of cancer.

Well great news they'll all be dead or severely ill from preventable disease. Make that make sense.

Kennedy told NPR that Trump expects him to show “measurable impacts on a diminishment of chronic disease within two years.”
My jokey response is chronic disease will go down when half of us are dead from infectious diseases.
My sincere response is to wonder if they will change parameters of what constitutes a chronic disease.

I read that they will be changing the data or the way it is gathered for crime and education so I’m sure health will be the same.

Major cuts to Medicaid and SNAP. Donald Trump and his allies are floating the idea of major cuts to Medicaid and the food stamp program in order to offset some of the budget deficits created by their desired new round of tax cuts for the rich, reported The Washington Post on Monday. The new tax cuts are a huge priority for Trump and his allies — in particular extending the provisions of a 2017 tax cut bill that are set to expire. The corporate tax cuts in that bill were made permanent, aside from some subsequent tweaks to corporate taxes made under the Biden administration, but the individual income tax cuts are set to run out at the end of next year. *** "However, these sources said the ideas are "preliminary" and Trump's allies are concerned about "the political downsides of such cuts, which would affect programs that provide support for at least 70 million low-income Americans." www.rawstory.com/trump-health-food-cuts/

Related.. Farmers are very upset about their possible losses of migrants.. Farmers are panicking about President-elect Donald Trump's return to the White House in 2025, according to a new report. Trump's promise to enact mass deportations could result in a "massive loss of revenue" for farmers who rely on immigrant labor to stay afloat, Newsweek reported Monday. "The idea of mass deportations is frightening and scary, just on a humane level," dairy farmer Jennifer Tilton Flood reportedly said. "With regards to our community, mass deportations could affect our entire dairy industry throughout the U.S." *** About 950,000, or nearly 45 percent, out of an estimated 2.2 million farm laborers in the U.S. are undocumented immigrants, Newsweek reported. Flood argued businesses and churches should expect a "catastrophic nightmare" to come as U.S. Customs and Border Protection came under Trump's control. "There is a great chance for families to be broken apart," said Flood. "A lot of my team are raising Americans at home, and so it's tough. There is a lot of concern and there's a lot of panic." Restaurant owners say they're afraid of the cost to their businesses. "If these workers are deported, restaurants will close, leading to massive losses in revenue and a significant downturn in the economy," Sam Sanchez, a National Restaurant Association board member, told Newsweek. www.rawstory.com/farmers-trump-immigration/
